Restaurant Closings in the San Francisco Bay Area | Eater SF

"A five‑year‑old Tenderloin spot known for pulled pork, hush puppies, and hefty breakfasts closed on September 25 after extracting itself from a renewed lease with a significant rent increase that kicked in as the pandemic struck; owners said they haven’t ruled out reopening elsewhere post‑pandemic." - Eve Batey

This was my first visit and it didn't disappoint. My family had been there before, and their accolades had now become mine. 😊 The food was spectacular! Our server was professional and attentive. The atmosphere was that of a normal Southern restaurant . The dessert was dynamite and I'm not even a pie girl. The main dishes were cooked to perfection and the sides JUST RIGHT-FRESH! Needless to say, I will be back.

First time visitors and couldn't not have asked for a better experience. Short wait for a table and very much worth any wait. My husband had surf and turf with scallops. Steak cooked to perfection and scallops amazing. I had seafood pasta and omgoodness it was fabulous. The bread and honey butter were fabulous and the fried pickles were amazing as well. The sweet tea was made to perfection for sweet tea lovers. Overall the atmosphere is fun and full of life! Will stop next trip! Don't skip out on trying Rusty's riverfront. Well worth a visit.

Came here on a recommendation from a trusted local. Rusty's is a very good seafood restaurant with great staff and an inviting atmosphere. Parking is easy. The restaurant was very busy but we only had a couple minute wait. The menu is filled with great items but I opted for the specialty - a blackened grouper fillet with a Creole sauce. Terrific combination. My spouse picked the grilled tuna which was perfectly seasoned and prepared. You won't leave here hungry. Side dishes are on the large side. The main dish is too so you may need a takeout container if something hits your fancy - like any of the deserts. The calamari appetizer was a bit on the well-done side and the individual pieces were rather small and mostly breading so we ate only about a third of what was on the plate. Rusty's has an upcharge on some of the side items and a 3% credit card charge that went unnoticed until the bill arrived. All in all, we'll be back to try some more of the menu and will try to keep the bill under $100.

We were told this place is a must try and the selection of food was plentiful. I'm was thinking "Ok....this sounds like a bar food place to eat". Oh was i so wrong! I had shrimp tacos w/ a side loaded potato and my wife had a grilled pineapple chicken sandwich on an onion bun. It was delicious!! And let me tell you, they had pies, cheesecakes, and Mississippi brownies!! You could get slices or buy a whole pie or cake. I decided to get a whole chocolate peanut butter pie (take it home for everyone to try) and my wife got a slice of Mississippi brownie. They were so good and very rich in flavor. We thoroughly enjoy this place. We'll be back for more pies!

I came in around 8:30, was quickly sat. I walked in frustrated because my job was pestering me and all I wanted to do was enjoy a good meal after a rough week. Server came by promptly and was attentive all meal long. After ordering I noticed some specials on the TV screen and decided to try the bang band Brussel Sprouts, I should of asked how they were cooked because otherwise I wouldn't have ordered them if I knew they were fried. They had a strange texture and flavor profile, I was not a fan. However the steal and broiled oysters were absolutely INCREDIBLE! My sides were very good as well.

Google
Food was very good. We had Calamari with Red Sauce appetizer. Main Entre were Seafood Pasta & Crab cakes. Good service & a nice atmosphere.

Google
We ordered the fried green tomatoes and were shocked from the very first bite at how good they were. As true Louisianans, we consider ourselves seasoning connoisseurs, and anytime we leave our home state the bar is set low for food. But when I tell you this is some of the best Southern cuisine we have ever had in our lives, I mean it! The seafood pasta was phenomenal, full of flavor and perfectly cooked. The service and atmosphere matched the food. warm, welcoming, and memorable. 5 stars from us! We’ll be back time and time again.

Google
Fantastic Food & Service After a Day of Antiquing! After a full day of antiquing in Jackson, MS, and the surrounding areas, we stopped for dinner at Rusty's Riverfront Grill around 6 PM on a Tuesday. Even though the restaurant was quite busy, we were greeted warmly at the door and seated immediately—an impressive start to our experience. Our waiter took our full order right away, yet our appetizer of fried green tomatoes arrived in a perfect amount of time before our entrees. For dinner, we had the blackened shrimp with a loaded baked potato and grilled asparagus, as well as the blackened redfish with green beans and cheesy grits. The portions were generous, and every bite was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Even though we were full, we couldn’t resist getting Mississippi Mud Brownie to go! The service was prompt, friendly, and made our visit even better. If you’re in the area, this spot is a must-visit for great food, excellent service, and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Yelp
I was in town visiting my family when my mom asked if I wanted to try Rusty's. Glad I said yes!! I have never had fried green tomatoes as good as these!!!! From what I was told by my awesome server, Jessica, people come from near and far to try them! Upon my arrival, we waited a few minutes before being seated because the place was fairly busy but as soon as we sat, we were waited on and service was pretty fast. I had the angel hair pasta with seafood and my mom had the fried seafood basket (I think that's what it's called). All of the food was so good!! The pasta that I had was very light and the best thing about it were the scallops! Yum!! If you're ever in town, I highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
- Absolutely Outstanding! My wife and I were traveling from Texas to Florida and stopped in Vicksburg for the night. We decided to try Rusty's Riverfront Grill after seeing the great reviews, and wow--what an incredible experience! From the moment we walked in, the place was buzzing. Every table was full, and there were several parties ahead of us. The hostess told us it would be about a 20-25 minute wait, which turned out to be spot-on. We grabbed a couple of beers, relaxed in the waiting area, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Once seated, we were greeted by our server, Jessica, who was absolutely fantastic--friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food. We started with the fried green tomatoes topped with hollandaise, crab meat, and cheese. They were phenomenal--hands down one of the best appetizers we've ever had. As we enjoyed our meal, I couldn't help but notice how incredibly well the staff worked together. The bus staff was lightning fast--tables were cleared within seconds of guests leaving, and reset within minutes. The kitchen crew, which Jessica told us has been together for 10-20 years, clearly knows their craft. Everything is homemade, consistent, and prepared with care. For our entrée, we shared a seafood pasta loaded with shrimp, scallops, and crab meat over angel hair pasta. It was absolutely to die for. From the hostesses to the bus staff to the seasoned kitchen crew, everyone here is operating at the top of their game. The teamwork, efficiency, and quality are unmatched. This was truly five-star service and five-star food without the stuffiness--just genuine hospitality and amazing flavor. If you're anywhere near Vicksburg, do yourself a favor and go to Rusty's. You will not be disappointed. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Rusty's is always consistent. Great food, great service, and a comfortable atmosphere. Easy recommendation every time.

Yelp
Excellent service. Excellent prices. The food was very good. I ordered the NYE menu Tournedos with a wedge and baked potato. All excellent. My husband was tarted with a bowl fo gumbo which was delicious and then had the RedFish special which was also great. The dessert was standard cheesecake fare. The martinis were $8 so that's a plus. Cute little restaurant where locals and visitors can eat together. We will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is always busy, but worth the wait! We love the fried green tomatoes and seafood pasta. The staff is friendly and the food always arrives fast, fresh, and delicious!

Yelp
Ebony is amazing! My mom and I stopped off here during our cross country trip and we asked a local shop owner what we should eat, the first thing they said was "oh you gotta go to Rusty's" this place does not disappoint! The doors opened at 11 AM and at 10:59 3 families plus ourselves were waiting outside the door. The portions were great and the food was fantastic! Shout out to Ebony again she really made us feel welcome to Mississippi :)

Yelp
I came in because I was in the area and getting hangry. I got the pick two platter with shrimp, crab cakes, fries and asparagus and the strawberry cream cheese pie for dessert. Everything was wonderful and reasonably priced. So why four stars total? They charge a convenience fee whether you pay with a cash or card, it just is listed on the bill. Other than that, it was good.
google avatar

John Riley W.

Yelp
Food is fantastic. If you want to eat seafood that feels like you're eating on the coast, this is the place for you. Our service was fantastic with our waiter checking in on us constantly. The experience was fantastic and I'm excited to try more on the menu!

D W.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Rusty's. We even drove out of our way today just to have dinner here tonight. We were not disappointed. Everything was very tasty. We had read about the fried green tomatoes, so that was our new appetizer this evening! It was a great choice!! Delicious!! All three of our entrees were very good. Don't think we had any complaints. Wish we weren't traveling and were able to take our left overs with us! Thanks again for a delicious meal! We will be back!

Yelp
Fried shrimp was good. Cocktail sauce was very warm. Served with smiles all around. Great atmosphere people of all ages having a great time.

Trung N.

Yelp
Friendly service. Good atmosphere. Good people. Nice variety of local beers too. Definitely come back for the fried green tomatoes!
google avatar

Stacy F.

Yelp
Good fried oysters, fresh draft beer. Try the Amber Bach on tap. Try the home- made key lime pie and coconut cream pie. Home- made graham cracker crust on the key lime. Both desserts delicious. Average ahi tuna Caesar salad. Cedar dressing needs a bit of a tangier taste. Ahi ordered rare, but arrived medium. Nice house salad.hot rolls served with honey butter. Friendly service. Priced $$. I would have liked a wonderful Caesar salad for the price. Kitchen staff made sure the wait-staff had quick pick-up.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Service was fast, the eating area was full and everyone seemed to be having a good time. I wish I could give this place a better review but the food that I got was just... really bad. $25 for "broiled oysters", 33.42 after tax tip and credit card convenience fee. When the menu says "fresh gulf oysters" that sounds like they're shucked there. Fresh. These seem like they came out of a can or a pre shucked container. It was just really bad. I also got the Imperial soft shell crab. Those were maybe a 4/10 but not worth the menu price of $31. This really was a waste of a dinner, it's a shame since it seems like the other things here could have been good.

Yelp
This is the third time we have visited here when we were in town. We were not disappointed! Cassie is an excellent server. The wedge salad is so yummy. Getting ready to tackle the Mississippi Mud Brownie now! WOW!!!

Marji H.

Yelp
There was a bit of a wait for our table for 4 but the food was excellent and well worth the wait . Our waitress was very good, and the food came out hot. My favorite was the wedge salad which was delicious .

Terri P.

Yelp
Catfish is generally good but available only for lunch on certain days; menu items are OK. For me, there are two BIG negatives: parking availability is limited and noise level is such that it's difficult to converse with others at your table. Far from being my favorite place. Also, the name implies a view of the river. If you expect one, you'll be disappointed.

Mona K.

Yelp
The service is superb!! The atmosphere and friendly staff not to mention the wonderful food.
google avatar

Heather T.

Yelp
We stopped in for our first night in Vicksburg and this place was packed. We had a modest 30 minute wait which was no biggie and well worth it. The biscuits with honey butter came out first and were so good we devoured them like raccoons. The house salad was also notable as it came with a pickled green bean and okra. Really tasty. The blackened chicken was my pick as it had been too long since I'd had it. So juicy and tender and packed with flavor. Paired with a baked sweet potato and I was happy. The hubs got the blackened redfish and he ate the whole thing too. Our friends went with shrimp tacos and coconut shrimp. The server was fast and friendly and we had an overall lovely experience.

Jeff T.

Yelp
The service was wonderful, the food was excellent, the location was great. Parking along street. A good variety of items to choose from, adult beverages available and provided a military discount for those eligible.
google avatar

Jamekia W.

Yelp
The food is always great when I come here. I honestly have no complaints besides the seating but it's always a lot of people there whenever I go. 10/10 recommend for some good southern cuisine.

Brenda H L.

Yelp
Food is awesome and the service really good. Ambiance for everyone. Love the place and the people that own it and those that work there.
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Negatives first. I ordered the blackened chicken but got the Hawaiian version instead but let it slide because of the noise in there I can understand she might of misunderstood. Second negative was the barely warm loaded baked potato. Other than those two things every thing was very good. Service was fast and the food came out pretty quick.

Yelp
Rusty's was amazing! Everything from the location, staff, food, and service! We visited on a busy Sunday afternoon & were immediately greeted by staff! After a short wait, we were seated & waited on quickly. The wait staff were friendly, made great recommendations, and were accommodating. The food was fresh, hot, & delicious! The servings were large! We ordered desserts to take home! They were also large portions. The cheesecake was sinful!

Cindy M.

Yelp
Hubby and I stopped here on the recommendation of Charles at the civil war museum up the street, and he was spot on. I ordered the redfish, and hubby had the seafood pasta. Both were delicious. My redfish was served with a crayfish sauce that was yummy. His pasta had shrimp, scallops, and crab meat. He said it had a nice, lemony finish. Our waitress was very nice and seated us quickly. Would highly recommend.

Susan M.

Yelp
Friendly, efficient staff. The redfish was delicious and everyone's meal was an abundance of food.

Yelp
Had a wonderful meal there this week. Great service, reasonable prices, clean and friendly place. Nothing too fancy, just pretty simple food of high quality. Excellent salads and seafood dishes. Definitely going back soon. Vicksburg is a great home town.

Yelp
Rusty's was on my list to try while visiting Vicksburg and was recommended by someone recently, so I decided to check it out for dinner one night. I sat at the bar when visiting, and the bartender was very friendly and got my order quickly. During my visit, Rusty's got very busy and all tables and the bar were full. The bartender was great, keeping up with all the drinks and still checking in with everyone sitting at the bar! I ordered the coconut shrimp and had my choice of two sides with it from a few different options. The shrimp was good and I really enjoyed the sauce! If you're visiting Vicksburg and at one of the many museums downtown or at the military park, this is a great location close to everything and right across from the river. Inside, Rusty's is very casual and is a great spot to go with a group or a family. If you're looking for a casual spot with a good amount of seafood, sandwiches, and other options, definitely check this place out!
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
I wanted to like Rusty$: but we'll, I can't. At best they are ordinary. I ordered the fried green tomatoes with hollandaise and crab meat and the tomatoes were hard and chewy in the inside and greasy on the outside. There wasn't enough crab to count and for $15 was overpriced. The pasta salad had a good taste except for the massive amount of pimento in it. Finally, I took a piece of chocolate peanut butter pie to go and I was sorely disappointed. Most of the time it's layered but the peanut butter was the front half and the chocolate was the back half so you didn't get them in one but. Plus there was too much whipped topping. In fact, it should be meringue and not whipped topping. I eventually just scooped the whipped topping off and threw it out, Also, they came around and informed us they were closing and got out checks when I was only about half-finished. Rude.
google avatar

Trinity M.

Yelp
I'm a picky eater, so the pickings are a little rough for me at Rusty's, but I got a shrimp poboy. Super good! The service is good too, very friendly front workers who conversed with us as if they knew us. The only thing I don't really care for is how close the tables are. You feel a little cramped if the restaurant is crowded. But you do get a good view of the Vicksburg street if you're seated in the right place. Cute little place.
google avatar

Connie S.

Yelp
Same as David L.'s review below. I hate to even give this a one star rating. A terrible food experience. The oyster appetizer was a joke. They were definitely not fresh or fresh shucked, and were chewy, plus most were the size of a dime. We also ordered the two Jumbo soft shelled crabs, no crab meat, with two sides. Those were not "Jumbo". More like small. Plus the claws had more meat on them and there were no meat in the crab itself. To top that off, the waitress delivered us the "Jumbo" soft shelled crabs crab with the lump crab meat, which we didn't order, and were over salted, then refused to charge us for what we actually ordered, because she claimed we ate the, not so called lump crab meat. I felt that the little crab meat they had on top made up for the lack of crab meat in the tiny, so called "Jumbo" soft shelled crabs crab crabs. And one last thing, the side cream spinach we couldn't eat and just one bite tasted like there was soap in it. I guess I'm at fault ordering seafood during Lent from a restaurant that isn't close to a coast line. If anyone reads this, and insists on going there, stay away from the seafood.
google avatar

O'Nika G.

Yelp
The food was delicious. I ordered the seafood pasta and my husband ordered the three way which comes with 3 entrees and 2 sides. It's a little loud in the restaurant but other than that it's a nice place. The wait staff and chefs are amazing. Definitely recommend it. It's worth it.
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
My family and I were on vacation and my husband wanted to eat at a restaurant on the river with a view and the pictures seem to suggest that it is a riverfront restaurant with a view. There is a huge ship permanently in front of the restaurant and no view of the river. That was disappointing. Our waitress was very polite and everything in our large parties order was correct. The fried green tomatoes with hollandaise sauce were awesome and they had a drink made with their own pineapple vodka that was also really good! Overall a nice restaurant, I was just super disappointed that it wasn't on the river.
google avatar

Lyle L.

Yelp
We dined at Rusty's in 2021 while passing through. What a Treasure! I am not necessarily a fan of fried green tomatoes but their version is worth a trip from Houston. Great bar too!
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
Had fried green beans, Red fish. Loved the complimentary rolls. The red fish and sauce blew my mind. And the green beans were on point! Will go back every chance I get.
google avatar

Celeste M.

Yelp
This spot deserves more than 5 stars! The best cheesy grits ever, they were seriously my fave out of everything. But the blackened shrimp was finger licking good as well! From drinks to appetizer to entree, I really enjoyed the taste, sauces, freshness in every bite. I tried the two way combo which allows you to pick, of course 2 from the following irresistible options of shrimp, bay scallops, oysters, crab cakes, or grouper all broiled or fried. Menu states one side but the server told me to pick 2 sides as well so I'm one happy gal. And let me just say, so much food! I tried to finish everything but unfortunately I couldn't. That was a sad moment. Portions are big enough to be shared and that way you can have room for dessert too!
google avatar

Chris B.

Yelp
Rusty's never disappoints. Never has and I have faith that it never will. The bread is always soft and fresh, the gator bites are some of the best, all of the deserts are superb, the fried green tomatoes with the sauce are delicious, all of the seafood is great rather it's fried, grilled or blackened. The steaks are so good that they can definitely rival a steakhouse. To top it off the service has always been top notch. Rusty's has a cozy feeling and it's situated on a corner with parking along the street. The orders arrive to the table quickly even when the restaurant is full. Every waitress I've ever had never left our glasses empty. Rusty's is a great spot to dine in with family or colleagues. I will go as far to say that this is a staple/institution to the city of Vicksburg. I can assure you it will continue to be one of my go to spots whenever I'm in Vicksburg.
google avatar

Mike D.

Yelp
Favorite place to dine in Vicksburg. Great seafood, atmosphere and people. I always sit at the bar for great conversation.

Yelp
Great spot for dinner when staying in the area. Is popular so there will be a bit of a wait but is worth it. Wife had the grilled flounder & wouldn't stop exclaiming how great her meal was. I have a crustacean allergy so had to stick w their teriyaki chicken and it was very good - not overcooked & great flavor. Is in the old part of town so makes for a nice post dinner stroll.
google avatar

Tandy K.

Yelp
Fabulous! Food and service exceptional! Right in the middle of downtown Vicksburg! Full bar, outdoor seating, good vibes!

Larry H.

Yelp
We had blackened redfish and soft shell crab. Both were delicious with great flavor. Service was excellent. Would definitely return

Yelp
Holy cow!! This place was phenomenal in every way. Our server was amazing and the food was incredible. It may have been extra good because I'm in a diet, but I think it was fantastic all around. We will make a special trip to MS just to eat here again. It is sad that the riverboat museum, once moved, completely blocked out the river view. We were disappointed about that, but the food made up doe the lack of view. The flavor was just grand, it was hot and well-seasoned. I would have loved to have tried that enormous chocolate cake, but alas that darn diet.
google avatar

Cajun K.

Yelp
My dad and I ate here after visiting the Military Park. The food was great. I had the shrimp tacos and my dad had the cheeseburger. The fried pickles made for an excellent appetizer (accompanied by house made Ranch). Downtown Vicksburg is quaint and what you'd expect from an old small town. Clean, quiet, packed with history. I recommend this restaurant. Numerous options on the menu.

Yelp
My family will always stop in on the way to the beach!!!! We love seafood and this place doesn't disappoint!!!

Yelp
Very nice for a Vicksburg establishment. Great bar. Great food. Nice staff, too! 10th floor, a bit better!

Yelp
Found this place while exploring Mississippi, this restaurant is located in VicksBurg, downtown area, right across from the Mississippi River Commission. For starters, we ordered a cup of gumbo: New Orleans-style with fresh shrimp, oysters, scallops, fish and sausage topped with rice. (I added hot sauce for more flavorful and with the fresh rolls.) We also ordered the Flash-fried Blue Crab claws served with lemon butte and homemade cocktails sauce. Which I never had before, and we were pleased with how the tasted, so this is a must try for anyone's who enjoy crab legs. For main dish: My boyfriend ordered the Rusty's House Specialty, it's a Blackened Redfish with crawfish creamy sauce, with cheesy grits and side salad. The sauce is real creamy, tasty and plenty of crawfish meat. For me, I had the Grouper Fish Fry on a sesame seed bun with Sweet Potato Fries. The fish fried is plain, the sweet potato fries are a little saggy. Overall, the food was good, the service was good and the staff/customers followed the State's mandatory mask requirements.

Judy S.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised at the food here. Shared the fried green tomato appetizer which was amazing. Grilled grouper got five stars. Never had it better!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Lunch at Rusty's is a must-do if you're in Vicksburg! Great food (something for everyone) and atmosphere. The service is terrific (ask for Ebony)!

Yelp
You never know for sure what you're gonna get when you're traveling. Well, we hit the jackpot with Rusty's Riverfront Grill. It's not fancy, but it's delicious. We started with crab cakes with Cajun Mayo. The blackened Tuna Caesar featured fresh romain with traditional caesar dressing and perfectly medium rare with a spicy crust of seasoning. The specialty, blackened redfish with crayfish sauce was something special and unique and quite tasty. Perfectly done green beans and a nice baked potato rounded out the meal. The wine list was rather lackluster for this gluten free gal, but if you can drink beer, you're in luck.

Sophiea B.

Yelp
Always pleased with the food and service. The atmosphere is amazing and there is always a line to get in. Worth the visit and the wait
