The Best Restaurants In Capitol Hill - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"You probably won’t be able to hear yourself speak over the din of Ukrainian families, groups of friends, and semi-blaring pop-music at Ruta, but you don’t come here to chat. You come here to eat some of the best potato and sauerkraut-stuffed varenyky in town (which makes sense—Ruta was started by one of the chefs from New York’s legendary Veselka). A wall of gold mirrors and paintings of saints look down over the closely packed tables crowded with bottles of Ukrainian beer, plates of honey cake, bowls of borscht, and the best chicken kiev we’ve ever had." - madeline weinfield

Terrible place. Our server was slow and didn't even know what they were selling or how to correctly describe the food when asked. It took them 20min for the food to come out cold. Food was very expensive and in very small portions. The quesabirria was three small tortillas with Costco cheese and super salty, it didn't even come with sides like beans and rice or a small salad to contrast. The margarita was super watered down I barely tasted the alcohol. Not coming back ever!

My friend & I stopped in when looking for lunch. Once inside, we were greeted & provided with menus, silverware, chips & salsa. The menu had so many options, great choice of liquors as well and the amazing service. We ordered the quesabirria tacos and margaritas. Everything was hot, fresh, and the drinks were tasty. Definitely would recommend & plan to go when we’re in town next! Adding a photo but was taken on an app with a filter, overall great food & totally recommend for lunch/dinner/happy hour.

The staff are extremely racist and rude and the owner pointed and laughed and said a lot of racial and homophobic things about my coworker assuming we don’t speak Spanish. We are black. When we began speaking in fluent Spanish they actually got angry but did not apologize for all the rude remarks. I will never return!! They even refused to serve us chips and salsa but gave it to the white table that entered right after us. We waited about 45 minutes for 3 papusas and was berated in Espanol the whole time!!

I wish I could come twice a week. Actually I am trying to come twice a week! My plate of nachos was very carefully arranged and every ingredient was absolutely delicious. It took a while but my plate of nachos were well prepared and generous and affordable. What a beautiful place to spend time with friends and also family. What I like most is that the owner is always on top of everything and the waitresses, my respect, serve you with great affection, everything within the margin of respect. I recommend it. I have danced at route 50 and it is a marvelous place for dancing except on the evening I think it's Tuesday evening when they're closed. Of course they lock up at 2:00 a.m. because they serve alcohol. I don't drink but I enjoy dancing here in other places with friends or even alone. I'm a figure model but I'm not much to look at. All I mean by that is that I'm like into art in music and all that. One night I was enjoying a glass of juice at route 50 bar and grill the senoritas were dancing under the bubbles falling from the ceiling and yes it was spectacular and I won't see more because what happens at route 50 bar and grill.... Stays at route 50 bar and grill if you know what I mean.

Recently visited Ruta 50 Bar and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The place has a laid-back ambiance, making it easy to unwind after a long day. Their drink selection was diverse, catering to both classic tastes and those looking for something a bit different. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring that my drink was just right and checking in at just the right moments. The background music added to the vibe without being overwhelmingly loud. A solid spot for a casual evening out. I'd be keen to drop by again when I'm in the area.

I never been so disappointed about a Mexican restaurant. I had to call the waiter after 15 minutes waiting and not even asking For our drinks. The food was so spicy I couldn’t even eat it. I’m Mexican born and rise and I eat spicy food but that was just not eatable.

Yelp
Great food, fun drinks, easy parking, wheelchair access. The place hops at night. The servers were super attentive. They were out of quest. Try it next time.

Yelp
This is the first time Yelp did me dirty.... First of all, we wanted to go here since it seemed like it was the only place that was open around 10 pm on a Friday night. However, what the other reviews don't tell you is that it is sketchy. It was so sketchy that we, grown adults with martial arts backgrounds, decided not to stay to eat there. This establishment takes the cake of the least friendly place we've ever been too. The lights were turned off basically inside and all you could see was neon, a bouncer, loud music, and a lot of dudes just drinking and standing around. I've been to many places with just dudes and they were welcoming and having a good time so it's not the same. We saw no food so we bounced.

Yelp
Me and my friends stumbled on a crazy spot. The food, drinks and music is amazing. The start offf the drinks are strong. We started with a mango margarita and strawberry mojito. The mojito was my favorite made with fresh strawberries. Appetizers we got the fried calamari and yuca. They're were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft and pillowy in the inside. I got the flautas that were crispy and the salad guacamole combo on top was a nice cold contrast. The birria tacos were juicy and the shell was crispy. Server was so sweet and worked with us explained the menu.

Yelp
This is a fantastic, underrated little Mexican place! We stopped in for a late lunch and loved the atmosphere, food, and service! Got guac for our appetizer and it was great, perfect spice level. Rice was a little different but great mixed with the beans. Drinks and enchiladas and quesabirria were excellent! Will most definitely be back!

Yelp
Arrived on a Saturday night around after midnight. They do have a good security presence and very visible throughout- they do pat down guys. Inside was very good party vibe but service was lacking because of disorganization and servers flirting with cliental. Music was okay, not what I expected from a latin bar and crowd was more middle aged and beyond.

Yelp
New place in the 7 corners area, the place smell like a new car.  Good food made by young lady from Mexico who knows how to pour on the flavor in this town. The menu is pretty extensive with a lot of variety and dishes I don't see in other latino restaurants. I highly recommend this place!!!

Yelp
Wow. What a new undiscovered gem. The food here is amazing. I got the Ceviche Mixto which was excellent. Just beautiful to eat. The Yucca con Chicharron was great with both the yucca and pork being tender. The chips are delicious though they aren't the best in DC that I've had, they are in the top 5 (maybe 3). The sauce they came with was unique and so good. I will definitely be returning. Do note that it does seem to turn into a loud club after 8pm on weekends catering to young Latins and it has door security so plan accordingly. If you're scared of young Spanish people speaking loudly in Spanish (like some other reviewers seem to be) then I don't know what to say. Stop being racist maybe?

Yelp
A hidden Gem for sure. Walked in on a Friday around 9pm to order Fajitas Pollo to-go. Delicious, authentic and great value compared to surrounding restaurants. The security on the weekend simply demonstrates that they care about the safety of their customers since it does take on a club type atmosphere after 9pm (you'd expect the same in DC, so that was admirable). Everyone acts like family in this place, guests and employees. It took less than 15 minutes for my food - I'll definitely be coming back to eat in soon.
