We saw the Capulet‘s a ballet performed by the Chicago repertory ballet last night. It’s an intimate venue. The ballet was beautifully done. You could probably buy tickets the night of although we got our time. You’re looking for something to do I can recommend.

My daughter’s experience at the summer dance intensive at Ruth Page was wonderful. She learned from teachers and danced with students from multiple countries and came away not just a better dancer, but a better human. She’ll remember this experience forever.

Loved taking afro cuban classes here!

How wonderful a whole building devoted to dance. There’s several studios, and archive, and the theater. I was so excited to take a wonderful ballet class with Vanessa lake, and so thankful that there is live accompanist (piano). Thank you for employing musicians to join our dancing. I will definitely be back.

I have been dancing at this studio for the past 4 years, and I just have to say that it is amazing. Over the years that I have studied here, the teachers at this school have flooded me with valuable corrections and tips to make my dancing better. It is a warm, and welcoming environment and I would reccommend it to anyone looking for quality training and kind people.

Google
I love my dance classes at Ruth Page. I've been a regular dancer there for 3 years, since the return of dance teacher Tracy Vonder Haar. She's amazing and I can't imagine a better teacher. Tho I know that other teachers at Ruth Page are also outstanding.

Ruth Page’s expert ballet instructors provided my daughter with exceptional technique, strong discipline and a deep love of this art form. They also provided opportunities to train and perform around the world, delivering on their promise of an international experience. She now dances professionally with The National Ballet of Cuba. A number of prominent ballets companies count male and female Ruth Page students among their ranks, and some have risen to principal roles. Students who start here can go anywhere. Parents looking for a serious ballet school should strongly consider this outstanding institution.

I took an open adult beginner ballet class. Registering and paying for class was simple and quick. The gentleman at the front desk was polite and friendly. The studio space has radiator heat and newer windows compared to the age of the building, but was a bit drafty. The sprung floors are covered with marley. This class featured a live pianist. The barres are wooden in wooden mounts; they felt a bit creaky. In class, the teacher made a point of meeting each new student before class began and adjusting placement to have each "newbie" surrounded by regular students. The teacher also made a point of arranging the newcomers during center work and assigning partners for cross-floor traveling steps. The class was challenging, but not difficult beyond a beginner level. It is important to have previous dance experience--positions and moves will not be explained, but they will be practiced. The center work built up gradually, with "easy" and "harder" options (ex. "easy" - sous-sous vs. "harder" - full turn in sous-sous). The cross-floor movements also advanced from basic to more involved, adding a little bit of something new each time. The teacher provided attention and correction for all students. Her manner was serious, but not severe or unkind, and she did have a few jokes to share throughout the class. The woman's dressing room was rather untidy. I felt a bit like younger students were treating it like an extension of their own messy bedrooms: clothing and coats all over the floor. There are limited lockers to use, so you will want to bring your wallet/keys/valuables into the studio with you.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the performance of Booms Day that I attended at The Ruth Page Center for the Arts. The performance itself was high-energy and the smaller size of the theatre meant there isn't a bad seat in the house. Seating is first-come, first-served; however, it was not difficult to nab seats that were close to the stage. I enjoyed looking at the nostalgia photos and some of the other artwork displayed around the space during the intermission as well.

Yelp
I love this theater! It's small and quaint. The staff is so nice and the location is great - located in the heart of the Gold Coast. This little neighborhood theater offers big performances. Because of the theater size, all seats are fantastic. Don't think you're just going to get little shows that no one cares about. I have seen big numbers and small. They have all been very impressive. I always look forward to an evening at The Ruth Page Center For The Arts!

Yelp
great studio theater and the kids did an amazing job on their dance performance. Always a pleasant time when I get a chance to see any form of performance. The place was exceptionally cleaned and the staff was amazingly great.

Yelp
This school has been so wonderful for our kid. The teachers are serious but kind, the students are multi racial and from all over the city, everyone seems to be having a lot of fun while learning.

Yelp
Ruth Page Center for the Arts is a great complex for dance classes and theater, and I recently saw the Chicago Children's Theater production of "A Year With Frog and Toad" here. Ticket buying was easy online, and the website calendar of shows was very clear and detailed. Picking up the tickets at Will Call was easy, and the staff here are incredibly nice. The theater is intimate, not a bad seat in the house. The production was very well done, with great lighting, sets, and visuals, such as using a waving parachute for water and snow. The acting was a mix of veterans and newly graduated thespians, and the cast did a great job telling the story of two friends and their adventures. This was a musical, and the songs were done well, and the small crew of musicians were on point. My son and I knew the stories well, and I was a bit worried that he was too old for this production. In actuality, he and I were laughing a lot at the "asides" and things younger kids weren't getting, so kudos to Chicago Children's Theater for making it a well-rounded production for kids of all ages.

Yelp
Went to see Gypsy tonight at the Ruth Page Center. Show was pretty good. House is small- about 100 seats. The company has a long history in Chicago. Without a doubt, they work hard to provide ever important theatrical art to the Chicago community. Go check them out. It will be a fun evening.

Yelp
Yep, I dig dancing and I'm not worried one bit about my man card. You want to know why?? Because dancers are super fit, talented, sexy, and creative!! Which means their HOT!!! OK yes, sytycd maybe have put that dancing bug in me. And so it begins... I'll admit I've never even heard of this place when I arrived for the "Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival" but that's not saying much since I'm new to the art. Dancers came from all around but there were more Chicago based troupes then any other of which I was strangely proud of. It's not exactly what I expected but I appreciated so much of it still. I was lucky enough to get a 3 day pass at cheap rate and I actually went everyday. The box office gal and I became friends. She was nice and really funny. Actually all of the staff there were helpful and nice. The building seems to be kept up pretty well, it's not braid new or anything but at least the seats are comfortable enough and clean. I scoped out the place and saw that they have classes for all sorts of dance for those brave enough to enter this magical art. So night one... I understand that this is only their 2nd year doing this but between the air being out (I and the whole crowd were sweating in our seats), problems with their lights, and major gaps between dancers, it seemed like their first run at this. Some dancers were nice and some were creative but nobody seemed to be giving their all in their stories. To be honest I couldn't take anymore I left during the intermission worried about tomorrows performance. Night two... Air was fixed, lights were better, and less gaps. Dancers were amazing, stories were interesting and the music was awesome. I learned that you expect flying through the air or super flexible people. Don't get me wrong they were great but it wasn't mind blowing (well a few were, Aerial dance Chicago = WOW). Night three... Pants came with me this time and we sat up in the balcony which is were almost all of the dancers sat before and after their performance. It was kind of cool to be surrounded like that and every one was nice. I would say that the performances were about as good as night two but with a few more odd performances. I feel lucky to have gone to this, it seemed to be all about the dance community and the people who support them. I will be seeing another show here and I can't wait to look into some of the Chicago performers and their shows in other locations.

Yelp
We came here for a musical theater performance but it looks like they do much more here. We were in a fairly large black box theater that included a balcony. We had front row seats in the balcony and the view was slightly obstructed by the railing. I usually prefer balcony seats but I would skip them here. The box office was very nice and though one of our party was late they held his ticket with his name so he could join us when he arrived. They do sell drinks and snacks that you can bring to your seats. It was really cold so the daughter got some hot coffee to keep her warm.

Yelp
I attended a Porchlight performance of "A Chorus Line" at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts today. It is a smaller venue with good acoustics and excellent sight lines. There was a minor glitch with online tickets and traditional printed tickets involving a couple of groups which was very efficiently handled by the staff. I would have liked to have taken a tour of the Center and learned more about dancer-choreographer Ruth Page, who was a true Chicago legend. Unfortunately time did not permit.

Yelp
Best studio by far. In the most convenient location. They also have parking which is quite useful. I just take adult classes and mostly ballet ones. It also is a school and you are surrounded by these little ballerinas (it can be a little intimidating but I consider it good for you!) I love the ballet classes here. They are taught in the traditional ballet like. The building is absolutely adorable. They also feature live piano music which makes a huge difference when you are squeezing back into a leotard after 5 years of being away from one. I have also met a number of my new closest friends here and that makes the entire experience much more enjoyable. They also have famouse teachers like Birute and Larry Levine!

Yelp
I saw a play here recently and it was okay. The theater was small and kind of outdated, but regardless of the location of your seats you are going to be close enough to the stage. The place is a little dusty and could use a good cleaning. The lady working the door was a bit abrupt and perhaps dare I say it a bit rude. As soon as we walked in the door she raised her voice and stated where we were suppose to go and pointed in the general direction without interacting with us to determine if she was correct. The play was decent and priced very reasonably with the Goldstar app tickets, but the actors read out of a binder throughout their performance, so it kind of felt like a school play. Wait even in a school play you don't get to read your lines do you? Whatever the case, the actors projected their voices and used emotion appropriately enough that it made up for the fact that they didn't have stage props, costume changes, or their lines memorized. At one point one of the actors was feverishly turning the pages of her binder trying to find the right spot. I felt a little bad for her, but she found her place before it was her turn again. In order for this to be a 5 star studio they will need to do a deep cleaning of the floors, wall, furniture, and replace the staff that aren't friendly. Everything is about the experience and you don't get the "experience" from these people or the decor.

Yelp
There is nowhere else you can get three legendary ballet masters in one roof. Dolores, Beirute and Randy seriously provide top notch ballet training, both to the academy students as well as adults and professional dancers. I have improved greatly because of these three. Also offered is Afro Cuban, which is a fun and kick butt workout; tai chi, with an amazing instructor, Tom, who is welcoming and great to watch when he does the long form; and salsa. I was lucky enough to be in their production of the Nutcracker, which is a beautifully set production and makes it more accessible to younger or non ballet folk. Seriously a gem in professional, or leisurely training.

Yelp
My daughter started taking dance classes here when she was three years old, and it was always a great experience as a parent to bring her here. She had wonderful teachers, and her classes featured live piano music, as opposed to the digital versions that are often used. Although my daughter did not continue in dance (she evolved into more of a soccer-type in her tweens), she has fond memories of her time at Ruth Page. I credit much of her discipline, confidence, and good posture to the classes she took here. We still go back for shows on occasion just because we love the school so much!

Yelp
I brought my daughter to Ruth Page Center for the Arts when she was two years old, because they had convenient parking. She began ballet in the beginning pink troupe, taught by Miss Lauren, who has since moved to New York to follow her own dancing dreams. From the start, the discipline and excellent instruction she received as a little child was impressive. She was thrilled to appear in the Nutcracker under the steady hand of Miss Beruti, and is now receiving skilled direction from Miss Laura. A couple years in, my daughter was promoted to begin instruction with Miss Patty, a legend in the dance world. Miss Lauren and Miss Patty nurtured my girl's passion for dance, and I strongly believe that through dancing, she has taken away a skill set that can be transmitted to any other situation in life; of listening, learning, being open to new things, treating friends and teachers with respect, and finding joy in building a beautiful production through cooperation with like-minded classmates. Many parents have shared with me a belief that I also hold: That the friendships begun through Ruth Page have a rock-solid foundation, more than just the typical elementary school can give. The children share a bond through their love of artistic expression and understanding that there is no substitute for hard work. Through the years, I believe that whatever my child chooses to do with her life, she will always reflect on the wisdom of Miss Lauren, Miss Patty, Miss Laura, Miss Beruti and all the other instructors, and benefit from a life experience that was so much more than just dance education.

Yelp
I attended the Chicago Architecture Foundation open house tour at the Ruth Page Center this weekend which was fantastic. I have walked by this building on north Dearborn Street for many years and figured that it was about time to see more than the outside. I'm glad I attended, while this tour was not really focused on the architecture of the building, tour guests were treated with two performances from dancers in one of the rehearsal studios. One performance was with three ballerinas doing a movement from the Nutcraker and the other was a contemporary dance performed by a sexy young dancer named Gino. It is always good to see virile young men with well-developed bodies engaging in contemporary dance. I plan to attend some performances in the future since I live in the neighborhood and suggest others do the same. The Ruth Page Center was where ballet star Barichnikov received training. The Ruth Page Center is really a gem in the city.

Yelp
Seats for a show are come first serve, but there really isn't a bad seat in the house, which is ideal for children's shows.

Yelp
It was such a nostalgic experience. The puppeteer was amazing and the kids were just in such awe!! It's not just for the kids though, if you're into the arts this will definitely get you in tune with your creative and sentimental side. Apparently there's always a different act so il be coming back for more in the summer I'm sure!!

Yelp
Ruth Page is so great and Vanessa is the best!

Yelp
Ruth Page is a historical dance foundation with great ballet teachers; Larry Long, Baruti, and Greg. There is an advance/professional ballet class in the am, I think 11am, and an intermediate adult ballet class most evenings at 6p. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot, just sign in your car.
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
I've only had wonderful experiences here. I wanted to start up ballet again as I used to dance time ago. I only did the intermediate ballet classes, but it was so wonderful. They made me feel comfortable and the space was great! And they actually use a real, live piano player as oppose to silly iPod for music. Anyways, I would strongly recommend this place to anyone.

Yelp
I took several months of beginning adult ballet with Vanessa here and absolutely loved it. I've taken quite a bit of dance as an adult, like jazz, hip hop and modern, but no ballet, something I've always felt I was lacking. Vanessa's instruction was not geared towards super beginners, but it was perfect for me. She taught real, solid technique and gave very helpful corrections throughout. I loved having live accompaniment for the classes.By the end of several months, I had noticeably improved and was starting to feel like a dancer. I really appreciate teachers of adult dance classes who don't "teach down" to us and who try to teach us good technique even though we're all just doing it for fun and fitness. I highly recommend classes at Ruth Page!

Yelp
Great small ( but old) theater. We went to see Mr. Chikee's Funny Money. Fantastic show with a great message. Top notch cast and score for sure! Small theater allows for an intimate experience. Just go.

Yelp
I saw Ameba's "Time Flies" here over the weekend, and the theatre is really gorgeous - very comfy, great sight line, and the stage is gorgeous. Can't wait to see another show here!

Yelp
The best dance training in Chicago, hands down. A level of experience and training that is unparalleled. You and your child will never regret this experience!
