Cafe Olli’s Taylor Manning and Siobhan Speirits’s Favorite Portland Restaurants | Eater Portland

"Ruthie’s is a go-to for me: anything they do with potatoes, especially their potato salads in every iteration, is perfect stoner comfort food, and I admire how they fully embrace what’s special to them and execute it in their own way." - Thom Hilton

Stopped here for lunch on our way throigh the area the other day and had a great meal for a good price. My dad particularly enjoyed the Big R sandwich while mom topped off the meal with a slice of blackberry pie. If we're ever in the area again I would definitely stop here again for lunch.

I love local restaurants. But this visit was complete let down. There is 1. Charge for water 2. 2.00 charge for a extra plate if sharing 3. 75c charge for marinara even if you buy provolone sticks 4. 2.25 for a can of pop/soda 5 cash only be prepared If you think of a charge they are going to charge for it. The waitress was not very kind. The crowd was not busy so not sure why this was. The food was good and the prices are good if you can get over the hidden charges they don’t tell you about If you have a family this might not be the best stop but worth a shot

Ruthie’s Diner might not be in Ohio, but the second you take a bite of the iconic Big R sandwich—stacked with kielbasa, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and mustard—you’ll be like, yo, am I in the Midwest multiverse? This place is straight vibing with cozy energy, skibidi-certified chaos, and meals that absolutely slap. The Big R? Built different. Portions are lowkey massive (big chungus approved), the staff is wholesome AF, and the whole vibe feels like comfort food and main character energy had a baby. 10/10, would devour again.

Stepping into Ruthie's Diner feels like coming home. From the moment you walk through the door, you're greeted with a warmth that's becoming increasingly rare, and it's clear that exceptional service is a top priority here. But let's talk about the food – because that's where Ruthie's truly shines! Whether you're in the mood for a classic diner breakfast that hits all the right notes, a hearty lunch, or a comforting dinner, Ruthie's delivers. You can tell that everything is made with care, and the portions are generous without being overwhelming. The staff at Ruthie's deserves a special shout-out. They are attentive, friendly, and genuinely seem to enjoy their work. My server made the entire dining experience even more enjoyable. It's clear they work as a well-oiled machine, ensuring that every table is taken care of efficiently and with a smile. If you're looking for genuinely good food served with a side of genuine hospitality, look no further than Ruthie's. It's a place you'll want to return to again and again. Highly recommended!

This small quaint place was amazing. The food was delicious and fresh. The staff was very friendly and made to sure my visit was very pleasant. The atmosphere was great. This restaurant reminds me of a restaurant back in California that I went to called Flo's Cafe

Growing up as a kid this place was a special place my family would visit often when we were in the area. My family and I stopped for Mother's Day and to my surprise things weren't too great. The toast on my turkey club had been burnt, my wife got chicken strips and they we dryer than my hands in the winter months, my sister's food was alright but for my mom's sandwich they forgot to ask what bread she wanted so they gave her losey white.Overall they should pay more attention to their food and step up the quality like I remembered as a kid. (Yes I was just a picky then) and lastly they should invest in new plates. I could imagine that the current plates were original to the dinners opening date many years ago judging by all off the faded knife marks on the once egg shell colored plates now with a faded touch of gray from multiple years of knife marks which makes the surface appear dirty.

Nice "old style" restaurant. All dishes are really cheap and tasty. The service is very friendly. The roasted beef was extremely tasty, only the artificial sauce spoiled the taste. Would love to come back
