I have lived in the Boise area for 20 years, but I have never been to Ruth Chris's before. My wife and I were here for our anniversary. The main thing that struck me here was the attentiveness form the staff.
They were constantly walking around asking how we were doing and filling our glasses. We had no more taking a few drinks from our glasses, when someone came around to fill it up again.
I love being catered to, and I love my glass staying full, but this was a bit overkill. But, if I have to choose between places that let my glass run dry and a place that is always filling it, I will take the place that goes overboard to keep my glass full.
The place looks very nice and romantic. We got a booth, or maybe it is a half booth. In any event, it was very nice. The downsides though came when we got our food.
First out was the bread. The bottom of the bread was burnt. I could put burnt bread aside, but unfortunately, the let downs did not end there.
Next we both had Filet Mignon. All items are ala kart, so we picked a side. We have Potatoes Al Graton (pardon the spelling, as Im pretty sure that is not right)
The potatoes came out and were almost raw in some places. The flavor was good, but not that good. The ones that were done anyway. I was expecting a very elevated dish in such a fancy restaurant. They were not!
To be honest, Ive had better out of a box.Next up was the steak. They dont spare the butter here. Both steaks were swimming in it, and if you've ever seen a steak swim, its a bit weird.
I would taste way more of the butter than I could taste of the steak. Both mine and my wifes were also very unevenly cooked. On the outside, both were just the way we ordered them and like them.
Once we got more towards the middle of the steaks, they were very underdone and even close to rare in some places.
The good news is that the server took mine back and cooked it a little longer. It was better but still underdone in many places. They gave us a free desert for it being our anniversary and another one for the underdone steak.
The steak was ok, but I would not go back for another. I prefer a good steak on a nice open grill or char broiled. Though the atmosphere is not upscale at all, I preferred Texas Roadhouse.
