Oof. I really didn't want to write this review. My husband and I have been going to Ruth's Chris for our anniversary for years, and we've almost always loved it. We hadn't tried this location before, but since we were visiting family from out of state we figured we'd mix things up and finally make up for our missed anniversary dinner.
Right when we walked in, we were surprised...it just didn't have the same upscale feel as the Portland location. The service was fine, but nothing memorable.
For the first time ever at a Ruth's Chris, my filet had two chunks of fat--not the melt-in-your-mouth kind, but the chewy, gag-worthy kind. We didn't send it back (even though we probably should have), and that's saying something because we pretty much always order the same thing and know exactly what to expect.
What we did send back... also a first, was the Lobster Mac & Cheese. The lobster tasted fishy and oddly chewy, like it had been sitting for a while, and the pasta itself just wasn't seasoned well. They remade it without the lobster, but the replacement tasted like plain, under-seasoned butter sauce. Definitely not the creamy, decadent dish we've had so many times before.
Our server was okay, but we felt a bit rushed. He mentioned that they normally gift cheesecake for anniversaries, but since they had leftover pumpkin cheesecake from the holiday, that's what we were given. My husband hates anything pumpkin-flavored, but we didn't complain since it was a complimentary dessert to share.
It all looked good but it didn't hit the mark this time.
