While having very positive past experiences at Ruth's Chris, our most recent experience on 7/4 was disappointing to say the least.
The disappointments started with the aloof way in which we were greeted. While our reservation was for 7:30 p.m., we arrived at approximately 7:25. After a brief wait to be seated, we were handed off to another young man whom we followed to the dining area. When he stopped at a table which to us seemed like it was in the middle of an aisle, we asked if we could be seated at one of the two open tables near the windows. The young man stuttered and said "I think those tables are being held for a large group, and we'll need to put those tables together." He did not offer to check on the status, but rather dismissed us and went on his way.
Though we were unhappy about the seating, we sat down and began looking at the menu. About 5 minutes later, another couple was ushered in and seated at one of those two open tables which were supposedly being saved to accommodate a large group. It is worth noting that the other table by the window remained empty the rest of the evening.
My next disappointment was with my food. Though I had ordered grilled salmon, it was brought out to me appearing as if it had been baked, not grilled. As I was dissatisfied with it, at my request, our waitress took it away and brought it back with grill marks on it -- but it tasted awful!! It was unseasoned, overcooked, dry and did not taste fresh!! After one bite, I ate no more.
At no time during our meal did our wait person return to our table to check on us, refill our water glasses or serve more bread. Adjoining tables were visited often by their wait person and were having lively, friendly exchanges with each other.
Later, as we were ready to leave, a woman who appeared to be part of the management staff, did come to our table and asked in a patronizing tone"How are WE doing? How was everything?" I told her that the salmon was unseasoned and overcooked to which she did not apologize or offer to remedy. Her stop ar our table seemed like an auto-pilot visit. She did ask if she could get us anything else to which I replied, "Yes, the check!"
Our past experiences at that location have been nothing but glowing from the host, to servers, to professional, mature wait staff, to food quality, all very positive. This recent visit was exactly the opposite. And what's become of the dress code when adults and teenagers alike are dressed in t-shirts and shorts at a supposed fine dining establishment? I guess we'll never know. We won't be back to find out.
