I'm sad to write one of my firsts bad reviews since I've become an Yelp Elite. I know that Ruth Chris is a chain, so I will base my opinion soley on the Long Beach branch.
My in-laws were visiting. My brother in law went to the Marina Del Rey one a week prior and raved about the steak. My mother in law wanted to also experience it, so I booked the one in Long Beach thinking it'd be more convenient for us... but man we went on an off day...
I had outdoor reservations. I got there, and they wouldn't set up the table until after we got there and made us wait 15 minutes for the table. (The outdoor seating was empty at the time.) They then proceeded to seat us. Shortly after, they seated 3 more parties. It took them maybe 20 minutes to get our order. An hour after we ordered, someone that seemed to have a little more authority came to tell us they had "technical difficulty in the kitchen" and offered us some appetizer for an apology. (And the only reason why I gave them a 2 for Star)
But during those time, our server, who they dispatched the bartender (who's supposed to only do bar tending) they made her our server. She was kind... but she's working the bar... there's no way she's going to be attentive to anything we may need. Meanwhile, the couple sitting behind us, was supposedly a friend of few of the staff there. The male server + the bar tender kept visiting them. Kept giving them 2 extra heaters, kept refilling their water, and they never visited our t able afterwards.
An hour and a half later, our bartender server came and gave us our food. She told us she didn't want to lie to us, and said the chef had left mid shift due to family passing away. (I hope she didn't lie about this...) but all that to say, we got our steak burnt to a crisp. We ordered medium and I've had many medium steaks. That one had enough burt pieces but still tasted like an okay steak. My son got a New York steak medium well plus.... but that shit wasn't beef anymore. I ate a piece of his steak and the only flavor i had... was crispy bitter burnt pieces.
I can't believe they thought giving us an appetizer wouldmake up for the BS of a steak we paid for. We had 5 ppl in our party... the bill was $345 but being served burnt ruined steak at Ruth Chris, a famous HIGH END steak chain to mess up steak is just the biggest let down. The parking situation is horrible here. It's completely dead area... and they can't serve their steak right, I will never visit this location ever again.
Staff were kind...but if I'm paying $345 for food, I expect it to be done right. For anyone thinking of visiting, just go to another chain. That's the benefit of the chain.
This is exactly why I avoid chain steak places... Often time it's corporate enough that no one really gives a hoot on quality or service. There is no passion behind what they serve. If you want a good steak experience, I recommend local steak shops. Porterhouse Bourbon & Bones in El Segundo was amazing for about the same price or slightly cheaper.
