Yelp
Perfectly fine, perfectly mid, rather overpriced place on the outskirts of downtown. We started right, fried pickles were good (though obviously frozen from a bag), cookie & cream milkshake was super on point. I had the grilled chicken salad and the chicken was dry, there was extremely minimal blue cheese and bacon on it, it had very little flavor overall, and I think it was around $18? The gf had steak frites, the steak was pretty tender and cooked right, but had zero flavor to it other just being a basic slab of beef (no "crust" or signs of a proper searing), the fries looked great but didn't have any flavor, didn't even seem to have salt on them, and weren't crispy.
Ambience and service were really nice. It's unique vibe in here, though the playlist is quite literally the top radio hits of 1992-1996, so prepare for a lot of Nirvana, RHCP, and Blind Melon.
As I often have to say in reviews of the Charleston food scene, "price sets expectations" and when a lunch for two costs over $100 after tip I expect to be blown away... instead I found myself thinking that the last time I got a salad at Zaxbys it was far better and much cheaper, by at least a third if not more. Just like an $18 burger shouldn't lose to a $6 Whopper, an $18 salad should not come up short compared to a $10 Zaxbys salad, who will give me 10x the cheese and have much juicier, flavorful chicken.
