The wife and I went to RM seafood a year or so ago for lunch and were not very impressed. But Rx Boiler Room came highly recommended so we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant has an interesting steam-punky, New Orleans Voodoo lounge vibe to it. As we walked up to the host stand a waiter was talking to the girls at the counter and he did this little goofy kind of dance step that I mimicked back to him that got a laugh out of all of them. He told the hostess, "Put these guys in my section." So we were off and running.
They have quite the interesting drink list that comes to you via an iPad. Very cool to be able to see what each drink looks like before you order. I went with the Poire Dakkar which consists of, Hennessy Black, Pimms #1 Liqueur, Curry-Pear Shrub, Honey Syrup, Lemon Juice, Baked Apple Bitters, Black Walnut Bitters, Black Pepper. There must be some egg white in the mixture as well as the drink had this cool little foam cap on the top. The drink was excellent. Very refreshing and sweet.
For an appetizer we went with the bacon wrapped pork belly with quail egg. What could be better than bacon wrapped bacon. This was excellent. The quail egg really seemed to cut through the saltiness of the bacon and give the bite a nice creamy texture. For dinner I ordered the Chicken Parmigian and the wife chose the Guinness braised beef short rib. I mistakenly assumed that the chicken parm would be breast meat as it is most times I've ordered but apparently chef Moonen likes to go with thigh meat. Unfortunately I don't like dark meat so I was a bit dissapointed when the plate arrived. But lucky for me my wife was willing to swap dishes with me so I ended up eating her short rib. I had also ordered a side of mashed potatoes that sadly went to waste as the short rib came with mashed potatoes.
The short rib was very good but the wife wasn't too impressed with the chicken parm.
For dessert we decided to try the ice cream tasting game as it sounded like fun. We got all of the flavors but one, Raspberry Mint. C'mon man putting 2 flavors together in one is a bit of a cheat. The funny thing is that my wife said that she tasted mint in that one. I didn't get mint at all.
Overall Rx Boiler Room was a good experience. I definitely enjoyed it more than RM Seafood.
