Philly’s Best Breakfast Sandwiches | Eater Philly

"While a simple bagel with cream cheese may not seem like a breakfast sandwich, Rybread has flipped this idea on its head by adding Nova lox, lettuce, tomato, and red onion, making for a fulfilling start to any morning." - George Banks-Weston

Cute and quaint sandwich shop in Fairmount! Stopped in for lunch and ordered the Santa Monica (+turkey) on sourdough. The bread was fresh, ingredients were all really tasty and the sandwich was stacked. For $15 I would expect it to be, not a cheap price by any means! The service was a bit cold, I could tell the person taking our order didn’t want to be there. I get it though. It smelled a little odd in the place as well, but luckily it was a 60 degree day so we could sit outside. Overall, I enjoyed the sandwich and outdoor seating availability. I think the price is a bit high but I would still considering coming back!

My partner and I recently visited a local breakfast spot, and while we spent around $30, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The standout of the meal? The hot chocolates. They were absolutely delicious—rich, creamy, and the perfect balance of sweetness. If you’re a fan of a good hot chocolate, this is definitely the place to get it. For the food, my partner opted for a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. He found that the sandwich was mostly carried by the butter. For me, the eggs were over-peppered and lacked enough salt for seasoning. Unfortunately, the rest of the sandwich didn’t have much going for it flavor-wise. The gluten-free options were a bit underwhelming, as the only option they seemed to offer was gluten-free bread, with little variety for those with dietary restrictions. On a positive note, the café is clean, and the service was friendly and attentive. The staff made us feel welcome, which added a nice touch to the visit. However, unless we’re coming back just for the hot chocolate, we’re not sure we’d return.

Google
Rybread has great sandwiches, but has inconsistent hours and is no longer an option after work since they close so early. It used to be my go to, but now I just go to Sandwich Corner- better service, better hours, and equally good food.

Google
Just another restaurant that wants to ignore the people delivering their food for scraps while the money from those deliveries flow in. I'm not going to stand and wait around for 20 minutes while one person keeps taking orders and making their drinks while the other employees just tell me to talk to the person recreating the Sloth DMZ scene from Zootopia. I try not to be the stereotypical pushy delivery driver but I am really starting to understand why so many are like that because of places like this.

Google
Rybread has been providing catering for my company's quarterly board meetings since mid 2024 They always have outstanding customer service, prompt inquiry response times, and have the food delivered neatly and on time. The sandwiches and salads are the best in the area on prices and quality. We look forward to this order every quarter. It's always a pleasure working with the manager, Stephanie.

I am not the type of person to usually write a review, but I feel like this was warranted. I literally just picked up my order. When I went to the front to ask for my pick up order. The girl at the counter said “that was you?” And then proceeded to say my build a sandwich was a weird sandwich and said she hopes it tastes good because it doesn’t sound like it. I was shocked that she thought that was appropriate to say. I’m shocked because I live next store and come in every week. I will make sure not to go back because I was made fun of for a sandwich I ordered.

Google
One of my favorite local sandwich spots. The Tuscano Sandwich is THE BEST EVER! Top notch Mocha Latte here. It’s small inside and can be very busy, I always order to go. Please, pick up the phone for pick up orders!!! I hate paying app fees when I could just call. Someone answers 1/2 the time.

Google
Visiting a friend from out of town and really enjoyed our food from Rybread! The staff were welcoming, helpful and gave great recommendations. Buffalo chicken panini and Italian hoagie were great options! Plenty of seating options inside and out.

Yelp
I have to give a 5-star shoutout to Rybread! We ordered pick-up on Sunday morning and it estimated a 20 minute wait. We headed over right on time and when I walked it you could tell it was super busy. There was some seating but I didn't take much time to look as I stepped up to the counter within a minute of entering to ask for my order. When I gave the cashier the name, I noticed the scones on the counter that looked too delicious not to skip, so I made another purchase for those. My breakfast sandwiches were all ready and I got them as I paid for my scones. The drinks we ordered, a smoothie and a hot mocha, were not yet made, but it seemed intentional as to not make one watered down or cold while waiting to be picked-up. The smoothie came out within 5 minutes and the coffee came out in the next 10-15 minutes. Normally having to wait like that for a pickup order (about 15-20 extra minutes after estimated) might have moved my review down a star or so, but the staff made it clear that someone had called out sick this morning and they were doing the absolute best they had with short hands. They were all friendly and working very quickly with the busy crowd. The sandwiches themselves were really delicious. We both got bacon breakfast sandwiches on a plain bagel with different specifications. There are plenty of meat and veggie options as well as bread/bagels to pick from. The drinks both tasted great as well. We definitely will be back and hopefully can enjoy sitting inside sometime if we get there at a lucky time :)

Yelp
Got a Hot Mocha Latte and Bacon Egg and Cheese on an everything bagel for $16 (a dollar upcharge because of the egg shortage at the moment so normally $15) Hot Mocha Latte - they have one size (16oz) and it's pretty good. Tastes like they use a chocolate sauce rather than a thin syrup. Reminds me of a dunkin hot chocolate with a hint of coffee Bacon Egg and Cheese on Everything bagel - it's alright. A little salty and I'm not a big fan of the bagel used. Oatmeal on the bagel They do have a nice seating area and a water station for refills

Yelp
I love this place for their salads. This is a high praise, coming from someone who normally don't prefer greens. So far, I've tried their Greek salad and House salad. Both are so refreshing and delicious that I actually find myself craving them. It's great that their portion size is pretty hefty, so the pricing of $12 - $13 per salad is very reasonable. I also love that they promote the use of sustainable take-out paper boxes and paper bags. Ambience-wise, Rybread offers a casual and inviting setting with plenty of natural lighting through their huge windows. With seating options in both inside and outside of the cafe, diners can get plugged in and turn their productivity up indoors or catch up with friends while basking in the sun outdoors. Of the times I've gone there, I haven't had to wait longer than 5 - 10 minutes before getting my order. It's great that service is efficient and courteous, so I'll be back for more of their salad soon.

Yelp
I was here for a yelp pickup event but wanted to stay to work a little since the place was not very crowded when I came. I ordered extra items and got the Portland Panini. It was a bit disappointing because I didn't read too clearly and didn't see that the Portland panini was made with wheat bread. (Instead of the classic ciabatta, focaccia, or baguette) So basically it's a sandwich, not a panini... I added chicken as an extra and the bread came out to be around $15. The "panini" was a bit soggy and almost room temperature when I took my first bite. It was tasty but there was nothing special about it. I liked how they have outlets throughout the shop close to the seats so if you were here to work you can easily charge your electronics. The amount of natural sunlight is welcoming. The staffs were really friendly. This is a cute coffee shop to grab coffee and breakfast to catch up with friends or work. I wouldn't come here and expect to be wow-ed or find anything innovative.

Yelp
I first tried Rybread on an Elite Experience a few weeks ago and was excited to go back. I stopped by a couple of days later and ordered 2 Santa Monica Sandwiches on sourdough bread to go. My husband and I tried the sandwiches and we both loved it. All ingredients tasted so fresh, which is always very important to us. It was delightful dinner option for us. The service at Rybread is quite nice, the people are nice and attentive. I loved the small coffee shop vibes and it's location.

Yelp
My bf and I came back for lunch and so happy to finally try something new/different. We ordered the veggie quiche, pasta salad, harvest salad and Cuban panini. Only two items we did not love were the pasta salad and harvest salad. Pasta was good, but needed more flavor. It was refreshing and a great snack. Harvest salad had a lot of good toppings, but it was very salty and very high in sodium. Loved the individual ingredients inside the salad! Veggie quiche was great and I would order it again. I would love to try the meat version. The Cuban panini was a 10/10 and I would 100% order that again. Loved everything about it and have zero complaints.

Yelp
Friendly staff Panini and PB smoothie. great food, smoothie was good but would get a different one next time. wifi and I think there's one outlet

Yelp
Great breakfast bagels and delicious ice coffee ! Friendly service and great location

Yelp
That buffalo cauliflower sandwich??? Told me all I need to know. Solid sandwich spot and they have gluten free bread if you need. Had a lovely nosh on the patio.

Yelp
Convenient neighborhood spot with overpriced sandwich, willing to pay the price of convenience until you guys force me to wait in line with others who haven't ordered yet for my online order that I have placed 30 mins prior. After working the overnight shift, now I gotta wait an extra 15 mins after 3 customers ordering like "can I get uhhhhhhhhhh..." while eyeing my sandwich on the counter 2 feet away from me. Absolutely frustrating! Please turn off online orders if you are going to make those customers wait even longer, makes no sense. No other place treats online orders like this. I've seen other complaints/reviews about this exact online order policy.

Yelp
Every time I'm in Philly my bro gets these breakfast sandwiches and it just HITS every time. Delicious everything bagel, bacon, well seasoned egg, melt my cheese, yum. The little label that indicates I have an American breakfast sandwich has a smiley face on it and hey! That makes me happy. Bro says somehow they're getting BETTER. Thanks for satiating my appetite RyBread!

Yelp
Friendly service and delicious breakfast food. I had a sesame bagel with egg and cheese and the bagel tasted so fresh. I was also really in the mood for a smoothie so I ordered the strawberry banana which also has coconut water in it for extra hydration. Just the combo I needed this morning. Highly recommend.

Yelp
My favorite cafe in Philly! I make a point to come here every time I'm in the area. The bagels are always fresh and the eggs are made from scratch so they are super fluffy. The smoothies are amazing as well. I always get the green machine to battle a hangover. They always have a daily fresh quiche option and pastries as well. The lunch options are equally as great. They get very busy on the weekend mornings! So be prepared to wait a little, but it's definitely worth the wait

Yelp
I would come to Rybread all the time, even before they moved locations on Fairmount. However, I feel like they went a little downhill as of late unfortunately and their sandwiches can be a bit inconsistent. I used to always get their Savannah Sandwich, which reminded me of Thanksgiving, but lately it has been a little bit a hit or miss. Either there is too much Brie which just overpowers the sandwich or you get the brines which just adds a weird texture/flavor to the sandwich. Sometimes there's cranberry sauce and other times just a little pinch. Recently, I got their San Fran panini which I thought was really salty. The prosciutto, the pesto, and hot pepper relish (an addition) was too salty to eat. I also asked for avocados which they forgot to include, but I wasn't going to call for a $2 refund. My boyfriend got the Santa Monica sandwich which was delicious. A standard BLT with avocado which was perfect. He also gets the Philadelphia sandwich, which is essentially an Italian hoagie, which can be also be a hit or miss in terms of flavor - sometimes too bready or sometimes everything just falls apart bc of the oils/vinaigrette. Personally, I think the Rybrew location is better when it comes to their sandwich's (same menu). They add a little bit more tenderness and love.

Yelp
While in town for an event, this became the go-to breakfast stop on the walk to the Philadelphia Convention Center. (We stopped here twice because we really enjoyed our breakfast choices during our first visit!) The wait was long on Saturday - it is obviously a local favorite. Because the menu options were hearty and healthy we stuck around, and it was worth the wait. (I hope during the week they can handle the crowd a bit better.) Rybread is simple and small, but makes up for that with its fantastic menu. On day one I had the Meat Quiche and a Breakfast Smoothie. On day two I got the Veggie Quiche. Honestly, I could eat those quiches every day. If you're a local or simply visiting and looking for a healthy meal or snack, I would totally recommend stopping at Rybread!

Yelp
Rybread is a wonderful staple in the Fairmount neighborhood! I ordered online for curbside pickup and my order was ready in just a few minutes. The menu had a lot of variety and there were so many ways to customize a sandwich - cheeses, meats, spreads... even how much you wanted your bagel toasted! It took all my restraint not to order the cupcakes, ice cream and cookies! For my weekend breakfast, I went with an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese, tomato and spinach, along with an iced coffee. The bagel was delicious, it had the perfect amount of cream cheese and was toasted exactly how much I asked for! The coffee was a great brew. I definitely want to try the cold brew next time! I have a feeling I will become a regular here and try the rest of the menu!

Yelp
I had lunch here today with a friend. It was my first time sitting in the restaurant to eat. (Several years ago, someone I worked with ordered take out and I had the crab cake sandwich. It was delicious. This time I had the ham and tomato quiche which was DELICIOUS! It was a generous and filling portion. My friend had the Kingston which she enjoyed as much as I enjoyed the quiche. The young person that took our order was patient with me as I couldn't decide which of the two quiche types I wanted. When our order was ready, they were very kind and brought it to our table. Unfortunately, I was comfortably full when I was finished so I didn't get dessert. --- But the cupcakes looked wonderful. The next time I come here will be for a cupcake.

Jenn M.

Yelp
My friends and I love the Austin salad. It's consistently delicious. I have no complaints about the rest of the menu, but Austin salad is our favorite.

Susannah R.

Yelp
The Portland panini is one of the best veggie sandwiches I've had -- albeit veryyyy messy! I think the prices are fair but slightly expensive because it really is a takeout place, unless you want to share a communal table or it's nice enough to eat outside.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
Cute little spot in brewerytown! There's more seating inside than you think, this place can easily fit a large group. Plenty of delicious sandwich options and a huge variety of beer to pair it with. I had the Banh Mi which was a good bite. A little sweet for my taste but still pretty good. Check it out!
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
This is my weekend staple. Absolutely love the New York Panini...I always say I want to branch out, but that panini is so good that I order it almost every time. Also strongly recommend their milkshakes/smoothies!!
google avatar

Jon H.

Yelp
Rybread has good food, but they have instituted an asinine system of making online orders stand in line with everyone who is ordering regularly. The last 3 times I have been here, I have had to wait 15-20 minutes to be able to walk over and grab the food that was sitting next to the register that I already paid for half an hour earlier. If they want to keep business, they need a better system.

Yelp
This was a cozy little spot in Fairmount! Great place to bring work or a book and relax. Their menu is full of different sandwiches, soups, and salads. I have tried most options from here, and all of them are delicious. Ideal breakfast spot for dine-in or takeout.

Tara F.

Yelp
My favorite sandwich spot in Fairmount! I'm all about their Cuban sandwich... it's fire. I've had other things on the menu as well... smoothies and chips are great there too. Give this place a try if you're looking for a quick tasty meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Neighborhood gem! Been coming here for a little over five years, enjoy it every time!!! We have tried a little bit of everything from their menu. But one of our absolute favorites is the Austin salad!!! It has the perfect blend of veggies, flavor from the dressing, salsa and sour cream, and crisp tortilla chip strips!!! Perfect when you're looking for a lighter option since it's still so filing! Not to mention perfect for summer. My boyfriend has enjoyed the Choco Peanut butter smoothie and a breakfast sandwich for breakfast on a few occasions, whereas I have enjoyed a scone or muffin. We have also enjoyed most of the sandwiches on the menu. They also give you the option to add (huge!) cookies and delicious chips to your order! They also sell Harpers ice cream and assorted beverages that one can add to their meal. We usually order ahead and pick up on the way home for dinner or late lunch. Thankful for this spot! Helped us in pinch so many times!
google avatar

Grasielle C.

Yelp
5 stars for the fact that their hours are 7-7, I love going to a cafe after work but cafes are usually closed; not Rybread! Not to MENTION their food is very tasty! I'd be lying if I said I didn't come here more than once a day: once for a coffee and another time when I go out for a late lunch! Love this place
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
Okay this place is awesome, especially when you are tired of overpriced underwhelming bagels and sandwiches in the city. I've tried their customized bagel sammies and paninis and both are great. I have yet to try a dessert but I've got my eye on the enormous cupcakes behind the glass display. Will be back again and again!

Yelp
Went to Rybread for the first time yesterday afternoon. I had heard about this resturant from one of my entrepreneurship classes I was in, the owner of this establishment had came in to talk about her story as an entrepreneur and all the struggles she went through in the business. I thought the resturant sounded awesome and her story was amazing so I thought I would try it out! My friend and I stopped in around noon yesterday. We both got iced coffees and we decided to split the buffalo chicken panini on chibbata bread. The panini had Gorgonzola cheese, mozzarella cheese, shredded buffalo chicken and shredded carrots. I thought it was awesome! Was the perfect amount of food for a light lunch for my friend and I. We weren't too too hungry but we did want something little to hold us over. I loved everything about the panini besides the fact that there was Gorgonzola cheese on it; but that was my bad because I had forgotten to ask them to not put any on there. I also got a brownie which was very delicious as well! Besides that, everything at Ryebread was great! The coffee was fresh, the atmosphere was cool and friendly, as were the employees and the resturant was impeccably clean! I really enjoyed my experience here and my friend Lex did as well! I will definitely be returning in the near future very soon!

Yelp
I work next door to Rybread and my office orders/eats from the store daily. I ordered a make-your-own sandwich and requested a very light serving of mayo and Dijon mustard. I was VERY specific about differentiating between a lite (calorie) and a lite spreading. The cashier nodded in understanding. Also, I asked for extra pineapple. I hungrily bit into a bunch of mustard and mayo. It was so overwhelming I began to cough and had to spit it out. I calmly returned and explained. someone from the back took the sandwich, dissected it, and proceeded to tell me that it was made off my specifics but the dispenser has a predetermined about so despite my specifications, their predetermined machines have the say. (I guess its machines and not people with utensils) made correctly and handed it back to me. I asked to remake the sandwich but I was told I would have to pay for a new sandwich due to, staff training, product weights, and employee time. So she slid the discombobulated sandwich across the counter, pushed her glasses on her face, and looked at me blankly! WTH?!?! So not only am I hungry but I'm still trying to soothe the tingle in the back of my through that was left behind from a mouthful of Dijon mustard.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood. I've tried to like this place many times. I just don't. My bacon egg and cheese about 9$ .. 2 lousy strips of bacon which were tasteless I don't even know how that happens and they were yellow in color which is even weirder. The sandwich was poorly constructed. Eggs looked grey. The worst part about the place is if you step foot in here for 1 minute you leave smelling like the food.. maybe they don't have proper ventilation in the place ... but don't plan to go anywhere in the same clothes after entering that building. I don't recommend.

Matthew D.

Yelp
If you're fine with the slowest service that you could possibly imagine and prior to that, they overcharge you about 20%, then that's the only reason you should give this establishment a portion of your biweekly paycheck.
google avatar

Katie R.

Yelp
This is a neighborhood go-to. I always get the veggie buffalo (I love that you can sub buffalo cauliflower for chicken) or a simple egg and cheese bagel. Everything is always fresh and the staff is so friendly!
google avatar

Maryah W.

Yelp
I needed a quick breakfast sandwich and this place is one of the earlier morning breakfast places that opens at 7 am in the area. The bagel was pretty good BUT they over did it on the cream cheese and there wasn't a lot of salmon on the bagel
google avatar

Katheryn M.

Yelp
My friend and I had some time to kill so we decided to come for a little bite! I ended up really liking it. It's a cute little place with a good variety. Also their baked goods.... yummy! My friend got an English breakfast tea with a carrot cake cupcake, I got their green machine (really recommend) with their cinnamon apple scone(also super tasty + fluffy!) I would definitely go again & try something savory! Definitely Recommend!

Casey K.

Yelp
I really like the sandwiches here, but the staff act like every request is the biggest inconvenience of their day!

Joseph B.

Yelp
If we establish a pick-up time please don't jump ahead. Also, napkins. Other than that the place is exceptional.
google avatar

Setu J.

Yelp
Nice spot in Fairmount Ave. I had Cuban panini and plain bagel with veg cheese spread. Both were nice. Probably be my go to bagel spot in town. Staff were friendly and the menu was extensive with plenty of sandwiches and panini choice. The price is right and the panini was filling.

Yelp
I'm not sure if I was really hungover or this food was just really good but I thoroughly enjoyed my sandwich and coffee from Rybread! I got the Santa Monica which is a BLT with egg avocado and mayo. The bread was warm and soft and the flavors of the sandwich along with the runny egg were the perfect combo. My boyfriend got the Cuban which he also enjoyed. If you are dining in you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Food took a little bit long to come out but it was obviously because everything is made fresh. I would have waited even longer for how good this sandwich was lol!! There's a decent sized seating area here including a few tables, community table, and outdoor seating. They also have free WiFi avail if you are coming to do work! Noticed that they had a dog bowl of water outside for the pups which is a nice touch. We were just visiting the area for the weekend but will deff come back to Rybread when we're around again!

Yelp
Went on Saturday afternoon for their lovely salads and amazing ice tea. My wife had thai salad and i had Austin salad. The portions were very good and unlike other salad places the meat quantity was surprisingly sufficient. The salads came in togo boxes. So u eat how much ever uou can and take home rest. They have outdoor seating in front and behind. The back outdoor seating was not very impressove and we got luck to get a place in front (only 3 tables in the frnt). My wife tried their mint and i had mango tea. The tea was very refreshing. Overall, i recommed this place and advice to come early as the place is small and generally has a wait for seating. Note:they are going to move soon. Read the paper notice.

Ryan J.

Yelp
A nice breakfast spot with above average coffee. The menu has a wide selection and the coffee & honey smoothie is a good way to start the day.

Yelp
Oh my god this place is fantastic. Absolutely delicious food for super reasonable prices, a really nice atmosphere, and super friendly staff. Its the perfect little place for breakfast or lunch.

Joan B.

Yelp
A couple weeks overdue, but better late than never! What a nice surprise! Been wanting to try this local spot for some time now. Finally, got take out for dinner. 2 different salads, both very nice size portions and delicious! Staff was extremely friendly! Great neighborhood spot!!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a little bit of a walk from me - but I really like it. It's known for their city-named sandwiches, which are a lot of fun to be honest. I got the San Diego, which was piled high with meat, warm, crispy, and left me coming back for more. There is some spaces to work here, but it seems like it fills up pretty quickly. The prices are reasonable, the employees are friendly, and its a great neighborhood lunch spot. It's definitely a local favorite.

Yelp
I'm always on the lookout for good breakfast spots so I decided stop in for coffee, scones and breakfast sandwhiches. The staff was really friendly and I could tell they were providing service with a smile despite the masks. I got the blueberry scone, chocolate chip scone, bacon and cheese on a croissant and sausage egg and cheese on brioche. The breakfast sandwhiches were good (its hard to mess that up) but the scones were a bit dry. The coffee also seemed a tad on the weak side and tasted like tea had been previously brewed in it at some point. I hope to come back soon to try the quiche because the types available sounded interesting, but in terms of what I had today it was just ok.

Morgyn A.

Yelp
Food is ok but customer service is poor. Messed up my online order and charged me entire new meal instead of just fixing the order. Bad business, won't be returning.
google avatar

Burp M.

Yelp
Sandwiches are amazing as always. I visit the store regularly but...... I Just tried their vegan whoopie pie for the very first time, oh my.. what a mistake. They've been doing so well in the baking department, their scones and muffins, and cupcakes are all irresistible. However, that wacky whoopie pie tastes fishy and has a metallic flavor. The middle vegan cream part is just extreme sugary. I am very sad that they have this on the shelf. Stay away from that vegan whoopie pie and you will have a great experience at Rybread.
google avatar

Justin B.

Yelp
I haven't been to the new location yet. The old one was awesome. It also was in an area where there is very little. So it's a little disappointing it moved. However I don't live over there anymore so what do I care? I'm sure it's better for the business. The sandwich's are really awesome.

Yelp
Fast becoming a Rybread enthusiast. They've been in their new location three or four weeks, and I've already incorporated it into my Friday WFH routine. I've tried a variety of their geographic dubbed sandwiches/paninis - my go-to's are the Tucson (roasted turkey) and Napa (fresh motz, add prosciutto). You also can't go wrong with the classic Santa Monica (BLT, add avocado). Breads/meats/cheeses are fresh, prices are reasonable, and the establishment has a trendy vibe.
