Bend, Oregon’s Best New Restaurants: Spring 2025 | Eater Portland

"Although located In Bend’s outlet mall, Ryoshi Sushi and Izakaya is more than a bite for a shopping break. It’s worth seeking out sushi at lunch or dinner. Non-sushi eaters can enjoy Japanese bento boxes, yakitori skewers, and other cooked fare. However, the spotlight is on sushi, particularly the seasonal fish flown in from Japan and listed on the specials board, like black rockfish, scorpion fish, or Japanese uni. Along with an exhaustive list of sashimi and nigiri, signature rolls go beyond the typical run-of-the-mill combinations. Take the pressed box style (no seaweed) Ryoshi Roll topped with seared and raw salmon, mild jalapeños, avocado, and masago. Their house-made soy sauce with added spices and sweetness and garlic edamame add flavorful twists and are best enjoyed alongside their extensive selection of sake and sake cocktails." - Barb Gonzalez

Two very skilled chefs were preparing all the orders in the open kitchen at incredible speed. It was a bit disappointing that they pre-sliced the sushi fish to cope with the rush of customers. However, as soon as an order came in, they would shape the rice by hand and make the nigiri on the spot. One chef focused solely on making rolls. Upon seating, guests were served grilled fish head as a complimentary appetizer, which was delicious. The taste suggested that the chefs had trained at an authentic, traditional Japanese restaurant. The quality of the rice was excellent, but the sushi vinegar could have been slightly more pronounced. Before leaving Bend, I plan to return to try other sushi dishes. This place could set a new benchmark for those looking to experience sushi that closely resembles traditional flavors. I ordered an eel roll this time but intend to try the salmon tower next. After having the standard nigiri set, I ended my meal by ordering additional pieces of the most flavorful sushi. Next time, I’m planning to order the Premium Sushi Set.

My husband and I had a great experience here! The sushi was very tasty and fresh, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the quality was notable. One huge highlight for us- in addition to the the excellent flavors, the sushi stayed in roll form while dipping in soy sauce with chopsticks. Well done everyone, we will make this a regular date night! Yum! We had the spider roll, rainbow roll, hamachi roll, unagi roll, miso soup, 2 large Sapporo's, 2 large hot saki's- all just under $100 before tip. Amazing! 🍣🍶🍻🍜🇯🇵😋

Google
If you haven't been yet, you're missing out. I cannot say enough good things about this place. The fish is so good. Everything is amazing. I could eat a sunset roll every day and their special soy sauce is the best I've ever had. Highly recommend.

Google
This place is wonderful. Our server was named Sam he was helpful and polite and carried a smile on his face. The food was 10/10. We recommend the Ryoshi roll, the Sunset roll, gyoza for appetizer had the spicy tuna roll and a crab and Eel Nigiri. The food was incredible. The taste was amazing and definitely worth coming back.

Google
I wish this tasted as good as it looks. Presentation was A+ - plating, garnish, even the chop sticks are gorgeous. But the sushi itself left quite a bit to be desired. BE WARNED - when it says “cheese” on a sushi roll, it means Kraft Single. Yes, American cheese on sushi. 😅 We hoped it was cream cheese but we’re truly shocked and sorely disappointed. The cucumber salad was essentially thick cut cucumber slices with zero added flavor. The spicy tuna is also ground into basically a paste. “Tempura” here is a bit more like deep fried. Worth getting: Tuna Tower, Sunset, and the Sapporo on draft. …and we got a LOT of different things. Hope this place can improve over time.

Google
I had a table reserved, but when I arrived it was still being used. I ended up standing around for nearly 10 minutes while staff cleared it off—for just me and my partner. Honestly, not sure what the point of a reservation is if you still have to wait. The signature rolls are definitely on the pricey side for Bend. At most other sushi spots in town, rolls usually run $15–$19. Here, they start at $18–$22, which I wouldn’t mind if the portions were bigger. Unfortunately, what we got were some pretty small rolls—so be prepared to pay more for less. We were trying to enjoy ourselves, but the servers kept coming over and asking if we needed anything else or if we were finished. In the span of about 10 minutes, we were asked four times, which felt more pushy than attentive. On the bright side, the draft Sapporo was solid, and our (tiny) rolls came out quickly.

Google
It's great to have a good sushi restaurant in the south end of Bend again. A bit pricey for sushi but the pieces of fish are large and good quality. The vegetable tempura is good and the specialty roll we ate (Sunset Roll) was fun and different. Not the greatest sushi we've ever had but it certainly satisfied our sushi cravings. Definitely will go back again.

Google
Get the sunset roll! Best roll I’ve ever had. Everything was PHENOMENAL! And their hand rolls are authentic (not the Americanized cone), with super fresh fish! Some is even imported from Japan! We added a quail egg and it was wonderful. Miso soup was fabulous, toasted rice in the green tea, also the mochi green tea ice cream. Excellent all around, service people were super sweet and attentive too.

Yelp
It's located right behind the Columbia Outlet store. I was hesitant to stick around based on the wait time of 45 minutes...but I'm sooo glad I did! They were definitely packed and could've used more help. We were with another couple so we didn't mind as we were not in a hurry. Our server was really nice and didn't rush us. I ordered the salmon tower and there was sooooo much salmon! Everything was so fresh and flavorful. They have so many unique options to choose from. They don't skimp! I feels very authentic and comfortable inside.

Yelp
I was disappointed. I'd heard good things about this restaurant. Let's start with the service. The servers were pleasant, friendly and efficient. The seaweed salad was good and a good value. We ordered 2 rolls ($19 each) and vegetable tempura. Rather than the fried crust being light and fluffy, the tempura was more like a McDonalds deep- fried version of tempura. The surface was dark (probably old oil) and clung like McNugget to the vegetable. We ordered the wrong rolls. Rather than light and fresh, they both had been fried or rolled in fried batter, and we now know the fried food here is not good. Other than the seaweed salad, we did not finish any of the three other things we ordered. The people seem nice and I always wish the best for small business. However, we will not go back. Sad.

Yelp
Sushi quality was really good and the price reflect it! The salmon & Ikura bowl was good however, for $45, you would think they would give you a little more Ikura. The scallop carpaccio was phenomenal! The nigiri were really good grade sushi and flavor, however, be ready to pay a heavty price. Good place for date night, girls night, or family night. We got there around 5pm when it was not so packed but it got busy quick, even for a Thursday night. They have a wide variety of alcohol drinks. Service was good. Private parking lot, next to the outlets.

Yelp
Ordered one of the lunch specials. High quality fish, great sushi, nice atmosphere. Servers were attentive, kind, and friendly.

Yelp
Ryoshi is one of two new(ish) Japanese places in town, the other being Yokocho Izakaya, which I haven't tried yet. It joins quite a few fine sushi places already established here in Bend. Based on social media, Ryoshi seems to have been favorably received by local foodies. - Very nice ambiance with comfortable seating. Ryoshi certainly has fitted the space out much better than previous tenants (Wild Oregon Foods, for example). This is a restaurant where you can have a pleasant dinner chatting with friends. - Service is efficient, polite, friendly. Our food arrived very soon after ordering. - Food: Sushi cuts are very good. We had salmon, tuna, mackerel and two off the specials board. I won't get into whether the fish is 'fresh' (an overused term on Yelp) - they all seemed fine to me. Hamachi roll was also quite fine, not too much sauce or seasoning, rice was cooked properly. Edamame appetizer was perfectly done. - Drinks: plenty of choices including cocktails, sake and a few beers. Plus NA drinks. If you're here to drink and eat izakaya-style, you probably won't be disappointed. Didn't notice any wine. - Prices are probably what you expect these days. All in all, a good addition to Bend's dining scene. The only minor negative was the grill portion of the menu - already maybe not the most expansive of the izakayas I've been to - had numerous selections blacked out (unavailable). Still, plenty of good choices were offered there and in other menu sections, including quite a few fish 'specials' on the board near the sushi bar.

Yelp
Definitely a wonderful experience when I was in mood for good sushi / sashimi and rolls. I went with Yelp recommendations and it didn't disappoint! Everything I tried was great and I will update this review again after the next visit. This was the same experience for delivery as well.

Yelp
Loved the fish here! The sushi tasted fresh and the menu has a great selection of Japanese food like sukiyaki, yakitori, nigiri and even sushi rolls. My partner and I shared the Kaisen Bowl that was topped with a fresh salmon, tuna, uni, and salmon ikura! The karaage was juicy, crispy, and flavorful. Creamy scallop handroll was one of my favorites - can't wait to try out the other handrolls. The ambience is casual and elevated (at least to me.) I liked how they play modern j music cause it added to the vibes. Really looking forward to trying out the rest of the menu!
google avatar

Peyton N.

Yelp
This is my fav sushi in Bend - we come almost once a week... whatever you're doing, keep doing it!! Vibes are good and food is quick and yummy. Favs are creamy scallop hand roll, sunset roll, ryoshi roll, and the gyoza is FAB!

Branden G.

Yelp
Very nice inside, clean and good ambiance however the service was definitely lacking. It took 20 minutes to get the garlic edamame (and it was basic at best) and took 30 minutes to get California rolls for the kids. I wouldn't complain if the restaurant was packed, but there were 3 sushi chefs, 1 person at the sushi bar and less than 1/2 the restaurant full. Our server never even checked in on us. I wouldn't complain definitely not recommend as there are plenty of other spots to try.

Yelp
Came here on a Wednesday night. Decor inside is nice, bar table that allows you to see the sushi chefs. Exterior lantern says ramen but no ramen on the menu... Sushi: we had the box set, rainbow and sunset roll and tuna roll. The quality of the fish is not good. Most every fish we tasted had sinew that made it tough to chew. Combo of bad quality fish and cut of the fish. The sunset roll crispy rice was good but had strands of saffron on it, quite a bit on it which makes me question if these are synthetic saffron and what's the sourcing for them? When server describing the nigiri set, do not need to point and touch the box/plates. Point in the air only. While I appreciate the thick cut of fish, sourcing of fish is not good.
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Not really an Izakaya. Definitely not the vibe of Izakayas I've been to in the past. If you're going to serve sushi, better get the rice right. It was overcooked and mushy. A bunch of menu items are redacted with black sharpie. Rolls are generic and heavily sauced. Soy sauce on the table is mixed with sugar and mirin. Very odd.

Yelp
I've been here 4 times already and find myself craving it! Very fresh and delicious. Nice friendly atmosphere, amazing sushi and great service.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
Food was seriously bad each item had its problems. Service was ok I guess as they were busy but just seemed like they didn't care at all after our food was served. We actually had 2 apps but forgot to take a pic of the vegetable tempura that was soggy soaked in grease. Rolls were just bad period in all areas
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Fresh fish, beautifully plated, absolutely delicious. Can't wait to come back! Staff was pleasant. Drinks are also prettt good
google avatar

Salena B.

Yelp
Fantastic place! The atmosphere, service, menu, and food are outstanding. This is not only my favorite place to get Japanese. It might just be the best restaurant in town.

Dale Y.

Yelp
Great service and the food was amazing. If you love sushi Ryoshi is can't miss and will not disappoint.
google avatar

Drew C.

Yelp
I've taken my wife and kids here multiple times and continue to love it. We've had most everything on the menu and usually try some of the fresh fish flown in from Japan. Food, service, and ambiance all hit high marks for me. Tonight, we tried the Sunrise and Sunset rolls along with sashimi and hand rolls. Omg it's all delicious!
google avatar

Sylvia L.

Yelp
Had the -hamachi carpaccio which came dressed with microgreens sitting on a bed of julienned onions dressed in ponzu???? 4.5/5 -gyoza was crunchy and the wrap was nice, thin and moist 5/5 -spicy tuna hand roll nice ratio of fish to rice- felt like could be a bit spicier? 4.5/5 -garlic edamame had the perfect blend of black pepper and garlic 5/5 -negihama hand roll also had nice ratio of green onion and hamachi Only reason why i dont give it a 5 is for ambience. Solid in price and quality would recommend but maybe not for date night
google avatar

Caryn W.

Yelp
What a wonderful experience! We weren't too hungry and it was after 7pm so we were looking for a light meal. We were welcomed by gracious hosts. The presentation is beautiful, great flavor and we were told by a staff member that the fish is flown in from Japan almost daily. We recommend this place! We will return!

Juliet M.

Yelp
The best sushi we've had since moving here in 2021. Easy parking, great seating spaces. Will be our go-to date-night spot. Has a full bar.
google avatar

M. Kathleen D.

Yelp
Delicious sushi, nigiri and gyoza. Pleasant and knowledgeable staff. Comfortable dining space.
google avatar

Alfred S.

Yelp
Hamachi carpaccio sliced too thick! Edamame was not very good. Roles were not subtle. Over the top in size and ingredients. Too many sauces and use of cheese! Tuna Tower, a towering mess! American sushi! Certainly not Japanese Sushi. Absent artistry of sushi! Let them eat cake!!!

Hiroshi O.

Yelp
My friends and I ordered just three signature rolls, and either they did not place the order or lost our order three separate times. Took over 1 hour and 20 minutes to get three rolls. Ridiculous.
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
The Otoro is amazing, and the Sunset Roll is unlike anything I've ever seen in Central Oregon! This was a well needed restaurant that is definitely the Best Sushi in Bend Oregon!! We ordered 3 different times because it was so good we kept wanting MORE!!
google avatar

Iman S.

Yelp
Very good service, the miso soup was delicious. I really liked the roll I got - it was the Ryoshi roll. Looking forward to going back.
google avatar

Yelp
Went for lunch on Sunday. The service was kind and prompt, and the restaurant is nice and clean. Food was at our table fast. The salmon tower was sosososososo good! Also had the garlic edamame. YUMM The Ryoshi roll was melt in your mouth delicious too! Can't wait to go back. Glad we tried a new place.
google avatar

Vi Z.

Yelp
We got to try out RYOSHI SUSHI ISAKAYA on Friday night. Food was delicious, and drinks were good. Staff was very attentive, even though they were quite busy. Can't wait to try again. We ordered the garlic edamame, rainbow rolls, and the sunset roll. Everything was perfect.

Gen G.

Yelp
Not impressed. I ordered the Chirashi bowl and the fish that they gave you with it was the size of fingernails. I've ordered Chirashi Bowls all around Seattle and Portland and the pieces given was sashimi size. These pieces were even smaller than all of the poke bowls I've eaten. The toppings were good though and so was the fish. Left there hungry for a $45.00 entree plus a 9.00 tip. Definitely not coming back.
google avatar

Bryan P.

Yelp
The food was on point! The rolls were great and the chicken delightful great addition to south bend!!! Must try A++++

Nicole W.

Yelp
Amazing sushi! Staff was friendly and the place is so cute!! Can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
Amazing food, great service... show was entertaining. Mar & Emilio were both superb! Coming from NY.... This is some place that shouldn't be missed!

Yelp
Great sushi, great price, great service, great vibes! I'd say the best place in Bend for sushi!

Laurel G.

Yelp
Best sushi in Bend! Tasty food, clean restaurant and excellent service! Highly recommend!

John M.

Yelp
Moved from out of state and have been looking for our new go-to sushi spot. I'm happy to say, this is it. Our first order was a takeout order, but man was it good. I was greeted by a very friendly host and promptly handed me the order. The rolls were absolutely incredible, especially the Ryoshi. The miso soup was tasty as well. Do not hesitate to try this place! Can't wait to dine in and try some of their fresh fish.

Mose L.

Yelp
Ryoshi Sushi Izakaya is a rare find. One of those gems people brag for years about finding and are afraid to tell people about in fear that it'll tirn into a reservations only place thats hard to get into. The fish is brought in fresh, twice a week from Japan and their chalk board of fresh fish changes as some types sell out and are replaced by others. The staff is super nice and attentive, knowledgeable about all things they serve and even took time to tell stories about their traditins around sukiyaki (and they have excellent sukyaki) during the Lunar New Year. Theyve only been in Bend for a month and a half and they have to stick around. Please come support Ryoshi Sushi Ramen! How about, like, tomorrow night??

Caitlin F.

Yelp
The best sushi I've had in years! They have fresh fish shipped in from Japan twice a week and it was divine!!!!! Also, try the sukiyaki beef or veggie nabe hot pot. 10 out of 10!

Tracy Y.

Yelp
While the location is a little odd, the moment you walk in, you are pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and the service. I was super pleased to see the place was very busy on a Wednesday night. No one wants to eat sushi from a place with no customers! The sushi was fresh and delish! Go on Wednesday, it's when they get their fresh fish order each week. I had the Original box ($45), 9-nigiri and a roll. It's a chef's pick. The nigiri has nice and small rice pads, so you're not filling up on rice. I later learned I could have substituted the tamago, not a fan. The lavender jobfish was outstanding, and not something I would have thought to order. They do sell out of this particular option. I highly recommend! The service was attentive, patient, and courteous. Price point: $$$, not budget sushi, but not the most expensive I've had!

Reagan B.

Yelp
I love this place! It's a cute, cozy vibe. Their mochi is some of the best I've ever had! They have great, fast service! I highly recommend!

Emann M.

Yelp
It was okay but definitely have had better in bend. Chicken karrage was over cooked, one of the rolls had raw fish eggs added to it without being on the menu and the wife is pregnant so she couldn't eat her roll

Charles B.

Yelp
Don't, just don't. The service was good but the sushi left much to be desired. I ordered the Sunset Roll. What I was served appeared to be 5 five tiny Gortens fish sticks with some coleslaw on top. Absolutely horrific. I sent it back and ordered a spicy tuna roll. And it was equally as bad. There are WAY better places for sushi in Bend

Danny T.

Yelp
Hidden gem. People like Jen also make this place amazing! From the apps to the entrees nothing disappointed. We will be back!

Kathy H.

Yelp
The fish!!! It comes from Japan so please expect higher prices. But for me, it's well worth it. They try hard to please, waiters are very nice, and I love those chairs at the sushi bar! Nigiri sushi wa oishi desu. ( nigiri sushi is delish)

Remy C.

Yelp
If you haven't found this amazing restaurant yet, you are in for a treat. The service is excellent, but the food is even better. Love their special soy sauce and everything from the tempura to the sushi is fresh and delicious. I especially love their recommendations. Our server even explained the best way to enjoy their sushi boxes with a progression of flavors. Will be back again and again!

S B.

Yelp
Amazing sushi and super fresh fish flown in from Japan and Hawaii. The staff are knowledgeable and will eagerly share photos of the week's best fish before they are sliced up, and make great recommendations. They've done a beautiful job with the interior as well. We are sushi SNOBS and this place is our new favorite.

Yelp
I had bad luck with this restaurant. The ambiance was hectic at the counter. The waitresses were leaving piles of dishes at the end of the counter next to me until they were cleared later. There were continual loud debates between the waitresses and Chefs at the counter. After I ordered simply Classic tuna and salmon rolls, and a tuna handroll, I WAITED 1 HOUR for my meal to arrive while I watched the people around me who came in after me receive their more complicated orders before me. Idid ask other waitresses about my order and they said they would ask my waitress. A person next to me even offered me some of their order whileI I waited (I thanked them but declined). It turned out the waitress forgot about me! The Chef and another waiter who didnt serve me apologized! The rolls tasted fresh but the handroll had only the tuna and rice which is not complete, and some pieces of the rolls had 1/4 the amount of tuna than the rest. My experience was a bummer.

Christine B.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing! Everything we had ( and we shared a ton) was fresh and delicious. Service was great and the ambiance very calming. I am guessing anything you order will be top notch!

Brittany T.

Yelp
This place was so good! Amazing and friendly customer service. The sushi was some of the best sushi we have ever had!

Judith C.

Yelp
Amazing prompt sevice and wonderful atmosphere. Very fresh fish used in suishi. Best bento box in Bend. Plenty of parking too. A most try.

Nona N.

Yelp
We went last night for the first time. Everything from ambience, wait staff, food and drinks was excellent. This will definitely be our go to sushi spot!
