"More Bellevue opening news. This time the newsmaker is a major supermarket chain that has literally big plans for its first U.S. location, slated to open next year. The store will be 76,000 square feet, and as we wrote in June, 'Uwajimaya is 60,000 square feet, so picture an Uwajimaya with a quarter of an Uwajimaya attached to it, then another little bit of Uwajimaya.'" - Harry Cheadle

This is THE Asian grocery store you should shop from. I am always amazed by the kind of items I can find there, almost like a treasure hunt. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The price is very reasonable, and they constantly have things on sale which make the price even more affordable. Why bother waiting in line outside for hours just to get into a Canadian store and paying premium price for most of the things?

Google
I have mixed reviews here. Overall I’d give 3.5*. The store does not have a pleasingly inviting appearance. Yet not terribly. Grocery isles are more spacious than many other Asian grocery stores. While cardboard boxes cluttering, customers still able to shop around. But the fresh veggies section is the least pleasant in this store. Items look messy, disorganized and badly sorted. Walkways are narrow and cluttered. Food quality on many items are subpar. I would say that the overall prices are a bit lower than other Asian stores in the area. Make sure you wear a good jacket if you shop here during a winter day. The temperature inside the store is pretty close to outdoors.

Wide variety of internationally sourced treats and grocery products in an accessible community-oriented retail format. You can buy organics in a specified section. Staff have deep level knowledge to locate their inventory. Be on the lookout for special sales and promotional value deals!

Google
this place is a perfect example of “do not judge a book by its cover”: No fancy store front or lights, just high quality, fresh, affordable asian groceries that you can trust and buy everyday. The hard working staff is just like your uncles and aunties in your asian neighbourhood.

Mostly Asian no frills warehouse style supermart. Portfolio of Taiwan China HK Korea Japan and some South East Asia products. interestingly, a Lithuanian supplier provides them with east European products.

Google
Warehouse style Asian grocery. Great deals here for seasonings, frozen food and seasonings. Wish they have more vegetable options. Not crowded on weekends.

Google
I gave them an extra 3rd star just coz I saw the owner couple is hardworking. Now comes the negative part - First glance of the store looks cheap place/ poor/dirty/unorganized/dull/poor lighting. They have a lot of cardboard box here & there . Staff is not much to refill the shelves or remove empty cardboard boxes. Rotten fruits& veggies should be removed promptly from the shelves. I thought it's going to be cheaper than H-Mart in Bellevue downtown but sadly NO. I could only buy one or 2 sale items, Vegetables were as comparable to any other grocery store but not cheaper. Coming all the way to Newport hills is not worth it. I came to buy only their advertised specials. I found-Ginger, garlic, cilantro, tomatoes, bananas, opo squash etc were not cheaper here . Example, If you buy fresh fruits & vegetables from neighborhood walmart , then you won't come here unless there's a very specific asian item you are looking for. Most products didn't have an expiry date printed on it . Shelf tags prices were absent for most products. There's a lot of improvements they could work on. Ending positive note- If you live in Newport hills you can imagine coming here bi-weekly, or if you live in factoria you can come here once in a month.

Google
Very good selection of Asian groceries for an affordable price, especially on the Eastside!

Yelp
I used to shop here and loved shopping here for over 6 years. Unfortunately a few months ago I had a very unpleasant experience with one of the cashiers. I had to stop coming here due to the emotional distress this caused me. The manager was also not very apologetic for how his cashier behaved. I was treated poorly, lied to, and discriminated against. As a paying customer you should never be treated poorly. I will not go into detail as it causes me distress and I just want people to know to avoid this store. Go to H mart they treat you much better. All of the bad reviews here are about the way the employees treat you. Just not worth it to stop by. Avoid this store if you care about where your money goes and care about your mental health. I am still deeply saddened by my poor experience here after being such a loyal customer for years. I will neverrrrr and have not returned.

Yelp
Love this spot. Its larger than a lot of other asian stores (not as big as Uwajimaya, but bigger than an HMart?) a little messy but it's nice having a store in this part of Bellevue with a lot of parking. They have a lot of things I sometimes can't find in other places. Beware of expiration dates though, sometimes they accidentally sell them past due. Fair prices as well.

Amanda T.

Yelp
They have the usual Asian Mart, Staples, however, produce is not as fresh as uwaijimaya and H Mart. I continue going here because close to my home and there's enough options of dried goods. They are cheaper than regular grocery store.

Kim Y.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and it was really good experience. It's been around for 5 years. How could I miss that? Got some veggies (much better quality than the one that's by factoria mall). They have quite a selection and I was surprised at their selection of non-chinese food. Someone helped us find our items and they were friendly. Also, I saw people cleaning up and taking pride of how their store looked - which was great! Parking lot was in need of new paint to distinguish the lines but it's in a small plaza and you can smell char burgers next door. Little little joint! Will be back for more now that I know you exist

Yelp
The line to pay is always too long because there's only one overworked cashier every time I go. The prices no longer makes it feel like a good deal to shop there. The store also got dirtier and dirtier each time I go. I went there to buy rice out of necessity, but now I can buy rice at Walmart, so I'm glad I no longer need to go to S Mart.

Yann C.

Yelp
The cashiers work during the weekday do not greet customers and look very unhappy, giving the impression that customers owe them money. Their behaviors are not only unprofessional but also create a negative shopping experience. A warm greeting and a positive attitude can make a big difference in customer satisfaction. Besides, there are many boxes positioned throughout the aisles, which make it very hard to access merchandise at the bottom shelves. S mart definitely needs to provide a more pleasant shopping environment to customers. Two stars for their competitive food price in Bellevue.

Clinton T.

Yelp
Ok spot for picking up shelf stable and frozen goods. When I went in on a Saturday morning, the produce seemed a bit tired and limited. I'd return for any shelf stable or frozen goods as they have a wide selection of those.

Judy H.

Yelp
One of the cashers is rude when we were checking out food today. This lady seems always works on lane #1 & always in a bad mood. I don't know her name, but encountered her before, she was never happy, never say Hi to customers, never pack groceries for you. She was impatient with my using food stamp card first when my husband did all the packing for her. I asked her if they stop helping customers to pack groceries she said " Yes". We know this not true because the other lady works like all the cashers work in a grocery store- They help to pack food for customers. We've never been treated like this before. S-Mart is a good store, we come often and know their boss-a very nice gentleman. Other cashiers are sweet and work hard. This lady is an except. We are looking forward to seeing her change. Judy Wu

Yelp
Nice local neighborhood Asian grocery store so stop comparing it to ranch 99 or other large franchise Asian stores that are out there. Yes it's not the most high-end or fancy type of grocery store but it is typical for a local Asian store go to Rainier valley then you'll know what I mean. After rude cashiers it's sort of typical attitude of most Chinese it's not that they're rude it's just they're trying to be as efficient as possible and get you out the store as fast as possible, although sometimes they can be sort rude. Overall good local store like having it around and yes the produce is hit and miss but everything else they have a little of everything.

Jboogie L.

Yelp
Asian supermarket. Easy parking. Prices are alright and slightly inconvenient of a drive but nice to check out to see what options they have.

Grace W.

Yelp
Pretty good Asian Supermarket. It is like a hidden gem. The style of the building is very circa 1960s. It's as if you stepped back into time. The neighboring buildings are all this kind of design. It is kind of rare to see this architecture in Bellevue so I appreciated it. They have a good selection of fresh produce/vegetables. I liked this place because it was spacious and not crowded. It was all very organized. Staff were pleasant. The prices are very reasonable. My only comment is that I wish they had a bigger selection of meat. Their meat just looked kind of unappetizing and there was a very limited selection.

Sophia L.

Yelp
Just went to S-Mart for groceries shopping and I found the check out service is much worse than before. They don't bag your groceries anymore. So you need to bag yourself. This is fine if you only bought a few items, but when you have a cart load of groceries and there are other people right behind you to check out, it becomes a problem. I suggest the owner asks the cashier to help bag the groceries before checking out the next person.

Peter K.

Yelp
Prices are much lower than other Asian grocers nearby. No frills kind of place. There is not much of a meat or seafood selection. The vegetables are not nicely presented and the quality is also not the highest. I would come here for frozen, canned, or packaged foods.

C B.

Yelp
It was a nice surprise to find this place by accident. Didn't even know it existed. Inside is more like warehouse, but I don't mind at all. Bags of rice weee way cheaper than Uwajimaya. Good selection of Asian spices and dried noodles. Meat selection was a bit limited but good price. Similar to H mart, they have frozen sliced meat section too.

James P.

Yelp
Totally filthy and disgusting market. Store is dirty only one checker so line gets way backed up. Check stands are a total mess . Most of the product has no pricing on it.

N H.

Yelp
It's nice to have Asian supermarkets in the neighborhood but the lines at checkout always so long. Cashiers are not friendly. She put my item aside today and said cannot buy this one, new item, not in computer. So I said then manually put it in. She said don't know don't know, can't buy. WTH! The owners are nice though and I want to support them, but the people you hired are lacking customer service skills.

Jennifer J.

Yelp
This is a pretty cool little Asian grocery in an unexpected neighborhood. Luckily, it just happens to be near where I often stay while in town so it's super convenient to pick up groceries before I head home. What I like about S-Mart: quite possibly one of the best selections of frozen Asian-themed goods anywhere. Not to mention awesome prices. I got some incredible Chinese donuts (note to self: buy two packages next time), frozen dumplings, won tons, and soup bones. They also have a great selection of teas and canned goods, and a huge noodle aisle. What could use improvement: I was shocked at their lackluster selection of fresh meats and seafood. As in, there was very little to choose from. They did have a lot of frozen meat, but this is not the place to go if you're looking for fresh. Also, their produce department - while offering a wide variety - required many items to be purchased en masse. I needed for example, fresh ginger. While I love it and use it frequently, they only sold it in a large bag that I could not possibly have used before it went bad. Same for green onions and a few other items I needed. I'm basically just cooking for one now so my buying-in-bulk days are over. Their produce was also a bit pricey. Can you find what you're looking for here? Probably. But I was making pho and was a bit bummed that I had to hit up another Asian grocery on the way home to finish buying my ingredients. Still, I'll come back to S-Mart for frozen stuff!

Danny H.

Yelp
The grocery is family own old style ... So it mean great price. I go out of the way to come to SAVE. We can't find everything but get most of what we need.

Brad B.

Yelp
Nice to have an Asian market in the neighborhood. Pretty good selection of dry and canned items. Produce is hit or miss; last trip there most of produce looked very sad. Nice selection of frozen items, limited but expanding meats and seafood areas. Low staffing levels means you can wait sometimes for checkout, but staff is generally pleasant and helpful.

G r.

Yelp
Good price. Lots of variety. Plenty of parking and not overly crowded. I was able to get everything I needed plus some yummy snacks for my kids.

Thao N.

Yelp
Great, clean neighborhood supermarket, super tucked in the Newport Hills area. You won't miss it, it's one of the few businesses in this quiet neighborhood. Small compared to Uwajimaya or H-Mart, but it has all the essentials that you're looking for in an Asian market which I'm so grateful there's this option that's more low key & closer to home. Sometimes you just want to go grab those canned lychees & get home ASAP to eat them. Tell me about your experience if you've been here or is going to after reading this review:)

Clint W.

Yelp
This place is just getting started. The shelves are a bit sparse and the store isn't densely packed like a lot of the Asian markets. To be honest, that's probably a good thing. It's a boon to folks on the east side, that don't have anything like this and you can get products that they would either have to travel in Seattle or go north/south to find. I will also say that its fun just to walk about and down the aisles and find things that you aren't going to find at Whole Foods or things from your childhood.

Dana M.

Yelp
I just moved into the area and must say how much I love this store being so close. It's always fun to come in with my kids and let them chose fun treats to try... my husband also LOVED their guava.. I'm also glad they just started selling meats too.. this will soon be my one stop shop cause I hate Bellevue traffic and would rather pay convenience then take 20 min to drive a typical 4 min drive just to sit in traffic.

SASI B.

Yelp
EASTSIDE ASIAN MARKET WITH UNBEATABLE PRICE! They have Such a good selection of fresh veggies and fruits. Their prices are unreal too! 20lb bag is rice for LESS THAN $10. went here for the first time and definitely bought more than I thought i would. Found sooo many of my childhood snacks growing up in Thailand. It was AWESOME! If you live close by and don't want to go down to Renton or up to Bellevue-redmond or the unreasonably priced Uwajimaya, this is the place!

Khoo K.

Yelp
Love this store. Price is very reasonable and carry a wide variety of dry and frozen goods. Fresh selection has definitely improved and have the essentials. Some items have better price than in Seattle. I also like that they do not have a bad smell.

Cotton S.

Yelp
So it's been 3 months SMart has opened, there produce continues to be fresh and affordable. They just started stocking organic chicken, beef shank, pork belly and some European salted meats. We've shifted majority of groceries at SMart. The owner/manager is there every day, very approachable and tells us what's new and what's popular. Apparently there's going to be Deli this summer selling Hainan Chicken, cant wait. So glad there's a grocery store in the neighborhood, I hope they can make it for the long run.

Jo H.

Yelp
As always, trying to find new Asian spots on the eastside near Renton! This place is awesome. The meat selection is just okay in my opinion but the prices are generally lower than uwajimaya. I found my quick cook sukoyaka genmai brown rice here! I love stopping in to grab sauces or veggies.

Anant M.

Yelp
Messy. Cold dreary. Not impressed. Try one of the other stores Like Asian family mart it 99 Ranch.

Michael C.

Yelp
While it may be a little small, not as clean as other supermarkets, and not have the greatest selection, the prices are pretty competitive if you know what to buy. Most (if not all) the meats are frozen. The non Asian veggie selection sometimes isn't the freshest. I usually come on Sunday afternoons and it's also not crowded, which has been a huge perk during COVID.

Molly N.

Yelp
Nice and clean supermarket. Management should look to hire more cashiers though. Always a long wait to pay. Today, long line and cashier was no where to be found.

Heidi M.

Yelp
I was really excited when S-Mart opened. It is really close to where I live, their parking lot is never crowded, and they have a nice variety of items which are very fairly priced. Being able to find a product that I normally would have to drive clear to Uwajimaya to get, along with the friendly staff, made shopping there a great expience and something I always looked forward to. That is, until my trip there at around 1:00 p.m on 7/02/2020. The unblelievable rudeness towards me by the woman (asian, middle aged, straight black hair just above the shoulders) who rang up my purchase at 1:31 p.m. at register 5 on 7/02/20 (according to my receipt) is a very serious and disturbing matter, not to mention the significant emotionall and psychological trauma it has caused me. Here is how the transaction went from begging to end: 1. I removed the items from the basket, placed them on conveyor and placed the basket beneath the conveyor. She scaned the items, placed them in a bag, and I paid. Not once did acknowlege me in any way. She accomplished this by not saying a single word and by looking down the entire time. At this point, I felt very uncomfortable. And, if this wasn't bad enough, the worst part of this horrible experience was at end when she threw (yes threw!) the receipt across the counter at me! I sincerely hope you take my word as to what happened. I say this because I simply do not have the energy (I have debilitating fatigue due an illness) to post much of anything at all, ever. However, I felt strongly enough about this, that I felt it was absolutely necessary to say something. At the time of the incident, I really wish I had gotten a store manager or at least looked at her name tag to get her name, but I was just so upset and shocked by what happened, that I just wanted to get out of there. I did though, once I got to my car, call the store at about 1:40 p.m. the same day and left a message about the incident. I never got any kind of reply though, so I wrote this post to make sure the manager and/or owner knows about this. I hope the details I've given you are enough to identify which of your female employees felt it was okay to treat me so horribly. Unfortunatley, I strongly believe she treated me this way because I happen to be white.

Dan C.

Yelp
I'm so glad this place opened up. My family and I live just 5 blocks away. I love the variety of fresh produce and vegetables. Everything is neatly organized, labeled, and priced. Not what you would expect at an Asian grocery store. Something akin to QFC. And they also have a variety of your standard "American" produce (oranges, apples, bananas, etc..). The frozen foods section is stocked with a ton of variety Asian comfort foods, everything from Chinese sausage, potstickers, to mochi ice cream. There are aisles after aisles of snacks, desserts, and other items. Think of a Ranch 99 grocery store, except without all the pushy people. I can actually casually stroll through aisles without bumping into people. They also offer interesting baskets on wheels, nice touch and alternative to the traditional carts. The owners and workers are very nice and genuinely want to hear feedback. For example, they have a large assortment of teas and even instant milk tea.. but no boba. He said he would check to see if the distributors have smaller sizes than 10lbs bags. Yeah - not looking to re-open a boba stand. Although, that would be awesome, if a Sharetea or bubble tea stand were in there like Renton Uwajimaya. But I'm glad they are open and I don't need to drive to downtown Safeway or the one off Coal Creek anymore. Welcome to Newport Hills SMart! For fellow neighbors and visitors, please shop here - we don't want another failed Bill Pace grocery store and vacant lot. Or worse - land owner sells to a developer to build dense housing and cause traffic. So get off your butts and do some grocery shopping at SMart!!!!!!

Joanie H.

Yelp
I super love this place. Having moved here from SF, and knowing how expensive everything is there already, I could not believe that this was the only place I could find with Asian food that was affordable. Asian Family Market is such a rip off for so little food and so is H-Mart and the foods there aren't even unique or fresh. Luckily, I found this gem. Come here now one every month since it is out of my way. They always have interesting mixes of things. You really have to treat it like a treasure hunt and look around. Keep up the good work!

Eva Y.

Yelp
This place is spacious, fruits are reasonably priced, traffic is never an issue unlike factories area! I would frequent this place and look forward to them completing the remodel to also offer meats and seafood soon!

Jane D.

Yelp
Finally! A grocer in the neighborhood-and a good one at that! Asian/international groceries with a good mix of household basics. Prices were surprising. Cheaper than Viet Wah on some of the items we buy. I will be back for the bigger draw, the produce. Great bargains and healthy looking greens. Clean and neat and friendly. Welcome to the neighborhood S'mart! We are so glad you're here.

Dianna W.

Yelp
Definite pros and cons to this establishment. On the pro side, the supermarket is very spacious compared to other Asian grocery stores in the area. I can't imagine ever feeling claustrophobic in this branch; I imagine that it could probably have hundreds of customers in store without any issue, which is a nice change of pace. The store was also kept very clean, and the staff were anywhere from neutral to friendly. There was a decent selection of things on sale. The drawback is that the produce and meat sections didn't really feel up to par yet. Lots of the fruit looked less than fresh, and I purchased a head of napa cabbage that I discovered to be kind of wilted when I opened the bag. I was excited to see pork belly available, but the quality of it just didn't seem as fresh as you can get if you go to more established places, especially in downtown Seattle. I wonder if the store needs more patronage in order for the produce to cycle well. I also feel like they could really benefit from having some type of hot bar. As it is, I think I'm still more inclined to head towards Jing Jing (which also happens to be slightly closer to where I live).

Hoc P.

Yelp
This place is close to my house and one thing I would say is that it's definitely a replacement of Jing Jing for the most part (except hot food, drinks and missing seafood). Veggi are fresh. They have lots of canned food options. They do sell whole box of ramen! YES! Coffee and other seasoning for Asian dishes are available too. It's walking distance for me so it's awesome. I do hope they stay long in the business though because this neighborhood is notorious of TALKING about local businesses and NOT SHOPPING here.

Monica K.

Yelp
A large Asian supermarket that's only been open for a few months. There's plenty of parking space at this place. I went on a Saturday morning and there were only a few other customers shopping around. The cashier was very friendly - she was telling me about their specials and made me feel welcome. Although there are a couple of other Asian supermarkets closer to where I live, I'll definitely visit this place again in the future.

Angela Z.

Yelp
LOVE LOVE LOVE that there is a new asian supermarket in the neighborhood! Great selection of fresh fruits and vegetables and of course snacks and ramen. Prices I think are better than Jing Jing in Factoria and the store is much bigger with more variety. Looking forward to the meat/seafood department opening up soon and wondering if there would be a deli department too selling ready to made food? That would be amazing and save me the trip to Ranch 99 in Kent.

Yj C.

Yelp
Some of the most competitive prices on many Asian dried goods, snacks, rice, noodles, and preserved items. Produce and meat are not their strong points, but as long as you know that, a fun step-back-in-time shopping experience!

Jill T.

Yelp
Good variety of products from all over the world but please bring Coolish from Japan! It is similar to Snow Ice but better. The vanilla flavor is the best but chocolate is good too. It is also made by Lotte.

Holly Q.

Yelp
Super clean Asian grocery store with a lot of different varieties of produces and snacks. I got several different type of fruits from them and they were all good. The prices are very reasonable. Be sure to get a bag of rice before you leave. This place has the cheapest rice in town!! The cashier was very friendly which I normally do not see in an Asian market!!

Joseph L.

Yelp
This is an awesome option for Asian goods and produce. The prices are amazing and they have some cool items that you don't find at regular stores. This supermarket is great if your in the neighborhood and in bind for some ingredients.

Dawn M.

Yelp
The best rice prices in Bellevue! Good prices on organic fruit and vegetables. Nice selection as well. Bright, well organized, and clean. Great customer service too :)

Kristal K.

Yelp
I am so happy there is a Asian supermarket so close to home! Their prices are unbeatable and a good selection of Asian snacks and candy! I haven't bought any produce yet but I will be back! I'm also glad they will be opening their meat and seafood department soon. :D

Craig S.

Yelp
Happy to see a newer business in the area -- this place is super-convenient to three of my favorite restaurants (sorry Uwajimaya, you're not). Location (5/5): About one mile off the freeway. I've never seen the parking lot full (rarely above 50% capacity). Layout (5/5): Location of all products makes sense. While that may seem a gimme, it's not. Also, aisles seem wider than Uwajimaya and some big-chain supermarkets. Selection (3/5): Produce is a mixed bag (and sometimes bulk-ish only) -- but the prices are reasonable, esp. considering the number of slightly bruised/oxidizing options I often see. For meats, they're good on frozen, so-so on fresh. Pretty good on snacks (my kryptonite!) and I always pick up something I've never seen or tried before ... sometimes delightful, sometimes not -- but always something neat and unusual to check out. Staff (4/5): Courteous, but feels like there's not enough cashiers most visits. This isn't unique to S-Mart (QFC and Safeway have similar challenges). Prices (5/5): Spot checking, they're the same or better than local big-chain stores, and Uwajimaya.

Paul T.

Yelp
This is a nicer looking version of VietWah. A bigger version of Jing Jing market. They don't have any fresh meat yet, only frozen. Good variety of Asian produce and nice to have more options in the area. Not surprised at their lack of customer service. You come in, you buy, you leave.

Stella L.

Yelp
I really like S-Mart. I no longer need to go to China town. They have almost all things I need, and reasonable price that is comparable to China town. The produce quality is good. Lots of frozen food choice. Cheaper than Uwajiwama, Jing Jing and Hmart for sure. The owners couples are very friendly.

Brea N.

Yelp
I love this spot. Great prices on a variety of things. Much cheaper then out local grocery on most things. Love the candy section, lots of fun treats. Very nice people.
