We first visited Brother Justus when they were a tiny distillery over on Taft Street NE. It was clear then that they had a vision for making whiskey.
They are now in a huge facility in northeast Minneapolis. It is very, very huge.
They have a number of whiskies and quite interesting. They use Minnesota oak barrels for aging. There is a "silver" unaged whiskey, a single malt whiskey, a cold-peated single malt, Brigid's First Batch, and several specialty batches. I recommend trying onr of their flights. Of the ones that we tried, Brigid's was the best.
They also have a gin, which is quite nice. While it is a bit on the "hot" side, it has an interesting slight taste of cinnamon. It is a nice London Dry style of gin
They also have a number of liqueurs including a vermouth, and a fantastic aperitivo - which we bought!
The cocktails were excellent. I had the Fitzgerald, which was gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. I asked for them to go light on the syrup, and they actually did. It was perfect. My husband really enjoyed their version of a boulevardier. They also offer low alcohol and non-alcoholic drinks.
They offer a vegetable box, a cheese box, or a mixed box from Surdyk's, as well as a vegan box from Herbivorous Butcher. I think this was a clever decision. You can also bring in food.
The staff was knowledgeable as well as extremely personable. I heartily recommend you try their tasting room out. The atmosphere is sedate and calm, the drinks excellent, and their whiskeys and liqueurs excellent.
They are located in the north side of Minneapolis, at 3300 5th Street NE.
