Let me just say this, THIS IS THE WORST CHINESE SPOT IVE BEEN TO IN NEW HAVEN!! The lady in the front is beyond rude, not to mention argued with me because i didn’t tip her for my lunch special. She’s worried abt a tip & she should be worried abt the health department. Especially after i seen a rat run across the floor. Never again!!!

Horrible food. Unpleasant service. The only thing that was okay was the location and fast service. But those two things alone will never get me to go back. The fish was over cooked on the outside. Undercooked on the inside. No flavor. It was worse than a no name brand of microwavable fish from Aldi's. The half chicken was under cooked. I asked for fried hard/well. No flavor. Complete disappointment. This is the 3rd time trying different things over the last year. All 3 were extremely bad experiences. Won't give them a 4th try.

Never again!! Work downtown so I wanted to try something different then my usual spots. This was nasty. Now I tried to save it by adding hot sauce and duck sauce it was still horrible. $8 dollars down the drain. And to top it off!! The lady was rude and aggressive. I showed my entire office. Not a soul will eat here again. Shame!!

One of the best Chinese fast food restaurants here. Tastes good.

I ordered mushroom egg foo yung and got roast pork. I wouldn't mind if I ate meat but I don't. My crab rangoon was so greasy and semi stale tasting 😩

I'm giving everything a one star because I went in there and I gave my hard-earned money and not even a thank you and they're really cheap on the rice

The Chinese lady at the register is so rude, idk how this place is still in business. Not only is there rats running around the dinning room while you eat, the lady made a mistake to my order. Instead of correcting it, she issued a refund after being disrespectful. Please find other Chinese restaurants before wasting your time, eating at this establishment.

Satisfying, filling, and delicious "American Chinese" food at very easy on the Pocket prices. When I've had a long day and just want something comforting to fill me up, I hit up China King. Friendly and efficient service for all who come through their doors.

The food is absolutely disgusting. The chicken and vegetables are slimy and the chicken isn't fully cooked. Just aweful......

This place is my new standard Chinese place since moving to New haven 6 months ago. It's hard to go wrong with chinese. They offer all the same stuff you'd expect to get at a good fast chinese place. I go with szechuan chicken and egg rolls and have been happy every time. I assume we all have typical standards when ordering some chinese for movie night or something. This place satisfies and is always ready quick. 10/10 for consistency.

Bro I haddd to make a review for this place. I'm from Hartford when I'm in new haven randomly I randomly happened to be at the green... found this Chinese shop. Great service when I come friendly lady upfront. Only had eggrolls. I think the best egg rolls I ever had. When ever I'm in city Hartford I be hoping they can take my money for 2 eggrolls and their ice tea. The lady at the register should know who this is. I'm the guy from Hartford. Made a quick stop here for lunch. The prices are very fair and what you might expect from an American style Chinese food place. The service is barebones. You will not be coddled here. Do not expect welcomes or thank yous. You can get in and out in under 10 minutes, and the food seems like it's made fresh. However, when it comes to the flavor - you won't get much. The chicken is dry and the sauce is bland. The rice is bland. The soup dumplings are tasteless. You get what you pay for - this is a subpar place. There are better options, a handful in fact, on the same block.

I wanted to get something quick.... CHICKEN GIZZARDS, yes I did order gizzards!! Don't judge me. So I called and asked how long in order to pick them up myself. They told me 10mins. Quick and easy right?? WRONG! I arrive at China King around 15mins later to pick up my order, and it wasn't ready, not only was it not ready they hadn't even dropped them in the fryer!!! This is the second time. I literally was about to walk out and leave them behind. I asked why they had not been dropped and the young woman said "we busy!" Then why did you tell me ten minutes over the phone??? On top of that they were soft and not fried enough. This was the second time this has happened at that location, needless to say it will be the last time.

Can't go wrong as long as you have clear expectations. This is the best Chinese food in New Haven!!! Along with fast and friendly service!!!

This is a solid place to get Chinese American style take out fast food in Downtown New Haven. The cold sesame noodles are really good and come a bit spicy with chili oil and on a bed of fresh lettuce. The vegetable dumplings are hot and chewy and best ordered half steamed half fried. They have an extensive menu of all the usual Chinese American style take out fast food items you'd expect to see. Everything is reasonably priced. The lady who works the counter is efficient at getting your order but not particularly friendly. The food takes a little longer than it should to prepare, but it's a plus that everything is made hot and fresh to order. If you are in the mood for Chinese American style take out fast food in New Haven, this is an adequate option that will certainly hit the spot.

Beef fried rice is soooo good! Highly recommended to all Chinese who wants to enjoy homeland flavor in New Haven!!

It's cheap and fast, I admit my stomach didn't feel good after but I would eat here again if I'm looking for a cheap Chinese fix. They forgot my egg roll But got almond cookies instead. The scallions pancakes tasted more like crackers not bad though.

I haven't ate anything from there I haven't liked but I'm not giving it a 1 Star because of the food. They are rude. Twice I placed an order on seamless at this restaurant and it was immediately cancelled because they were "too busy". The first time I contacted seamless about it and today my boyfriend called them and the woman hung up the phone on him. This is very unprofessional, if you can't provide service why be on seamless where people can place orders? Then I have to wait 5+ days for a refund

Had takeout here a few times and it's always yummy. Super quick service and excellent if you're looking for some simple dishes!

If i could give it a zero star i would. The worst customer service. I ordered at 930 at nite and its currently 1054 at nite and made a call. The same rude woman answered phone with uh hello and then their fax machine line came on. I asked if they were still gonna make it she said ya 1 minute and hung up. Glad i wont be eating there EVER.

On a normal day I give this place a modest 3. It's cheap and fast and the food is pretty darn good. Free delivery for those of you living in New Haven. When I'm drunk I give it 5 stars though - because they are open late and nothing beats a huge portion of Chinese food at 1am. The food is consistent and most dishes are a pretty good bargain. I typically get the boneless ribs and either a small fried rice or lo mein and walk away under $11. They serve combo's all day and all night too which include a can of soda. Seriously, try this place and let me know if you agree.

Simply put .. GHETTO CHINESE FOOD. This has it and does the job. Period. On a relative scale, if you're looking for the aforementioned .. this joint is the spot for Yalies and New Haven with an ideal location and quick "15 minute" service. Plus the people that work here are always cordial and nice to me. I wonder if they really recognized me. With the new Shake Shack in place, I'm sure the business here hasn't been great, but seriously sometimes nothing can beat a big container of sweet tea and some good ole' Ghetto Chinese food. Typical Chinese food place. Fast and friendly service and food is what you'd expect. Not anything to write home about, but serviceable. My one gripe is the duck sauce. Every Chinese food place I've been to, take out or otherwise, has their own "fresh" or from the bottle duck sauce. This place only has packets of the stuff. It leaves a lot to be desired. I picked up some boneless spare ribs, pork fried rice, wonton soup, and some chicken fingers. All tasted good and I will probably be going back. Just wish the duck sauce situation was a bit better.

New Haven doesn't have a lot of good Chinese takeout, so when I discovered China King, I was hopeful. The rating (my first on Yelp; I just had to) might give some indication of how my first and last experience ordering from here went. I had no idea it was possible to make Chinese food so simultaneously inauthentic, unhealthy, repellant, and overpriced! The sauces on my bean curd with broccoli and garlic eggplant were overwhelming and excessive--they must really think poorly of the American palate to serve us such goop as "Chinese." The fried rice was dyed yellow and imbued with an odd flavor, clearly cheaply bought. Add to that the fact that they called me to ask if they could deliver the wrong order they'd accidentally prepared (after I had had them repeat my order back to me on the phone!), the hour-long wait time for gosh-awful food, and the silly price, and this restaurant takes the cake for the worst food experience I've had in New Haven.

I ordered the General Tso's chicken and it was just "meh." The portion was very small compared to what other places give you. The chicken was fried okay, at least. It wasn't super-crispy, but it wasn't soggy either. The sauce was plentiful, but it could have been a little sweeter. All in all, it's not much worse than the other places I've tried around New Haven, but it's not the best, either. On the plus side, I ordered for delivery. I was quoted 30 minutes, and it arrived about ten minutes early.

The driver,Micky,gets Five stars because he is friendly and does not make you wait for the delivery.The owners of the restaurant on the other hand get a one star.It appears they take the customer for granted.

Whenever you're in the mood for Chinese, this is the place to go. Their menu has everything, their prices are inexpensive, and it tastes good.

Been here twice. No frills place, staff were neither particularly welcoming nor rude. Quick in taking your order! Fried rice was decent, egg drop wonton soup with dry noodle was not. The dry noodle is really a bunch of crackers, and the wontons tasted odd. Food is served in takeaway containers - this isn't a place you really want to hang around in for ages anyway!

Greasy , typical chinese food. I ordered the chicken wings and fried rice and beef with broccoli. the beef was tougher than sand paper. the sauce had a weird taste to it. won't be back

A decent hole in the wall that I first went to as a student in 1996. Stop back when I'm in town and recommend for that old college feel. Worth the visit. Cheap and plentiful. Good overall meal. Nice ginger flavor to the general Tsos chicken. Crispy. Solid fried rice and pork egg rolls. Egg drop soup has a good flavor. Lo mein was not my favorite this time but hubby liked it.

I used to love this place.... But... I order more than 2 hours ago. Call them twice and they only say it's coming... Food get home after 2 hrs and 10 mins not even warm. Went to the restaurant, ask the. For a refund and gave a rrally hard time. Oh well, guess what... Never again. Horrible experience

The reason I rated a 3 star. The food was okay nothing over the top but when I got home I was missing apart of my order so had to return.

Prices have gone up. Does not reflect the quality of the food (average at best). Could get a better meal at subway for cheaper or even chipotle for 50 cents more. Well, it was good while it lasted...

Food was cold and sauce were all over the bag! Esp when I ordered an hour ago when I'm just 3 blocks away!! Called the lady and ask what's going on?! Because it shouldn't be taken an hour to deliver when I'm only 3 blocks away!!! Then they charge you for the fee! Wow unbelievable!

I ordered over the phone and it was just a mess getting my order through. They said 45 minutes for delivery, so why did it take two hours? I called at the hour mark and the lady with a rude voice said he'll be there in five to ten minutes and I said okay, must be traffic. Called at the one hour and a half mark to have her say that's he's on his way right now. Whatttttt. And then the guy calls with an excuse for his lateness. When he finally comes after two hours, he just gave me my food, did not count my money and left. So if I gave him change , I would not get back my change. Then I opened the bag and it was so oily. The oils from the foods spilled around inside the bag despite them being stapled shut. So my chicken and broccoli was on the eggs rolls and that was a mess. The food was cold and not even that good. Overall, would not recommend at all.

The general Tao's chicken was terrible I asked for extra sauce I did not get any I called and asked for super spicy was not spicy at all I called and complained and the woman that answered the phone hung up on me and told me that she put extra sauce in there I just don't see it I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody

Tasty traditional Chinese-American dishes served in generous portions at an affordable price. Fast and efficient ... located in heart of downtown New Haven ... always seems to be open ... a family-owned and operated eatery for eat-in or take out. Delivery often available. Crispy wings a favorite; occasionally a special seasonal dish offered. Freshly prepared food, courteous service, reliable hours. A fixture in the city center for years patronized by locals and students alike~~from a long-time customer.

Essentially my go-to Chinese in the Have. I've tried a few other options but none can quite compare to the value and quality of China King. I wouldn't say my favorite, but best I've found so far.

Disappointing. My standards for Chinese food are a bit high (perhaps unfairly) but this place just doesn't cut it. Prices are fair. My main complaint is with their basic "sauce" that goes on everything, from General Tso to Kung Pao to Hunan. After all, it's the sauce that makes the dish (everything else is really irrelevant. It's just too sweet and "not right." I'd prefer going to Basil, as they have the "sauce" right.

The lady who is always there is the most disrespectful person I have ever met. You stand in line for at least 20 minutes while she snacks in the back and answers the phone taking to go orders ignoring the fact that you are even there. I guess in her mind extra duck sauce means 1 packet in the to go bag. Would not recommend to anyone looking for something edible to eat. Saw them put someone's order in a dirty tray. Absolutely first rate 'hood chinese food. If you're in for a long night of staring at paper or computer screens and need a quick, delicious and satisfying fix, then China King is the spot for you. If you call in, you can go pick it up in 10 minutes. best money you'll have ever spent. seriously. just make sure to get a workout in beforehand, as is the case with all manner of hood cuisine.

The last time I ordered from here the woman proceeded to tell me that I told her a different order and that was why my food delivery was wrong. She wasn't letting me talk and basically was telling me I got what I got and that's it. Not only that, but EACH time that I ordered delivery, they took over an hour or an hour exactly. I live about 10 minutes away. Haven't ordered from here in about a year, so maybe they are under new management now, but probably not.
