The Best Hotels in Iceland, From Rural Lodges to Reykjavik Boutiques

"It’s impossible to miss the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon—not just because it’s the only hotel for miles, but because it’s so perfectly tucked against the moss, trickling waterfalls, and anchoring mountain you’ll have to double-take to make sure you’re not stuck in some sort of Nordic mirage. Every single space throughout the property makes the most of the landscape with massive windows and moody interiors that complement the moss that surrounds the hotel in the summertime. Like most luxe stays in Iceland, the front desk is ready to make dinner reservations, book tours, and accommodate room upgrades and requests whenever possible. But they do go above and beyond in small, unexpected ways. If budget is no concern at the hotel’s restaurant, dig into the Dream Feast, which gives the chef full permission to get creative and craft a seasonal five-course experience. Alternatively, it’s the perfect spot to taste some grilled arctic char."

We stayed 2 nights here in an ocean view room. The room was very nice with private bathroom with heated floors. ||Dinner was very good as was breakfast buffet both days. ||The hotel is located very near activities in the glacier area. We snowmobiled and took rib boat tour of glacier lagoon and visited Diamond Beach. Lots to do in this area. ||I would recommend this hotel and stay here again. Than you!

Wonderful hotel in a scenic location. The rooms were very clean and quiet. The breakfast was tasty but lacked hot options. The staff were friendly and we really enjoyed our stay. Parking is also available in front of the hotel.

Very modern rooms with the most comfortable bed among all the hotels we stayed at in Iceland (most are too soft). Blinds do a great job for blackout. Service is generally good especially the lady at the reception and shift manager at the restaurant. Location is unbeatable (basically the only hotel near the ice lagoon). Having a small gym and spa is a bonus. Hotel can consider upgrading the toiletries (the shampoo and conditioner barely do anything) and toilet paper. Had high hopes for the restaurant but weren’t blown away by the food both in terms of taste and presentation - salmon was overbooked, steak was very tough (granted it’s grass-fed). Breakfast has decent selection. Making reservation is highly recommended as pretty much all guests will eat there. Overall a nice stay. Price is on the higher side but not everything justifies the premium.

Beautiful place. Very helpful and nice front check in staff. Wonderful service at dinner. Lots of parking. It's nice to have blackout shades in the room. The TV did not work, took the staff awhile to get it working. The bathroom shower floor in the room and sauna area floor near the water area and the showers were slick. Great bar. I would like to have hand lotion in the room and not have to get it at the sauna. Overall lovely place.

Gorgeous location with amazing views and spotless rooms. The staff were friendly and quick to respond when we mentioned the room’s air freshener was a bit too strong for our kids. They changed the sheets and vacuumed right away, which we appreciated. If you are sensitive to fragrance, I would recommend requesting a room without deodorizer.

Exceptional room in the best hotel around the area. The exec suite has a separate side room suitable for kids. I travelled with two kids (11 and 9). ||The private hot tub on the terrace is worth the expense of this room after a day of exploring the glacier lagoon or icy diamond beach nearby. ||At peak season USD1500 per night is expensive, but the hotel offers a unique location and excellent service.

Our favorite hotel stay while in Iceland. Rooms were spacious with excellent views — got to catch the Northern Lights in mid-April! The spa/sauna was fantastic. Only downside was breakfast was not included like most of our other stays and we felt the price was a bit high. However, many people highly recommend their dining options. We did grab some muffins/snacks from the front desk that were great, though! We loved this stay and would recommend :)

Comfortable rooms, though we would sometimes get some thumping noise from the rooms above. Service was great, if a little bit stiff. The ring road just outside was not a problem as no one is driving past during the night. Overall a peaceful location to stay with comfort around the glacier area.
