We were looking into Lost Fox for a engagement celebration but found that you had to email in advance for reservations bigger than 2. I emailed and got a confirmation in 1-2 days. Note this for "last minute" reservations - it ain't gonna work.
We arrived earlier than the newly engaged couple and they had no inkling that we were celebrating anything even though we called and emailed the place recently. We mentioned it multiple times before they got there and during the meal -- we were expecting a candle on a dessert or a "congrats" or something, but we barely got anything. Someone came over (not sure if it was a manager) and joked about doing "something." The something was giving shots to all of us (and not telling us what it was). Two of us (me included) cannot drink and it was extremely awkward. We appreciated the thought, but it was kind of an oversight.
I saw the place settings and got really excited but the ambiance severely lacked. I thought at first that it was a nice place with a fireplace next to our table, but you can hardly see! We also couldn't hear ANYTHING and had to raise our voices just to talk. This is certainly not a place to go to celebrate or to have a date. We hadn't seen this family in almost a year and we wanted to catch up. We had to whisper to our waitress just so she could hear us. And forget about it when the "live music" (aka DJ) comes on at 9. It turns into a FULL CLUB and you can't hear yourself or enjoy dinner. This alone turns us off to coming here again.
Service was underwhelming as well. Waitress had to be RIGHT next to us for us to hear her. No suggestions were made when we asked what was good. We wanted to order apps to have on the table when everyone else arrived but it was like pulling teeth. We had to wave her down to order appetizers, then again to order drinks and AGAIN to order food/dessert. The food also took a really long time. The apps weren't big enough to share and were clunky with our party size. Also, a lot of the food comes on these cast iron pans and are PIPING hot. You can't hear them say it's hot, but you just...find out. I know this seems like common sense, but they didn't put a towel or anything to protect you from serving yourself.
Another odd and annoying thing is that you have to show your ID just to get something from your car. I guess I'm past that age because I was never carded (and I didn't drink).
If you've reached this far, here's how the food and bev were. Apps were the sweet potato wedges ($9) and the nothin' but crab dip ($22). I ordered the grilled half chicken ($26) and the Hibiscus MargariNO ($12) and hubby had the rigatoni bolognese ($22) and the Cuban Punch drink ($13). We rounded out with olive oil cake, cheesecake, & chocolate pot de creme to share ($10 each).
FOOD/DRINK:
-sweet potato wedges - these were crisp and perfectly made, but it was not an app made to share between more than 2 people. it only came with 4 wedges. we had to awkwardly cut them in half to try to share. if our waitress would have made suggestions, we probably wouldn't have got them. $9 for 4 is not a good price point. either increase the portion size or lower the price.
-nothin' but crab dip - the warmed pita was the star here. my in-laws are from MD and deemed it "really good." i think i've had better, but it wasn't bad. $22 is STEEP for this. but it did come with a sizable amount.
-grilled half chicken - chicken was moist and falling off the bone, but the sauce seemed weirdly like sour cream? the fries were good, but some were limp and cold. too expensive.
-rigatoni bolognese - very rich and filling, but i only had a bite. hubby kept stealing my chicken to get a break from the "one note pasta" (his words)
-Hibiscus MargariNO - a very good mocktail in a cute glass, but I cannot believe they have the GALL to charge almost the same for this as the alcoholic ones!!! (I didn't try hubby's drink)
-olive oil cake - extremely dry and spongey. HOW can an olive oil cake be dry?
-chocolate pot de creme - good enough, but it was again, "one note"
-cheesecake - weird texture and dry - my FIL did not care for it at all
Overall, the food quality didn't match the prices. I don't understand why they are doing higher end pricing but the service and consistency don't match. We will probably not be back.
