Inside Milan With Designer Patricia Urquiola - AFAR

"Fondazione Achille Castiglioni is the architect’s studio from 1962 until 2002; Achille Castiglioni was my mentor, and I had the honor of doing my final thesis with him and serving as his assistant at the Milan Polytechnic." - Kathryn Romeyn

2 Days in Milan for Design Lovers

"Opened in 2011 to catalogue, archive, and digitize the maestro’s projects, drawings, photos, and models, this foundation offers guided tours Tuesday to Saturday for individuals and groups, showcasing creations made more than half a century ago that are now cult objects—from the Mezzadro and Sella chairs and the Tubino desk lamp to the Arco and Toio floor lamps and the Allunaggio seat." - The MICHELIN Guide

Located next to the Sforza Castle, they have a very huge collection of products by the Castellioni brothers preserved to give light to their contribution towards the field of design. I highly recommend you to visit if you're related to any field of design or is just fun to see. The place is small in size but a rich collection.

The information given here on google maps and in various travel guides is insufficient and the foundation does not bother updating it. Visiting the Achille Castiglione Foundation was one of the main goals of my visit to Milan. Upon arrival at the location, I get to hear that a visit is only possible through a pre-booked reservation for a tour. Of course, tours for the day are booked out. The personnel at the foundation has been barely willing to answer a question, overall very unfriendly and unaccomodating. Great disappointment!

Visit the atelier of one of Italy's premier and most recognised industrial designers. The studio is packed with references, prototypes, studies and inspirational pieces that led to some of the most iconic furniture and lighting designs of the 50's onwards. The English version of the "tour" is why this is not a 5 star review.

Highly recommended for all design lovers. Run by commited daughters of Castiglione who show their passion for all his work. Furthermore you can only gain access with a tour which guarantees having a great experience

If you are an industrial designer, then I guess this is part of the studies. Personally, I have to say many of Castigloni's works were not a complete object for anything. It was doing 80% of many functions. But there was no clean 100% functionality in one thing. They were just messy.

A really interesting history of Italian designer and architect Achille Castiglioni. The staff are very well informed and tell a beautiful story.
