Trestles Beach Trailhead

NOTE: Pictures were taken during the winter. Should be a lot more scenic around the Spring seasons with the bloom. I was able to traverse the trails from the San Mateo campsite wearing an old pair of all purpose athletic shoes (not sure on the branding though) and didn't need to use hiking boots or a hiking stick (brought it along in case, never used it on this trail). Pros: Various trails taking you here and there throughout the area. North East to the hills around the inland cities, southwest to the beach. Was able to walk to the beach itself and see the washed up seaweed and other debris. Cons: Some cacti have buds that fall on the ground that would get stuck to the bottom of your shoe and are hard to get off. Long needles, not enough to penetrate my shoes but enough to warrant caution for anyone else. Also, coyotes. Even in the afternoon. Be careful with your dogs around here.

Great parking, even better beach! Bring your board

Nice sand beach in a long stretch. Quiet and not crowded on a Thursday afternoon. Good for families. Trail is approx. 1.5 miles one way, mostly paved.

Trestles Beach is a very cool hidden treasure, accessible only by foot, or by bicycle. Famous for surfing, the beach offers numerous places to walk and explore, including wildlife viewing. If you're into watching trains, the Pacific Surfliner and Metrorail trains pass very nearby the beach. Definitely worth the time and effort to visit.

It"s a journey to see the great pier..this foto of Papa's@ Corona de Mar..resembles the coastline of San Clemente..gearing for summer beaching and surfers....must stop..Ruby's Laguna Beach..

Free parking was very limited, but there is a parking lot that costs $3 an hour. The hike down to the beach is about a mile and goes under the 5.

off the main path beach. almost only locals use beach access/exercise/ walk dogs.
