Right when I walked into the studio, Jaya warmly greeted me at the door and welcomed me into what she called the “Veda family.”
The studio has two practice rooms, and she directed me to the correct one, showing me where to leave my shoes and letting me know I could bring my belongings inside to place on the open shelving. Once inside, I immediately noticed the padded flooring, which definitely added support to the practice.
As the room filled, Jaya gently asked us to shift and make space so everyone could feel comfortable and included. The class began with a collective Om and some simple, settling breathwork, and then we moved into a steady, flowing sequence.
This was an intermediate-level class with light heat. Rather than long static holds or intense balancing, the practice unfolded as a continuous, rhythmic flow that gradually built energy and then softly guided us back down with slower movement and gentle stretching.
Jaya closed the class with a beautiful chant, inviting us to join in or simply receive it in stillness. We ended together with “Om, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti,” which sealed in the benefits of our practice.
The overall atmosphere was warm and friendly, with people naturally introducing themselves and chatting afterward. The music leaned more toward traditional Indian-inspired sounds rather than mainstream Western yoga playlists, which added to the overall vibe of the class and space.
It was a lovely experience. I left feeling a sense of belonging, connected, and at ease. Thank you, Jaya!
