I've always loved going to the Enzian, and have been doing so for a couple of decades now. My last visit, this past Saturday, is the first time I walked away from there feeling disgruntled by their service. We arrived at 3:30 in the afternoon, to relax for a while before the movie started at 4:30, and decided we wanted to sit at the Eden bar. There were two young adult adults working in the bar and they had the music blasting. It was so loud that nobody was sitting around the bar; everyone was sitting out further away in the yard. Me and my companions opted to sit in the bar next to a fan because it was hot and humid. But the music was so loud that we were yelling to hear each other, and I couldn't even hear the waiter when he introduced himself. When the female bartender came by to deliver our water, I asked, nicely, "is it possible to turn down the music a little bit?" She responded by putting her hand up and waving me off, while walking away and shaking her head. It felt like a very rude and completely unnecessary response.
That left me with an ick feeling for the first time ever at the Enzian, but then we had a really weird encounter with the wait staff inside the theater. Again, I've never had this happen before. There were four of us who ordered different things, and when they brought our four checks, they were all wrong. No big deal, we figured we could straighten it out with them, but the checks were so off that it was going to take a bit of conversation with the waiter to straighten it out. Since the movie was still playing, and we were concerned about the people around us and behind us being disturbed by all of that interaction, I asked if we could settle up after the movie. The waitress walked away and then a little while later a male waiter came by and just grabbed the two credit cards that were sitting on the table. When my friend mentioned that the checks were wrong, he said "we're just going to split it down the middle." And walked away. But the problem was there were four of us, and so there either should've been four separate checks, or we could've just paid one check and then we could've all sorted it out between us, but just grabbing the two credit cards that happened to be sitting on the table and splitting it down the middle really made things complicated. By the time he brought the receipts back the movie was finally over and we mentioned that the checks were wrong and we were hoping we could just wait till the movie was over to get it sorted, and his response was " We don't have time for that."
Another weirdly rude response. I guess that they want to get all of this stuff wrapped up before the movie is over, ideally, but it would've literally taken us three minutes to sort things out. Like I said, we could've just paid one bill and then the four of us could've sorted it out between us.
I don't know if there's new management of the wait staff or what's going on, but that's the first time I can remember being so put off by the staff at this establishment. I've always loved it here. I hope that this is not a sign of the direction that things are moving because one more interaction like that and I probably won't go back.
Incidentally, after the movie was over, and we walked back outside past the Eden bar, there was a different wait staff working the bar, and the music was lower and much more pleasant. And interestingly, almost all of the seats in the bar were full this time. As opposed to before, when everyone had to sit far away from the bar in order to hear themselves think.
On another note, the food and drinks were great, and the movie was enjoyable too.
