Where To Drink The Best Pints Of Guinness In London - London - The Infatuation

"Somewhere between seeing the Chelsea Flower Show-levels of foliage creeping up the orange-bricked building, to having your second pint in a book-lined nook with a wood-burning stove, you’ll realise you never want to leave Skehans. This Irish pub in Nunhead has charm oozing out of every corniced corner. Come for solid, dependable pints, and to put your Year 3 bodhrán lessons to use at a jam night." - sinead cranna

5 Walk-In Only Pubs To Watch The Euros Tonight - London - The Infatuation

"Self-described “purveyors of craic”, Skehans is something of a south London institution. The Irish boozer in Nunhead is a locals walk-in-and-say-hello favourite. Not just as a sanctum for those who have an interest in drinking professionally, but for anyone who’s looking for a complete pub experience (complete with Thai grub coming out of the kitchen). There are a few big screens either side of the bar and, for anyone not interested in the football, a mazy garden with plenty of covered space." - jake missing

Best SE London Pubs

Google
Skehans is a famous Irish pub. It topped Time Out's 2023 "Best Pubs in London" list, being voted "London's No. 1 Bar." Their Guinness is guaranteed to be authentic and flawless. But I've quit drinking. This pub is part of a joint venture with the Thai restaurant next door, so you can enjoy authentic, home-style Thai cuisine right there. The fried noodles were delicious, and the steak was even better than I expected—high-quality meat, though the tom yum gong was a bit too salty. It's very lively and down-to-earth. I love the lively yet relaxed atmosphere; you can just chat with anyone you meet.

🚇 Nunhead 🍺 £5.20 Guinness Skehan’s is located in a residential area in Nunhead Southeast London. The nearest station is Nunhead mainline. This pub started life as The Duke of Albany, built in 1895. Skehan’s is an Irish pub which came to be just under 10 years ago and today is one of the most celebrated pubs in London. This Victorian corner pub is very easy on the eye with lots of foliage, hanging baskets and detailed stonework. This is a traditionally decorated, high ceilinged, one bar pub that is set out in an L-shape. The servery has a solid wood counter and is surrounded by green velour topped stools. To the right of the servery is an ornate fireplace flanked by shelves covered in bric-a-brac. The seating is conventional with a couple of banquettes around the perimeter. Everywhere you look around this pub there is always something of interest. Some of the most notable features are on the ceiling where you’ll find beautiful cornicing and unique fans. Towards the back of the bar is a pool table, behind is a door which leads to a tiered beer garden. The beer selection will please the masses and offers a choice of well known brews, three cask ales and of course Guinness. As this is an Irish boozer, my choice was simple and I ordered a stout. My pint was thoroughly enjoyable and cost just north of a fiver. The food menu is Thai and is served in the restaurant, Roasts take centre stage on a Sunday. We arrived just after 12pm on a sunny Saturday lunchtime in July. We received a warm welcome by the team member on duty who was friendly and courteous. We decided to sit at the bar and got chatting to a local chap who was friendly also. The atmosphere was chilled and relaxed with a homely local pub feel. This pub attracts a broad range of punters from local students to longtime regulars and hosts live music 6 days a week, including Traditional Irish Music. Visiting @skehansfreehouse was an authentic Irish Pub experience, the hype is real, we loved it. This independent, family-run pub is all you would want your local pub to be. We’re so glad we visited and will definitely make a pilgrimage again soon. 📅 27th July 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻

This has been one of our favourite pubs for a while now. The Guinness is good/ reasonably priced and the atmosphere of a weekend is often lively. We recently popped in for the Sunday roast, which surpassed expectations! Get there early for a table.

Beautiful pub, classic feel, local vibe, great part of town - nice place to hang out

Decent pub but definitely prefer its sister pub up in Finsbury park. The Guinness was quite poor though which was surprising given that the faultering fullbacks ones are great for London. Very pretty pub regardless

Was looking forward to trying this bar but a bit of a disappointment. The Guinness was good but not great. Decor and ambience are nice, log burning stove is cosy. Vegan only food in the daytime is not going to suit everyone. Tried the tofu fish and chips. Well priced, big portion but the tofu was fridge cold in the middle and the chips were undercooked. The portly guy behind the bar with the gel in his hair and the green Ralph Lauren shirt was rude. The very tall barman was a nice guy. Would like to try the thai food and the live music. If you want the best Irish pub in South East London try the Blythe Hill Tavern.

As an Irish man who has just recently moved to London I was expecting a very different welcome when I made my way here from East London. I was told I couldn’t buy just one pint and must buy two? I never heard of anything like this and had to leave as I wasn’t ready to buy two pints on my first visit to a new place. The place was fairly quiet but you could tell it would be lively later as the evening carried on. I still give you five stars as a fellow Irish man and a business man myself I can’t bring myself to give a lesser score. Hopefully I will return with someone else to justify the second pint on the first purchase. Very weird policy for a place that should be welcoming for people in my position. That was sad.

This is probably the best pub in London. Every time I go I have the most fun and when I look around the space everyone is just enjoying themselves. Bar staff are friendly, live music is always a vibe, and the interiors are so joyous.

Yelp
If you are looking for one of the best and possibly the ONLY real Irish Pub in London, this is it. The Guinness is great, they have trad bands on occasion! Proper Fiddle playing. It is mostly quiet and has the feel of a real Local pub - except for Paddy's Day when I was there...and it was jammed, which is just what you want. They even served Irish Stew! A little slice of home.

Yelp
The restaurant here boasts some of the best Thai food in South East London and has the large plus point that it is situated in a glorious conservatory. The pub has a very mixed clientele made up of locals who have probably been drinking here since it opened to fresh faced goldsmiths students. Live music on the weekend which tends to be of the Irish folk variety and very cheap pool. In the summer this place comes into its own with a pretty walled beer garden. Did I mention that it was really cheap ???

Yelp
fine pub, cheap, friendly crowd, v decent food, awkward aggressive landlord, bit dirty.
