Penrose Heritage Museum

Definitely recommend if you enjoy automotive racing. Great displays about the pikes peak hill climb. There is a wide verity of carriages. Some of the history involving Spencer and Julie Penrose. As well as some items they had collected over the years. There are also TVs scattered around, with videos about some of the history playing. It was not very crowded when I went, so I was taking my time and moving at my own pace, took me about an hour or so to see/read everything. I am happy I decided to swing by during some down time.

Super awesome experience. A great collection of heritage from 18th century horse and donkey carts to modern racing cars. The excellent thing for a budget traveller is that it is free to enter and alao offers 90 min free parking in the broadmore parking

Super awsome place to visit they have a very cool collection of old carriages and race cars both old and new that have taken part in the pikes peak hill climb. The staff the had on hand the times we have visited are always friendly and willing to answer questions if you have any. The museum is free to visit and also validates your parking if you park in the parking garage. Definitely worth the trip to see and I can't recommend it enough.

A really lovely museum in a beautiful location! The collection of carriages and cars is interesting and well presented. I enjoyed every part of the visit—such a great place to explore!

Beautifully staged museum...with two different focuses. One was the collection of the Penrose family carriages and other riding gear. Everything from big fancy full sized carriages to small donkey (or llama!) carts. All beautifully preserved and displayed. The other focus was the history of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb race... something that had been run every year (except during the world wars) for over 100 years! Displayed are cars and motorcycles that have participated in the race over the decades. There is also a really good video to watch that really takes you through race's history. Even if you are not interested in racing, there are some very interesting characters and episodes that really bring the race to life. While the museum isn't very large, you can spend several hours there...especially if you take in the video.

Very fun museum. The best part was learning about the Pikes Peak car race. Free entrance and validated parking make this museum a must see.

Really awesome museum if you are a car or history enthusiast. I really enjoyed exploring this (smaller) museum located in the prestigious broadmoor. Parking for this museum is quite expensive, but they offered 90 minutes free with their validation so don't forget to snag that! It gave us enough time to still walk around and explore the hotel and scenic area a close by.

This place is connected to the parking garage for the Broadmoore. There was a lot of great info on the Penrose family. The museum is split into a few sections. There's a part that covers wagons, carriages, and buggies along with some Penrose history and another part (my favorite) that has the cars from the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. There are some awesome cars there like a very early Cadillac, a twin-engine Suzuki, a Nascar-style V-6 Mustang, and that infamously wrecked EVO. I went through and read a lot of the information and it took about 90 minutes, which lined up well with the parking validation that covered 90 minutes in the garage. The woman working at the time was helpful and we signed the logbook by the entrance. The museum is FREE to enter, which made it even better.

So much more than we expected! GPS took us to a parking garage, but the museum will validate for up to 90 minutes. I went with two kids (11&14) and we stayed for just over an hour. They offer a scavenger hunt (with small prize for a completed list) for kids. It was so much fun to search for the hidden figures while learning!

This is a small museum within 5 minutes walk of the Broadmoor hotel. Ever wanted to experience the whiplash of learning about sidesaddle riding and the design of horse-drawn carriages, and then one room over, hearing the buzz-saw of the 1000 horsepower engines screaming up the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb? If so, this is your place. We totally enjoyed browsing this eclectic collection. The Penrose family, involved in founding the Broadmoor Hotel, was instrumental in many parts of life in Colorado Springs, and this is a great intro to the region.

This is a small museum, set off on the side of the Broadmoor and easy to miss. I would strongly suggest swinging by if you have a spare half hour or so to peruse their collection of automobiles though if you are a car enthusiast. They focus primarily on the Pikes Peak rally's of which the Broadmoor played a major part of for the last 80 years or so. The cost is free, and for a motorcyclist/car enthusiast I really enjoyed it.

This is a free and interesting museum that is definitely with a visit if you are in the area. I will love it if you are interested in cars and/or racing. I'm not a car person but still enjoyed my visit there! My four boys did too - they are ages 2, 4, 6 and 8.

The other day I was looking for something fun, unique and well, free, to take some out of town guests. I remembered that there was some sort of Pikes Peak Hill Climb museum that had opened recently, so a Google search resulted in me finding the Penrose Heritage Museum. This is truly a gem. It is located just to the west of the Summit restaurant at The Broadmoor. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but once inside there are two floors of awesomeness. The right hand side of the museum has a collection of carriages from the 1800s that the Penrose's collected. There are also other unique treasures on display. The stuff that really got me fired up was the Pikes Peak Hill Climb cars and memorabilia. Racecars dating back to the 20s were on display, as well as current cars and motorcycles. They even had the Mitsubishi Evo that left the course in 2012, that was gnarly to see. Open: Mon - Sat, 9am - 5pm. Sun 1 - 5pm. If you park in The Broadmoor garage the museum will validate.

Love this museum!!! Historical carriages all the way to world record holding PPIHC vehicles! Great historical hosts and information galore! I highly recommend this museum, no matter if you're a car but or not. Free entrance and free parking voucher if you visit the museum. This is a MUST SEE.

Wonderful small museum covering the environment and history of the Broadmoor. The focus is in horse drawn carriages and the pikes peak race associated the Penroses who founded the Broadmoor. It's an easy museum to cover in an hour but it's really great.

Terrific collection! Make sure to watch actual race video on the far left ramp. Puts things in perspective. Also cool collection of Native American artifacts on right second floor.

Another free museum to visit in the Springs. Awesome little place. It is right by the Broadmoor making it a beautiful scenic drive and area to be around. Next door to the Carriage House which is another cool, free museum. A place my wife and I like to bring our visitors to. Definitely will be returning with more people.

This place is so cool! The curator us very nice and helpful. I'm impressed I haven't been to this Colorado Springs gem before!

This is a museum for people who like motor racing (in particular, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb) and can appreciate the science and artistry of transportation in the pre-motor car era. Did you know that the famous Unser racing family got its start at the PPIHC? Do you know what a surrey and a brougham are? Do you know the difference between an English and a Western saddle? Well, after visiting this very interesting and well laid out museum, you will. The museum, located next to the famous Broadmoor Hotel, is free and, if you park in the Broadmoor parking garage, the museum will even validate your parking ticket. An inexpensive and educational way to kill an hour or two when on the west side of Colorado Springs.
