One of the nation’s largest municipal parks is free to enter, with overlooks, desert trails, and petroglyphs. Often recommended by national outlets and local guides as a must for sunrise or sunset views that frame the city’s skyline.

SM has so many trails that are appropriate for many ages and skill levels. Love to be out here and just take in the fresh air and enjoy the beautiful sceneries our state has to offer from a sunny day to a rainy day never disappoints. You can sometimes see the wildlife around. We have seen javelina, quails, crows/raven, cute cotton tails rabbits, jack rabbits, coyotes, rattle snakes, scorpions, beetles, and smaller lizards. You can also see some petroglyphs/hieroglyphics but you have to know where to look for them the visitation center should have more of that info for you. If you love to experience the outdoors and appreciate nature this place is great. Just be aware of your surroundings this is the habitats area. Make sure you have sun screen/hat during the summer can get really hot and plenty plenty of water before you do any trail hiking. It is not advised to walk during mid days of summer or if their is a heat advisory warning Be safe and enjoy

Bring here while it rain, just amazingly breath taking, these pictures came from the top of south mountain. As we walked a little down you could easily see the streams and mini water falls in south mountain.

Take the time to stop at the Ranger Station to see the buildings built by the CCC in the 1930's. There are bathrooms there.

It's been our family's go to place on Christmas Day for years. When we first started going up, there was very little traffic and even fewer people. Now, it is everyone's go to place. Our secret is out...lol! It is well worth the drive, if for nothingelse but the scenery. The whole valley is visible, and on a clear day ...State Farm Stadium can be seen.

Nice walking distance for my dogs. Good speed trails, nice breeze during almost to closing time and nice evening view.I'll post a few more.
