Canyon Restaurant & Tavern Bar

My daughter and I stopped here for an early dinner after enjoying the afternoon on the mountain. Kerry, the friendly host, seated us promptly. Krystal, our server was phenomenal! My daughter and I split the Fig Flatbread, the Chili, and the Fish N Chips. We were hoping the AMAZING Chicken Tortilla soup would be served today but it was ham and potato (we don’t eat pork). We enjoyed our dining experience and will return the next time we go up the mountain!

5 stars for the stunning mountain location and views, but only 1 star for the Christmas buffet experience. On December 25, 2025, we paid a very high price for the holiday buffet expecting a special, elevated meal at this beautiful spot—and it was a huge letdown. The food was not fresh at all: several dishes tasted and looked like they had been sitting out or reheated for hours, with dry textures and bland flavors. The presentation was terrible—everything was messy, trays were nearly empty most of the time, no clear labels, and it all looked carelessly thrown together. This doesn’t come close to justifying the steep cost. In a place that promotes itself as “the most authentic wintertime destination in Southern Nevada,” we expected at least some quality and attention to detail for a festive holiday buffet, but it felt rushed and low-effort. The price simply doesn’t match what was delivered. Sadly, we won’t be returning for the food, though the hotel and surroundings remain gorgeous. I recommend skipping the buffet and just enjoying the scenery—or trying the regular a la carte menu if available.

We sat in the bar area, not the restaurant and wow! From the food, to the service (DERRICK), and atmosphere, this place was top notch on every level. We intended to sit in the restaurant but the music, vibe, and view of the bar area was more our style. Chili and Wild Shroom Melt were amazing!! We also ordered the "Retreat Coffee"... Derrick made them soooo good!!! We will be returning to the bar area for sure!

This restaurant charges an unlawful service fee at the end of the bill and it’s NOT shown anywhere in their menu for the consumer to understand what they will finally be paying. It’s a “mandatory” and unlawful surprise fee that hits the consumer financially as it’s not possible to determine a transparent cost for eating at this place. The service provided by the server was unacceptable: The wait time of 15+ minutes to just be acknowledged was so unprofessional, the wait time of 1+ hours to serve the food was a poor experience with food already cold and not fresh was an obvious red flag. Finally, the rudeness of that waitress, demanding that their surprise fee, for which I’m really not receiving ANYTHING in return, be paid as if that was part of the menu that we’re able to taste or enjoy. It turned out that apparently, it was readable in a small fine print that they were able to show us from a different/secret menu (the menu shown to customers, in the image below, never displays additional charges.) that we were never shown during the time there. I have filed a report with the regulatory authorities (FTC’s Consumer Protection Bureau, OAG of Nevada and The BBB) for this unlawful and shady practice and I want a complete refund to my account for the unacceptable service that I received.

We had such a joyful experience dining there. Food was fresh and delicious. Service is fast and welcoming.

Everyone that worked there was so kind and very attentive. As for my lunch I had order a BLT and I can honestly say that my bacon taste premade it wasn’t fresh and hard to chew on. Luckily the french fries were so soft and tasty.

For years, we've longed to visit the mountains, but my old vehicle made the trip challenging. Now, with time on my side, I finally headed back to Mount Charleston. I used to love sipping hot cocoa at the lodge, but since it burned down, this restaurant was the best nearby option. Before going, I checked reviews, and something seemed off about the mixed feedback. Still, I convinced my wife to join me for a Father's Day dinner to see for ourselves, and I'm glad we did. Upon arrival, we found plenty of seating and a cozy, relaxing atmosphere. The hostess seated us by a window with a stunning view after swapping with another couple. Our server, Nick, was exceptional. His attentive service stood out, not just at our table but with other guests too. Despite some reviews mentioning slow or inattentive service from staff, our experience was flawless. I even observed other waiters and didn't see any issues. Nick recommended a unique starter, the Crispy Artichoke, which was absolutely delicious. We ordered two alcoholic drinks and our meals, and everything arrived perfectly timed. The food was flavorful, with generous portions we took home. My wife's dish was packed neatly, and Nick even included extra ranch dressing for my salad. This visit exceeded expectations. After yearning to escape Las Vegas's 113°F heat, this charming spot was the perfect retreat. We'll definitely return soon for another quick, delicious getaway. Thank you!

Very very disappointed with what’s become of this restaurant. We used to come up her 2-3 times per winter to enjoy the snow and just relax. Two visits ago we came up, the prices were going up. They still had a full menu and the place seemed semi-busy still. Frustrated with how it had become, we decided not to come up as often. The last time we came up, all they had was a buffet, of which we felt was pretty expensive, but we did it anyway, this time, the kids wanted to go up again and just enjoy the cloudy rainy day. When we got there (Christmas Eve) we were told it was only a Christmas buffet, no menu to choose from. While I do understand they want to do something slightly different, we did NOTTT expect what we came into. The price for an adult was $60, children were $20 each. I have a family of 5. All we wanted to do was enjoy a nice lunch. I should have known something was off when I first walked in and saw a total of 2 people sitting in there eating. A trip that was worth it for the views of the rain, fog and temps, ended with hungry kids that we couldn’t even feed due to the unreasonably priced buffet. Think about it, this would be have been $180 BEFORE tax and BEFORE tip. We would have been out of here at around $225 MINIMUM! 3 Kids who would have eaten a total of half of one adult were $20 each??!! Officially, we will no longer be coming here for food, ever. The reviews over the past year say it all. So sad. This place held so many family memories and the new owners of the restaurant portion have destroyed it. Slowly, the rest of us natives to Vegas will stop going here as well. Word to the owner of this restaurant, put it back the way it was years ago. Make it affordable, and you might still have a chance. Remember the old lodge at the very top of the road before it burned down? Always packed! Why? Good food and affordable prices!!!! Until then, you will continue to suffer. I’d rather drive 35 minutes to Lee canyon and eat at big horn grill and pay for their slightly overpriced food than eat here. So unfortunate.

We decided to try the Thanksgiving buffet at The Retreat at Mount Charleston's Canyon Restaurant this year, and overall it was a mixed experience with a lot of potential. We arrived around 11 am and the atmosphere was pretty lackluster. The buffet was advertised to open at 11, but it didn't actually open until 11:30, which was when our reservation was scheduled. Unfortunately the bar was closed at that time, and the small lobby shop didn't offer anything like wine, beer, or a simple cocktail to enjoy while waiting, so that wasn't great. The lobby itself was in the early stages of being decorated for the holidays. The tree wasn't lit, the large fireplace wasn't lit, staff just were starting to hoist the large sleigh onto the top of the reception area, and there was no music. When the buffet finally opened, we waited in line for about five to ten minutes while the guests with 11 am reservations went in first. No big deal. We were then seated in the main dining room, while some other guests were being seated directly in the buffet room, which was a completely separate large event space connected to it. The main dining room had no decorations whatsoever and was playing classic hard rock music. I asked to be seated by a window but was told a hard no, even though I saw open window tables and watched guests who arrived after us being seated there. Meanwhile, the buffet room had a pretty Christmas tree and soft holiday music playing. There were plenty of empty tables in that room, and honestly it would have made more sense to seat all of the earliest guests in there since the buffet was there, the views were gorgeous, and the ambiance was actually festive. The buffet itself was very good. The variety and taste were true to a classic Thanksgiving spread--turkey, turkey legs, ham, salmon, stuffing, green beans, rolls, fresh fruit, cranberry sauce, gravy, yams, salad, soup, stuffed mushrooms, and more. The desserts included pumpkin and apple pie with whipped cream canisters nearby, which was a cute touch. Our server was excellent: friendly, timely, and really on top of everything. At one point I asked the bartender for a Sprite for my 5-year-old because our server was busy, but the bartender wouldn't give it to me since she said it needed to be entered on our tab. I reminded her that beverages were included in the buffet price, but she still said no. Thankfully our server came over quickly and took care of it herself. Later, the music in our dining room stopped, so I asked a staff member if music could be turned on. When it came back, it was more hard classic rock, which didn't match the holiday meal vibe at all. The pricing was $65 per adult and I believe $30 for my 5-year-old. Even though she only ate fruit, I completely understand still being charged. I do think the price was a bit high for what the overall experience offered, but I didn't mind paying it because the snow and mountain views really are beautiful and part of the draw. We've visited the Retreat at Mount Charleston many times, but this was our first time trying the buffet. The mountain setting is beautiful, and the place has so much potential--especially during the holidays. With a little more intention--holiday décor fully set up, the fireplace lit, a drink option while waiting, warm lighting, consistent holiday music, maybe even live music--it would be truly magical. It just feels like whoever manages it doesn't really care to bring it to that level, which is disappointing because the potential is right there. All that said, the food was very good and our server was great. I genuinely hope they give more attention to the ambiance next year, because this location could easily become a holiday tradition for a lot of families if they embraced the atmosphere as much as they do the menu.

I came here with family. Waitress was friendly. For food, we got the nachos with steak on top, fig flatbread, fried chicken sandwich, shroom melt, and fish and chips. The quality of food was well under the expectations based on the prices. My wife and mother in law mentioned that there was no toilet paper or covers in the bathroom.

Overpriced, cold food, and extremely slow service. They could do so much with the space, but instead, they leave it looking like a trailer park with random, busted tables (sans chairs), broken corn hole boards, and trash all around. FWIW, they have like 5 picnic tables that do have seating. +1 star bc the beer was also cold, and if you look away from the "restaurant", the view is nice.

So, I know this review will surprise some people. We drove past the 'The Resort on Mt. Charleston' a few months ago and tagged it as a place to go whenever we had time to revisit the area. We were delighted to learn later that the Resort/Hotel had a restaurant! We decided to drive up to Mt. Charlston on a free Saturday, with tremendous expectations as the resort looked so lovely from afar. When we pulled up, we were surprised to see a slightly worn-out facility. The view was spectacular, but the hotel was run-down. Our hopes for the restaurant were not optimistic, but I am always down for an adventure. The hotel/resort was nearly empty & very well worn. (I honestly think a good cleaning and some small repairs could do wonders for this place.) The restaurant, which is inside the hotel, also showed signs of age & needing some updating. Surprisingly, the restaurant offered some nice, although limited menu items. I ordered a burger, as a good burger is actually hard to find. It was excellent! Fresh & bursting with fresh grilled flavor! The accompanying french fries were perfectly seasoned & cooked. The onion rings which my date had ordered were probably the best onion rings I've ever had! The beer was cold; the iced tea was freshly brewed. Absolutely delicious! We will be back here for sure, as we're eager to try some of the other menu items to see if they're as good as the burgers. So, despite the slightly dilapidated hotel & outdated restaurant, the food alone is worth swinging by for. Oh, and the view is nothing to scoff at!

As regular hikers on Mt. Charleston, we've stopped into the Retreat more times than I can count -- whether for a post-hike drink at the bar or a sit-down meal. And every time, we can't help but wonder: is anyone running this place actually aware that the lodge burned down? Seriously -- this could've been their moment. A little polish, a menu upgrade, maybe a staff pep talk? Instead, it's as if they're saying, "You want better? Go drive down the mountain." The food? Let's call it satisfactory -- edible, but not memorable. Service? Hit or miss. Today we waited about 25 minutes to be seated while empty tables just sat there looking bored. No "we'll be right with you," no smile, no acknowledgment for about 20 minutes. Just vibes. I will give a shoutout to Ronee, who was our server today -- she was actually friendly and had a good attitude, which felt like a small miracle. So yeah, if you're looking for a halfway-decent burger and a beer with unpredictable service, this is the best option for miles. Literally. But it still feels like a missed opportunity wrapped in mountain air.

Good, not great. The resort itself is cool - a bit dated and needs some rehab, but still cool. The restaurant is a nice, big, open area with plenty of windows. Our service was excellent, beers could have been a little colder - but not his fault. This was our second time here - and quite frankly, we were looking forward to their Sidewinder fries - only to find out that they switched to regular fries. Complete bummer. The new fries are decent, but no Sidewinders. My fish and chips were good. We really like this resort, but it could be a lot better with some updates. Bring back the Sidewinder fries !!!!!!!!

Amazing service, beautiful dining area and 10/10 fish and chips! Came here after a hike and tried their fish and chips and was honestly blown away by how good they were! It was 3 sizable pieces of cod, freshly fried with a really great remoulade sauce. The service was so good and I really felt like they cared about my experience. Yes it's a little pricey, but that's also to be expected being in the mountains. Overall 5 stars and would recommend to anyone looking to get a bite out here!

Mindy was our Server/Bartender and her energy was amazing. We sat by the window so we can see the snow while we ate and enjoyed the view. We had the Buffalo Wings, Caesar salad, Burger, and Spaghetti for our lunch. Everything turned out amazing considering this isn't a high class restaurant. Definitely would recommend Mindy for your server. As you can tell by the picture we tried to eat everything but got pretty full

Awe this poor poor place. I swear as much as everyone wants this place to survive I'm surprised it's still around! The owners must just need a tax write off or something....theres no way this place makes money and can survive on it. I ordered the $40 ribeye and it was rough! Rough as in you couldn't even chew one bite, no matter where I cut it off the steak! I tried... Salad was good though! Views are nice. Restaurant is outdated. Server was nice and friendly! That was the highlight of that visit. I think for dinner tonight I'll drive into the city. Ain't chancing another terrible dinner on this staycation. Womp womp. Plus side, they had a full bar! Yippee!!

Visited Lee Canyon with the kids and needed dinner. Baked ziti was huge and satisfying. My 3 kids loved it.

We stayed at the lodge. We ate breakfast and dinner here twice! The breakfast was delicious and filling. They had a lot of options and were flexible with subbing items (like I subbed bacon for turkey sausage). The salmon I ate during dinner was absolutely DELICIOUS. The rice with the salmon was sweet which I liked. My boyfriend didn't like how sweet it was so it definitely depends on the person. The salmon and asparagus were perfectly cooked and tasted fresh. They also have a full open bar at the restaurant so we were able to order some cocktails. All of our servers were kind and knowledgeable. When I'm back in Mt. Charleston I would definitely come back.

Beautiful elevated seating area and friendly staff. Large portions. Only food that missed the mark were the Brussels sprouts because they were boiled then battered and fried.

Food is good. The only thing was the chips were beyond salty. Service was great though. I would go back.

Facility needs attention and food was disappointing. The Seared Tuna was over cooked and tasted if butane. The service however was exceptional.

A friend and I went up to Mt. Charleston recently. We live in Las Vegas and just wanted the nice drive that day. We decided to stop at the retreat to check it out as I have been living in Las Vegas for 20 years and have never been inside. We were pleasantly surprised to find the CANYON restaurant within with items on the menu we wanted to try and we were both very hungry. It took about 10 minutes to be seated but we liked the interior very much, once inside. It was very relaxing and we loved the real tree right in the middle of everything. We got seated by the window for a meal with a view which was nice too. I have to say, this place completely exceeded our expectations! We were honestly blown away with how good and tasty all the food was. We ordered the CRISPY ARTICHOKE HEARTS, FIG FLATBREAD, HOMEMADE CHIPS & SALSA & JUMBO BRINED CHICKEN WINGS with SWEET THAI CHILI SAUCE. All four of these items would be easily rated A+ by us. I absolutely LOVED the crunch of the artichoke hearts and the Aioli on it. The smoky flavor of the Fig Flatbread and the crispy chickpeas on it were beyond delicious. I could eat it everyday! The Sweet Thai Chili sauce on the chicken wings was so good we asked if they would do up some shrimp the same way and the Salsa & Chips with the red salsa were so yummy that we each got an order to take home as well. We didn't want to stop eating! Also want to try the Fish & Chips and the Baked Ziti soon so we will definitely be returning again in the near future. Our server, Krystal, was lovely. She was very friendly and helpful and we could tell she really enjoyed working at Canyon. We would HIGHLY recommend checking this place out. We do plan to return over and over again, now that we know it's there. We want to try many more of the items on the menu. The only minor complaint I have is that I wish they would have either a bottled spring water or bottled sparkling water such as Pellegrino or Perrier available. Maybe in the future? That would make it all just PERFECT.

I ordered the chili for lunch and was disappointed that it was not hot, then, for dinner, we ordered the NY Steak, they were super chewy, and again, the food temp wasn't hot. The servers were friendly.

This place is fantastic. The chili is some of the best I have ever had. If you are ever in the mood to take the beautiful drive up Mount Charleston and enjoy a nice bowl of chili, this is the perfect place to stop along the way. the service was so good and the food was even better!

I've tried their baked ziti before and it was quite good! Tonight, however, I tried it again, and although it was still good, there was way less pasta and sauce (which is the best part) and what seemed like a POUND of mozzarella cheese melted on top. It was just too much--to the point of being unappetizing. I had to scrape most of it off in order to get to the pasta. I'm hoping this was just a fluke because their food has improved significantly over the past couple of years, since the current owner took over.
