The White Horse

We stopped by The White Horse Restaurant and had such a great experience. The fish and chips were perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside — not greasy at all. The sweet potato fries were excellent, and the lemon wedge on the side added a nice fresh touch. For dessert, we tried the peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream, and it was absolutely delicious — warm, comforting, and just the right sweetness. It went perfectly with a cup of coffee. The service was friendly and relaxed, and the food came out hot and fresh. Overall, a cozy, welcoming place with food that’s clearly made with care. Definitely worth a visit!

My girlfriend and I stopped by after hiking and it was worth it. She had the chicken pot pie, I got the NY strip, and we shared the truffle mac & cheese and chocolate soufflé — everything was delicious. The place was busy so we sat at the bar, but the bartender was super friendly and attentive. Overall, great food and cozy atmosphere. Would definitely come back!

Very special place with all the best comfort and pub fare in a living breathing reliquary type setting. Everyone was super nice and we filled up after a long day of driving. I think I had the shepards pie and the meatloaf. My goodness took me back to my grandmas cooking. Just walking around and seeing all artifacts was a trip. Def pulling up here anytime we near this area.

The place has a lovely outside view and the waitress was really friendly. The pink horse and the coconut shrimp were delicious. We also ordered the short ribs plate which had pasta and was big enough for sharing.

On our way from PA to MA we decided to stop here and even made a 40-minute detour specifically for this place. Unfortunately, it wasn’t really worth it. The service was good and the location is nice — I can imagine it being especially lovely in the summertime. However, the food itself was pretty average. My Reuben sandwich was disappointing: it didn’t have corned beef and wasn’t served on rye bread — instead it came with white bread and regular ham. Honestly, it felt like something I could have picked up at a random stop along I-84. Overall, it was okay, but not worth going out of the way for.

The white horse is a great place for a night out. The staff was wonderful and made us feel welcome. The food was ok, nothing was bad but nothing was great either. We had the scallop appetizer, ny steak, and the steak frites. The clear standout was dessert, we had the nutella cheesecake with a side of vanilla ice cream. The cheesecake was very rich so the ice cream was a necessary addition. We are going to go back and try more food, maybe we can find something to get excited about.

Dinner with the fam tonight. Made reservations last weekend and asked to sit by the fire on the Pub side. We had a great experience from the moment we walked in and were seated by the fireplace, our server was attentive and friendly, along with the bartender who brought us our drinks. The pace of the courses was perfect, our meals came out piping out and were delicious. Pub steak, Short Rib Stroganoff, Steak Frites Bernaise, Drunken shrimp with tomato & asparagus risotto, Caesar salad, chicken crunch tenders. I would highly recommend it all! Dirty Martinis came with 3 fat olives- a meal in itself! Espresso Martini was excellent. Unfortunately, no room for dessert. Maybe next time!

Lovely bistro next to a peaceful creek. The service is excellent and the extensive American-based menu has something for everyone. Anglo historians would enjoy the owner's extensive collection of authentic centuries old British documents. The White Horse is very reasonably priced for the quality of food, service and ambience .

Great food and service. Ordered the house burger and bannoffee pie for dessert. I was there from 7:15-8:15. I came in and the waitress told me there's only a high top available. I was just happy there was a table because it was packed. People came over and made sure the food was good. The woman in the table behind me had an annoying laugh and that's why I stood up to let someone know that I wanted to leave as quickly as possible.

Totally overrated tourist spot. Went because I had a gift card. Unfortunately had a terrible experience... Here is why: Service: By far, some of the worst service I've had in a long time, for multiple reasons. 1) Once seated, we sat there for at least 20 minutes, maybe more, I am not kidding, before anyone came over to acknowledge us. Nothing like feeling like you're forgotten about... Eventually, someone walked over with a surprised look on their face and asked if we got water, which we replied 'no'. 2) A few minutes later, the waitress came over with water, but spilt a bunch on our table. Spilling the water wasn't the problem. The problem was that she never came back with napkins. There was water dripping off the side of the table by the time someone else came over with napkins... Forgotten about, again... 3) Ordered apps, meals, and drinks all at the same time since we already had like 30 mins to view to menu by now and were totally ready and afraid of getting forgotten about again.... Again... More waiting, after another 10 mins, STILL no drinks. Then, the app comes out. We got escargot. 4) The waitress asked if we wanted silverware. Like, WTF? If you see the photo, it isn't a finger food. What a strange question. Don't they just give out silverware per standard? Never ask, just bring it... Also, they returned with only 1 silverware setting (I was with my wife), and then had to come back later with another set for the wife. Totally wacky and unorganized. Overall, just bad bad bad bad service. I don't get it... This place has been in business for a long time, but it was running worse than a McDonald's. Food: Not bad. Not great. Not worth making the trip out here. Escargot was actually pretty good, but it was saturated in butter and garlic. I had a burger. It was very bland. The beef seemed like good quality, but it was overcooked (ordered medium rare, received medium, see photo). Ambiance: It's an old pub. Nothing special. I suppose there is history. They have some old trinkets around, like a piece of George Washington's wife's dress. But who cares, really? it's like a fancy Cracker Barrel. Those little artifacts don't matter when the service and food are sub-par.

Disappointed. This place is always on favorites lists and we were excited to try it, only to be very Disappointed. We were originally seated outside and no one came over to us at all for over 20 minutes. We went inside and were reseated. There seemed to be more confusion as to who was attending to our table. When we were finally asked for our order, we inquired about the sandwiches-- was the ham, turkey, etc. roasted in house? Nope. Nothing special here but what we got was decent. Prices are reasonable. It is very popular but we aren't likely to return.

I stopped by for another dinner recently and decided to switch up my order. I started off with a spicy margarita - delish! Instead of my go-to chicken pot pie, I tried the veggie burger. The burger was huge and flavorful. I appreciated that the fries were half regular and half sweet potato. I finished my dinner with "Chocolate with Friends" - oh my goodness...one of the best desserts I've had in a long time! I can't wait to come back for another satisfying meal!

My family and I used to dine at the Marbledale pub a few times a month while growing up in New Milford in the 90's. The white horse met and exceeded all expectations, and I can say the atmosphere, food, and history of the restaurant really brought me back in time. The French onion soup, wings, and meatloaf dish were all delicious. Service was top notch, everyone seemed to help each other out. It was a great experience, we will be back next time we are in town!

I absolutely love this place. It is located right on the water. You can have indoor or outdoor seating. There are two different outdoor seating areas and two separate indoor areas one near the bar and one not. It's kind of dark inside, I always choose to sit outside. You definitely want to make a reservations to this restaurant. They have really cute drinks some come with little rubber duckies in them and the desserts come with little Buddhas and decorations on the plate. The pot pie comes with a horse on top made out of puff pastry it is delicious! The pot pie is a must-have! This time I went they were pretty busy so the service was a little slow but the food was so good! This is a place I go to after I visit Kent falls as it's close by. The menu is Middle to high price range. Yelp will not load any files so I can't put pictures until it fix's

Monday I took myself to the White Horse I had been there 3 years ago with my son and his wife We ate outside and enjoyed our meal very much I live on the Cape so I do not come to Ct very much Because I loved it, I decided to come again I had a main waitress , Pat, who was very nice and answered any question that I had I even had three more waitress check on me throughout my meal I ordered the onion soup because it had so many good reviews I was not disappointed It was hot and delicious Wish I knew the secret ingredients I opt for the Salmon salad because it had everything I like in it My final dish was the chocolate triple skillet brownie with its own signature of the white horse All of the extra niceties made me feel that I had made the right choice of restaurants before leaving the area I hope I do not have to wait another 3 years before coming back

I want to preface this review by saying that I never want to disparage a local business. With that said, I do pride myself on sharing an honest portrayal of my encounter and will continue to do that honestly and sincerely. My experience at The White Horse Country Pub was extremely disappointing. To highlight the positives, the glassware was fine and the olives were quite tasty. My martini was served in a cold glass but mixed with too much vermouth. My burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare but served with soggy bacon on top and soggy fries on the side. I did appreciate the unique mix of steak fries and sweet potato fries but I wished they were cooked thoroughly. My ultimate displeasure during my time here was the service. The bar staff and waitstaff were too invested in the needs of each other to be attentive to the guests' needs. It appeared that there were no defined employee roles and this resulted in me being overlooked while sitting at the bar. During my visit, my martini, soda, and water were never refilled. I was so thirsty by the end that I had to ask for my check so that I could leave to quench my thirst elsewhere. I also witnessed multiple guests who had to come to the bar with their billfolds from their tables both inside and outside of the restaurant to close their tabs. Staff members were on their phones, conversing in the back, eating while working, and more. From my perspective, the standards of professionalism here are very low and that created a chaotic and unpleasant guest experience. Stopped in +- 4:00 on Sunday with friends on the way home from Mt Tom State park. FOOD: Chilli Nachos, French onion soup, Fish and chips and burger were all very good. SERVICE; greeted friendly at door, accommodated us with a table next to the fireplace and was greeted immediately by our waitress, and the food was served within 15 minutes by other servers all seemingly working together. AMBIANCE; Did not do much recon, but a darker interior which was light enough to see and read your menu, plus multiple fireplaces added a nice touch on a cold wintery afternoon. Nicely located central bar but from what i could tell, not a very good view of the river out back if you sat directly at the bar. Looked like a great outdoor dining patio overlooking a nicely flowing river, would go back to check that out once warm weather is here. Look for updates!!!

Had the veggie burger with British fries, really good! Had Buffalo chicken spring rolls as an appetizer and that was great as well. Service was excellent. A lot to choose from on the menu.

Meh... we moved here 20 years ago and this was a great, reliable destination for food, drink and atmosphere for several years. Then it went rapidly downhill and we gave up a couple of years ago. Tonight we wanted a destination and thought we'd try again. Wish we hadn't bothered. The service was fine, but the kitchen obviously doesn't care any more (and didn't last time we came). The fish and chips (supposedly a flag-ship) was cold, greasy and they hadn't bothered to separate out the last order's sweet potato fries. The beef bourguignon pie was wonderfully hot but the vegetables weren't fully cooked and the gravy was thin. And why would you not have chips or mash on the side??? No cocktails on the menu in 2025? The whole place feels like a cash cow for owners that no longer care, a "safe" place to take Granny on Sunday. We won't be giving it another chance unless something major changes, and jeez, we're Brits - how embarrassing that this is meant to be "British food". What a shame.

I had a wonderful visit to the white horse country pub. It really felt like a unique off the road find, but we were actually recommended by several of the locals we were working with in Danbury. I was really taken in by the historical aesthetic and the character that just surrounds you in this place. It's also huge for just a small building off the side of the road. Lots of seating and a beautiful patio by the river when weather is permitting. We ordered more than we could possibly list here, but I will say that the fish and chips were excellent and the seafood boil was enough to feed an army. Come hungry and leave entranced!

I'm updating my review after several recent visits. Go across the street to 202 instead. Their salads are excellent and you can sit outside by the river with your dog. White Horse is not dog friendly, in fact, you are policed with your service credentials, if you even have them. That's not my true issue with the place, however. Each and every visit I leave disappointed. If something wasn't wrong with the meal, then it's inevitably something off with staff. It's simply not a satisfying place despite all the hype. And, I'm not alone. So many people I talk to feel the same way. I wish it weren't the case as you think the White Horse is going to be fun. Sadly each visit I leave unhappy and disappointed at the $ spent.

We always think of White Horse in the spring and summer. Sitting on the deck overlooking the river is peaceful. Food is always very good. Service is wonderful. In the winter time, sitting in the room with a fireplace is nice also!

Always a line to get in this place. Yes, the atmosphere is relaxed and the venue is agréable. However, the food is closer to 2 stars. Incapable of respecting the cooking requests, soggy French fries...not impressed. I guess people go there for the ambiance and the comfort of family or friend's reunion rather than the food itself.

Great little place. Excellent drink menu. Waiter was funny and made great martinis. Appetizer choices are excellent.

If Ken from the Barbie movie ever crosses back into the real world, he'll be so happy at the White Horse Country Pub. Horses are EVERYWHERE. Outside on the sign, inside as art, as a coat hook, everywhere you look. It's amazing this was ever known as the Marbledale Pub, it seems so impossible with all the horses now. There's a fair amount of parking, but an auxiliary lot in the back. I suspect parking by the post office across the street is now frowned upon, despite the adventure it provided dodging cars on 202. Inside there's pub seating, and dining room seating with some outside on a patio. The dining room has mostly tables with two booths. There's a lot of wood and colonial inspiration in the decoration. The restrooms are a little small, and behind saloon doors so proceed in and out with caution. The food is delicious! The nachos have real, hot, stringy cheese. The chicken with goat cheese was perfectly cooked and with the noodle side, a great value that gave lunch the next day. Our server was on the ball for drinks, although a pitcher of water perhaps should have been offered earlier.

I was looking forward to visiting the place, my friend had heard good things about it from her grandma. Our appetizer was the spinach dip, a blended and liquid cream of spinach with a piece of cheese so hard on the top it was tough even to cut. I had the burger, which was ordered medium rare and came out very well done, with the patty cold. Reordered and it came medium well done, with the patty crumbling to the touch. The bacon was soggy, and so were the french fries and sweet potato fries. My friend had fish and chips, the chips and the fish tasted like it was fried in old oil, very greasy and way too dark. Very disappointing.

The Whitehorse Country Pub and Restaurant has won several awards over the years. I just love the atmosphere whether dining inside in one of their three dining rooms with two fireplaces, or dining outside on one of their four patios overlooking the river and waterfall. Today I order the Superior Fish and Chips. Three pieces of fresh cod in a light golden fried batter with British chips. (a combination of sweet potato fries, and steak fries.) My wife ordered the Country Cobb Salad with greens, tomatoes, avocado, eggs, applewood smoked bacon,and blue cheese. She also chose to add a 8 ounce grilled chicken breast to her salad. We were both very pleased with our meals. The service was just OK.

The food was excellent. The service was a bit slow. It was President's Day so they may have been short staff. Our calamari was luke warm. But honestly to our surprise the calamari was still good. Nice big rings, fresh, and the least amount of chewy calamari could have. The chili soup was Amazing! We for sure want to go back soon for dinner.

Good news was we were able to get a table after our previous restaurant canceled due to a power outage. Arrived for a 6:15 reservation and were seated immediately. Waited for 25 minutes before we were able to order drinks. Waited another 15 minutes before the drinks arrived. Beer was no longer cold when it arrived. Ordered food as soon as the drinks arrived. Burgers were good but my wife's was overcooked and the 8 fries, 3 British and 5 sweet potato, made for a very meager side dish for my burger. Would have mentioned something but no staff came back to the table to check whether we were happy with the meal. Finished eating and would have ordered dessert but sat for another 15 minutes with empty plates in front of us. Finally asked one of the bus staff if we could get our check so we could leave.

Finally, I was able to get to the restaurant only to be disappointed. Although the Cod in my fish and chips was tender I suspect the oil it was cooked in was old, greasy dark coating. Should never be compared to "British" fish and chips. The crab cake was overdone, again very brown outside and dry of course. The lobster "flavored" bisque was just that! The bread pudding was fabulous! Our waiter's uninvited life story was very weird to say the least!!!!

We haven't been here in several years. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and went to Hopkins Vineyard so we made a reservation here for 5:15. We got here about 25 minutes early. We told the hostess we were quite early but she said she was going to check on our table. She came back and said the people at that table were paying their bill. Several other party of twos came in with the same reservation time and were seated. We finally spoke up and said we are a party of two and we had the same reservation time. She went again to check on table (we hadn't requested a special table). She came back and said yes you can be seated. My husband ordered lobster bisque which he said was pretty bland. I had crab cake appetizer which I've had before and that was good. I ordered steak frites bearnaise which I liked. My husband ordered short rib stroganoff special which he said was underwhelming. Our server, Harry, was very good at least. We won't be back here though. Too far to travel for mediocre food and a hostess who forgot us even though we were standing right in front of her.

Went there last week for mid-week lunch. Overall the food was very good and the service was friendly (Janine (?) was the server - very nice person.) We sat outside on the covered deck overlooking the stream. The stream was running pretty fast due to the recent rains, making for a nice background. The only negative thing was the flies. They were constantly buzzing around and very annoying. I think the restaurant's trash bin was right on the other side of the fence from the back deck. We ordered the shrimp & risotto entree as an appetizer (there were four of us) along with crab cakes. All very good. The other lunch items - meat loaf sandwich, hamburger, pot pie were all excellent. Dessert was banofi pie and "chocolate with friends" - suggested by Janine. Good choices and All really delicious. Look for the white horse somehow marked on all the dishes

This was such a quaint, cozy spot for a delicious lunch! The ambience, service, and food were top notch. It's a really beautiful pub with fireplaces lit, wooden beams, and an overall lovely British vibe. We thoroughly enjoyed our drinks and meals. The prices were reasonable and all portions were quite generous. We started our meals with delicious, fruity sangrias - one peach and one red. We shared the Pear and Blue Cheese salad. (This was easily shared with two people but was definitely big enough to enjoy as a main!) It was packed with dried cranberries, bacon bits, walnuts, and cheese. So flavorful! For our entrees we both ordered pot pies - the seafood pot pie and chicken pot pie. I would highly recommend ordering either!! The presentation for the chicken pot pie was beautiful! It was so fun to see it topped with a horse. They piped mashed potatoes around the rim of the pot pie which was a delicious addition to the already delicious pie. The White Horse Country Pub is well worth the trip. Looking forward to returning and trying some of the other menu items.

I honestly was super disappointed at the service I received. I've worked as a host at a restaurant before- I know how a rush can be, but to be spoken to the way I was, truly disappointing. This past week it was my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I knew they were heading here for lunch around 130. I called at about 140 to see what my options were for being able to pay. The first time I asked, the hostess said "let me ask, please hold".... 10 minutes later she never returned. I hung up and called again. I think a different host answered. I asked her my request... her response was "we can only do that if you buy a gift card and put it towards the meal" ... fine, I understand card over the phone for a bill can be complicated. She then asks me what the reservation was under. I was not sure what time or what name, I live out of state and this was a surprise. After giving her a few names it could possibly be under, She was getting increasingly frustrated with me. Mind you, I remained pleasant, friendly, and patient on the phone the whole time. I understand, they sounded busy. I said- my parents look distinct and I know what they're wearing (my mom sent me pictures) and finally she goes "we are WAY to busy to go searching for your parents by description"... just her tone was so rude. AGAIN, I get it. All she had to say was "at this moment we are really busy to carry this out, can I call you back" or can we do this another time whatever. She did not have to be so rude. At that, I said never mind and hung up. My parents never got to have their meal paid for by me, I ended up having to do it for their dinner elsewhere. I just think that FOH should be trained alittle better on how to remain polite even when they're busy. It's not that hard.

While there have been a number of negative reviews for this restaurant lately, here's one for the positive side. On a beautiful, sunny late Spring day, I had lunch on the patio overlooking the stream. I had a yen for a fish filet sandwich. I asked for a substitute for the British fries and was immediately accommodated with a house salad. My server, Yana , was utterly charming and quite attentive. They even had one of my favorite white burgundies to accompany my meal. The only inconvenience is the highway noise that occasionally interfered with the otherwise lovely experience (not their fault). Will definitely be back.

Perfect spot to celebrate a special birthday. Our waitress Jen could not have been more helpful. She offered suggestions on what to eat, and even promised to pay for our meal if we didn't love the chicken tika wrap she recommended! Everything was delicious but the chicken pot pie won the prize for tastiest and best presentation. We ended the meal with a chocolate volcano cake with vanilla ice cream.. which we all helped the birthday girl consume. We sat outside and enjoyed the roaring brook and beautiful sun. I can't wait to come back and bring others to this beautiful restaurant.

Consistent excellent food, atmosphere and staff. Always a pleasure to visit. It has a unique decor.

We moved to Sherman CT 2 years ago and this restaurant became one of our 2 favorite places to go. We like to sit at the bar for dinner and we liked the vibe and the people who worked there. We frequently had great conversations with other diners. This all recently changed. Around 2 months ago we were there and there was a group of people at the beginning of the bar that were very loud and DRUNK. One of the people we recognized as a waitress we have seen working there. This group was constantly swearing and were not acting appropriately in my eyes. I went and spoke to the MOD, Chad, and he said that one of the group had just lost someone close to them and that was why they were there. He asked them to quiet down. That lasted about 10 minutes and then the noise and swearing continued. The group was then heard "mocking" the people who had made the complaint. Chad did nothing more about the problem. We got the feeling he didn't care about our complaint, that we as paying customers were not important. We did go back a month later and then again last night. We noticed that there were many new employees, only a few we recognized. There was a new bartender who was nice but not was struggling to keep up. Last night we started with the Brussels sprouts, which we have had many times and have loved them. Last night they were horrible! They were drenched in sauce, the Brussels sprouts were not cut well and the insides of them were not even warm. Very disappointing. My husband and I both got the Chicken Tikka Masala, which we have also had many times and it too was not anywhere near as good as usual. The chicken pieces were also not cut well, some very large and others the usual size. My husband had Guinness and that was poured with 3 inches of head on the top. Not much of a beer! And the bartender, same new one from last time, was swamped and having a hard time filling drink orders and waiting on her tables and tending to those at the bar. The service was not good. We did speak with the MOD last night because we felt it was important for here to know how we felt. She listened and said she was sorry and took the Guinness off the bill. I have nothing bad to say about her. She was very good. She had even stepped in to help out the bartender. I am hoping that The White Horse Tavern can back to being the way it was when we first started going there!

Had reservation for wrong day. Was seated in an out of the way location near outside door. Server took order, delivered food. Never came back to check on us or refill ice teas. Ordered beef to be medium rate received dried out well done. Had to ask another server to find ours so we could leave

Disappointing. I've been to this restaurant in the past and it has been outstanding. Haven't been in 2 years. What happened??? Food was fair at best. Onion rings were soggy and soaked with grease. Sandwiches were just ok. Bread was def bought a a grocery store. Not worth the 2 hour drive we made to have lunch

Always great staff. Always good food and drinks. There's really something for everyone. Also, the options of indoor/outdoor seating and the general ambiance for both is a big plus. Not too mention the river running past the back seating area.

English pub atmosphère. Meat loaf shepherds pie etc. Ate near the fireplace with friends. Very cozy. Great spot.

The old English country pub atmosphere is perfect all year, but especially around the holidays when there is a crackling fire on the hearth. The decor is mingled with historical artifacts that are amazing if it is not busy and you have the time to wander a bit. The White Horse has become our tradition for New Year's Eve since moving to CT, although we eat here other times as well. Tonight I had the Beef Wellington which is not something you eat every week! It's especially nice to have a hearty meal on a winter night. I've not had a meal here I didn't enjoy, but some special shoutouts to the Short ribs, Meatloaf and Shepherd's Pie. I don't want to miss dessert because they all are good, but my husband and are enamored with the Banoffee Pie. If you've not ever had, this is the place to try it!

My husband and I eat here often, it's a favorite spot of ours. Every meal we have had has been very good! The burgers, muscles, salads, and any of the entrees, like prime rib or even vegetarian options, all delicious!! The drinks we've had have been very good as well, whether it's mixed drinks or sangria. The desserts have all been great too! Although we usually get chocolate with friends, a sweet and salty dessert, with a chocolate crumb crust, ganache, caramel, peanuts and pretzel. They're often booked up, so we always call for a reservation. The servers and hosts we've met have all been nice and willing to help. In the wintertime, we love to sit indoors, especially close to the fireplace. And in the summer, the outdoors is beautiful.

So I just wanted to update a previous review. We had been to the Whitehorse approximately four years ago and had a negative experience. We have been back since and the quality of food is much more flavorful less salty less fatty. The staff was helpful kind. And the ambience was fantastic. They sat us right in front of the fireplace. It was for my birthday dinner and I really enjoyed the entire setting. We were comfortable the entire time and everyone was kind. We have also since been back at a larger family with my in-laws, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, etc. and had a brunch that was fantastic.

We were blown away by our dinner at White Horse Pub after years of drive-bys and recommendations from friends. After narrowing down the plentiful menu options, we were not let down by any of our selections. The roasted beet and goat cheese salad was a delicious start and perfectly portioned to share between two people. Our entrees were perfectly cooked and matched the tavern inspired atmosphere. The service was great and the drinks were strong. The chocolate with friends dessert was rich, creamy, and a chocolate lover's dream come true. We can't wait for our next visit to see what to try next.

After reading about this place we decided to make a day of it and brave the 1.5 hour drive from the shoreline to get the experience of an authentic English pub. Spot on! Everything as expected but no English accents. Caution, on final approach the gps lost signal. Fortunately I had Consumer Cellular which held the signal to the end. The place is a rustic old roadhouse with multiple rooms and outdoor patio. There might be some trick to parking. Not much in front and I can't imagine what they do for big events. When we return I will call first to find out. Our appetizers were saucy Brussels sprouts with chorizo and White Horse salad. This is huge and wife's dish came with salad so no salad appetizer next time. I had the shepherd's pie which was delicious and nice to look at. Mrs. had Vegetable Napoleon which she enjoyed immensely. Both were food art. My bread pudding was quite dense but included 2 different sauces so interesting and ok. Wife's sticky pudding also ok but we won't be going for the deserts. There is an antique Indian motorcycle behind the bar as well as many artifacts throughout. We were hoping to find an antique shop or flea market nearby but no luck. Maybe next time.

Nice for brunch as the outdoor seating by the rolling stream is so picturesque, the bar staff is talented and the service is steady. We have been in often for dinner as I enjoy their Seafood Bake rife with clams, mussels, shrimp, salmon, calamari, onions, corn, potatoes, garlic, fennel, pernod, white wine, and garlic toast. On the most recent visits our meals weren't as amazing as on many past visits. Perhaps there are some money saving step backs being implemented so we and our friends no longer come in as regularly. At this past morning brunch, the crab cakes were on the thin side and tasted prefab yet the coffee was excellent as were the Bloody Mary's.

The quality of the food has dropped. Too many disappointing comments to make here. Sad, the atmosphere and service is still the main reason to try.

We have had a good meal here in the past, last night our waitress was absolutely horrible. Sat at 745, had to call her to take order at 8. At 850 we asked someone to send her over, at 9 she came. We asked where our food was, she didn't seem to care. When two out of four meals showed up we waited another 7-10 min for the balance. When the seafood bake came without the bread we asked her for it and she said she'd order some but it doesn't come with. We've had this meal before, it definitely comes with. After that she filled our waters a few times but no apology or didn't seem to care about us at all..

We come here every year for our anniversary and always find something new to read or admire. Not only is the food delicious but the building is filled with beautiful historical items. Service has been wonderful time after time.
