Torero's Mexican Restaurant

Spacious and well decorated, quick and friendly service. The quesabirrias were amazing, and included a huge portion of rice and beans. The margaritas were decent and a good price, but my date said the "breaking bad" wasn't the best. My only complaint is that the salsa that came with the chips tasted like marinara sauce which put me off a bit.

Went to a few other locations. This location was great. Is located in an old rustic brick building downtown Durham. Atmosphere was great. Food was awesome. Drinks were good. Definitely tried if you’re in the area or never tried this restaurant before. Friendly staff food was very hot and delicious. We ordered the lunch fajitas and split cheese dip.

My husband and I came here for dinner, and I want to be clear that our server was an absolute sweetheart who provided amazing service. Unfortunately, the way this establishment treats its employees is disgusting, disheartening, and completely unfair. My husband received his $30 plate with barely any meat. He politely asked if something else could be done, and our server—very apologetically—took the plate back. We were then told that the $30 would be deducted from our server’s paycheck, as if it were somehow her fault that the plate was returned. That alone was shocking, but it got worse. Liz, who claimed to be a manager or was working the register, was rude and nasty to my family. She refused to allow the server to properly return the plate to the kitchen and still proceeded to charge the server for it. Servers already rely on tips to survive—why make them suffer even more for simply providing good customer service and advocating for a guest? This kind of business practice is crooked, unethical, and shameful. I was so disgusted by the situation that I didn’t even want to eat. We will never return to this establishment. The owners and management should be ashamed of themselves for punishing their staff for doing their jobs and treating people with basic respect.

I’ve been here 3 times before tonight and have loved this place. I invited my friends out tonight to celebrate a new milestone for my friend and even called when they first opened to make a reservation because I knew we had a big group. They said they could accommodate us, so we show up for our reservation and the hostess tries to tell us she doesn’t have a reservation even though I saw it on her whiteboard and pointed to it. They then sat us in the back of the restaurant and our server was a new girl who had a major attitude. As soon as we sat down, she said “ Can you guys just be on one check because splitting checks is hard”. Every time we tried to order a drink, she would only take one order and then walk away. the amount of times we had to call her back over to get other people‘s orders was actually insane. Then when we placed orders for our food, I was making an order to go and asked for my ACP with no peppers and she looks at me and goes. Have you been here before? And I said yes I have, to which she responded. Does the ACP even have peppers? To which I said yes it does. She then followed up with. Oh well I’m new here. When all of the food came out and she brought me my to go order it wasn’t even in a box. They put it between two paper plates, even though I saw all the boxes they had in the restaurant. I then asked for my check because I had to leave and she said sorry I put it all under one. I said can you not just split off mine? And then she just walked away. The service was so poor, orders were screwed up, one of my friends asked for more chips and another asked for salt three times and never got it. I really wanted to show my friends a restaurant that I thought was really good, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment. I will not be returning to this restaurant in the future which is a shame because I’ve never had a bad experience before today. The server and hostess both need to check their attitudes and learn something about customer service. I’ve never been more disappointed in a restaurant. Also, to add, we were the only people in the restaurant, so there is no reason that we shouldn’t have been given good Service.

Website time is incorrect. Went there for dinner at 8:50 pm and told we close at 9:30. Sign on door says 10 and website says 10. Food was fine but they told me I had to leave but yet two other people are there. I did not enjoy my dining experience and doubtful I come again and definitely not close to closing. I used to love this place but the staff is not customer friendly. Also, if you order food before 9, you should be able to eat the food there or tell customers they have to only get take out at 9 p.m.

after being a regular at the Cary branch I was curious to see how this fairs out.. Same food quality and prices, somehow the menu felt a little different and with more specials. churros came in a little cart , not my favorite but still cute and edible we ate early at 5:30 and it wasn't crowded so service was amazing there's a parking lot out front but it was full will be coming back ! the molcajete is our favorite and easily feeds 2-3 people.

It's a go-to for solid food and good drinks.

Really like the new location. Staff was very friendly but the server was very slow and no sense of urgency at all. We waited 20minutss to give a drink order. Even longer for the food order and unfortunately the communication was horrible with ordering but we were very patient with that. Food came out a ring and it was corrected quickly. Never saw waitress again. We had to walk up to the front to pay for the check because she never came back!!!

My friend and I came here to the Fernway Ave location in Durham and had a very pleasant lunch. My friend had the taco salad with chicken and I had one of the lunch specials with a beef taco, beef enchilada, refried beans and rice. It was tasty but nothing special. It's pretty standard Mexican restaurant fare. I really enjoyed the ambiance and service though. My only (minor) complaint would be the parking situation. We were lucky and got one of the last parking spots in the lot behind the restaurant. There's two hour street parking available but I don't like to parallel park. All in all it was a good experience.

The service is excellent, and the ambiance is festive with a lot of televisions. I unfortunately did not enjoy the food as much. It was on the bland side. Their dishes need more seasoning. My husband got the Torta. The bread did not taste fresh, and meat was not as flavorful as other Mexican restaurants in the area. If this aspect improves, then this restaurant would be a more frequent spot for me!

We liked this place. It was cute and the server was friendly. The food was good but pretty much what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. If we are in the area, I'm sure we'll be back.

Love, love, love Toreros! Started regularly going to Durham (downtown), then to Chapel Hill Blvd near South Square and finally Chapel Hill Blvd (Oak Creek). [RIP Ruben the best!] Now when we visit our son in Raleigh, we eat at Atlantic Ave. and when we visit our niece in Cary, we eat there! We all love Toreros's! Excellent ambience! Hope it is someone's birthday! Sopapias! We were once a week Toreros's family, the whole extended family! It is a great family restaurant! The service and food are excellent at all times! Wish there was a Toreros's near Shelby, NC!

Had a Bday party Sunday after church. Great service. Great food! Always a good Mexican restaurant to eat at !

Very disappointing, especially compared to the Roxboro location. Taquitos Rancheros the size and taste of something similar to frozen taquitos. Guacamole was served on both plates brown, and when asked for avacado instead, parts of it were brown too. Black beans were not flavorful. Staff barely paid attention to us. There were not many people here and we got put in the back corner.

If you know me you know I love big portions!!!! And that's what I got here. I was super happy with my portion, especially for the price. The lunch specials here are only about $10. That is an AMAZING deal for a sit-down restaurant with big portions. And I enjoyed my meal! I especially enjoyed the rice. The refried beans weren't my favorite though (I wanted more bean flavor and less butter / creamy flavor). Service and ambiance were really good too! I love when restaurants have really big water glasses and keep them refilled so you can stay hydrated. The new location is really beautiful.

I love Toreros. They have good mexican food a lot of vegetarian options. As well as when you order out they give you complementary chips and salsa. The price range is good for the amount of food that you get. I only do pick up so I can't say much for the dine in service but the pick up is always quick and easy.

First time visiting Toreros and enjoyed their food and atmosphere. Food is also reasonably priced for lunch.

Great food and incredible service. A must try for those in the area. The inside is fun and lively.

As a native Texan, I'm fussy about my Mexican food. Hubby and I wandered in for lunch on a random Monday and were delighted with the atmosphere, service, and food. I enjoyed the Chicken Taquitos, which were well-seasoned and delicious! Hubby had the spinach enchiladas, which were also tasty. We look forward to returning and trying more dishes -- we appreciate the good Mexican food in downtown Durham. We can enjoy a pre-game meal at Torero's before we head to the Bulls game!

Toreros is back! With the same colorful booths, great service and now even better than before food combined with a new location that features outdoor space as well as a great dining room we will definitely return.

Good food, big portions and very friendly staff. Great for happy hour. I'll be back soon.

Check your food before leaving because they will leave items out of your bag that you paid for and then say you should have checked your bag before left. Yes, you should check your bag before leaving and they should complete the order that's paid for. Highly disappointed. Highly.

Decent Tex-Mex, I liked my chimichanga and craft soda. Soft serve was tasty too. Little expensive for the portion sizes, there's other restaurants around with a little more bang for your buck.

Excellent Fajitas and Beef Chimichangas....just the right amount of spice..great service and authentic....music and privacy of tables...a plus!
