Part creative‑reuse shop, part low‑tech makerspace where kids and adults build with salvaged materials. A Spaceworks Tacoma graduate, it’s frequently praised by local arts advocates for keeping imaginative play accessible and sustainable.

Tinkertopia is the best. Full of fabulous items to repurpose and make awesome art out of. I'm having a fairy garden craft party and needed supplies to decorate birdhouses. I found some really cool stuff. Thanks Tinkertopia!

Tinkertopia is an amazing quaint little place that every creative soul should experience at least once in their life. It’s a fantastic art re-use store with plenty to purchase to bring your imagination to life but even better is the 90 minute building sessions you can attend with your friends and family. There are so many tools and materials that you have at your disposal and only time and your imagination are your restrictions to build whatever you want! There are no instructions or guidance given other than some safety tips and they allow the entire time to build and create to your hearts content. I have never seen anything like this before and I am so incredibly happy we stumbled upon this place on my quick visit to the west side.

It was incredibly fun! The owners are both incredibly sweet and accommodating. This was my mom's first outing out of the house since being wheelchair bound and they were incredible helping to accommodate her, and were gracious when she and my dad were late (after trying to navigate loading and unloading the chair...) All around incredibly fun to use the makers space and shop they supplies.

I went looking for recycled art supplies after a friend recommended Tinkertopia and walked into a fever dream of my personal heaven! This place has it all, and is very inspiring for artists and humans of all ages and stages of artistry! Good prices, antique store vibes and really nice owners. I’ll definitely be returning!

Visiting from out of town, a friend brought me. I was equally inspired by the inventive, whimsical "product" labels and the contents of the packages, bins and jars. Trying not to add too much weight to my travels I picked out just a few lightweight items to take home (I'll have to plan ahead for the next visit). The owner was friendly and patient, adding to the fun experience. I can't wait to visit again!

Love this place! Took my son here for a building session and we had a great time for an amazing price. Tons of amazing supplies to build with and the owner is very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back again and again. Their shop also has tons of cool items for purchase big and small the creativity is endless here!

Disappointed. Been there dozens of times, probably scores. We’ve had 2 birthday parties there. 9 year old super excited to see if he could find some back to school supplies there today but in midst of stocking his $20 bag he had to pee. Asked if he could use the bathroom and owner said “no, gonna have to go to one of the cafes” so we hiked 2 blocks to Zeek’s and when we got back (at 5:36PM) store was closed, 24 minutes before the sign on the door. I get it, no public restroom, but it’s a kid and one that’s frequented your store for years. So much for community. Hard pass next time we’re looking to spend a dime.

If you are having art block come here, they have the cure! Lots of keys and tennis balls, weird pictures, basically anything that someone thought “hmmm, I bet someone could use that for an art project” and donated it to Tinkertopia. It’s wonderful. Lots of traditional art supplies too, I got a boat load of art markers on the cheap last time I was there and paint too. Make sure to check out their tennis ball tubes of “maker kits”. Those are really cool. My first Christmas in my old house I made all my ornaments with my kids with stuff from Tinkertopia, those are the most cherished ones I still have. They are big swarthy teens now but I look at those cool self made ornaments and it brings me back to their toddlerhood. Ok now I’m weepy. Anyway, it’s awesome, there is a guy in an awesome hat, it feels slightly subversive, because screw Michael’s. Make cool art with awesome materials. It looks better when it’s a little weird. You’re better when you’re weird.
