I have been coming here for years now, yet I am finally getting around to writing a review. This is one of my go to 🍕 parlours and they have never let me down in the multitude of times I have ordered from them. I normally get a 🍕 to go but I did eat in house one time some years back and had the 🧀 🥩 which is also good. I normally get a Supreme/Deluxe whenever I order a 🍕 or I just make my own combo of toppings but on my last visit I got their meat lovers which I think is probably the best meat lovers 🍕 I have ever had. Definitely give these guys a try, you won't be disappointed.

Super friendly! Service impeccable! Prices reasonable. We had the Sicilian cheese pizza, half Mary Angela special. Some places don't allow half and half anymore. It was very delicious! A very hearty pizza with it's thick crust, yummy cheese and sauce, plenty of toppings and baked to perfection! My granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We are already making plans to come back and bringing more family members!

Great NY pizza and pizza shop atmosphere. The booths are small so wouldn’t recommend for more than 4 people. 5 stars for the food

*The Mary Angela Special* is, without a doubt, the best-tasting pizza I've had in a long time. From the very first bite, it delivers on every level—starting with an exceptional crust that’s perfectly crisp on the outside and light, airy, and chewy within. Each ingredient tastes incredibly fresh, as if hand-picked just before hitting the oven. The balance of flavors is spot-on—savory, rich, and satisfying without being heavy. This pizza isn’t just good—it’s a reminder of how amazing pizza "can" be when done right.

I'm from NJ, and we are really snobby about pizza, to say the least. I was in Richmond on business and decided to grab lunch since I'd just finished a presentation. Walked in & was seated immediately by a waitress who I realized later, was the only waitress covering all the tables. After bringing me my drink & letting me know she'd be back for my order as fast as she could, she jumped off to greet & seat others. I ordered the Mary Angela's special, kind of an everything combo. About 15 minutes later, this gorgeous pie shows up. Looked a bit like a bar pie, but with a thicker crust. No flop in their game, it was crispy but the dough was still meaty. The meat on this pie was delicious, and their pizza sauce had a really fresh taste to it. After a refill on my drink I could only eat 3 slices. Great service and outstanding pizza!

Ate some dinner here with friends before hitting the Byrd. A tad crammed but still cozy. Staff was friendly and the menu looked great (lots of options!) I went with the Linguini Alfredo. My friends ordered various lovely dishes including Chicken Parmesan, Spaghetti & Meatballs, and a Roast Beef sub. Will definitely be back to try something else when I'm in the area again! Oh...and their free bread was nice too ha!

As a native New Yorker and a pizza connoisseur, okay maybe a snob, I’ve had a lot of pizza in my lifetime and grew up eating Ray’s Original in NYC! I can’t believe I’m going to say this next thing, but Mary Angela’s pizza is hands down the BEST PIZZA I’ve had in my life! I recently moved to Richmond and I was convinced that I wouldn’t find any good pizza and would have to settle for meh pizza. But, that is not the case and Mary Angela’s has already become my pizza Friday spot! But, place your order early don’t wait for prime time on a Friday because everyone else knows it’s the best too! Plus the staff is friendly and welcoming I dream about Fridays and taking that first bite. The ratio btw sauce, to cheese to crust is perfection! The sauce though is out of this world. There are usually two kinds of sauce, sweet or savory. But, Mary Angela’s had perfected a combo that is incredible. I’m not a crust eater either, but they add rosemary to the crust and you can taste it down to the very last bite. Okay, let’s get to the cheese now, most pizza places (in my opinion) don’t add enough cheese you know you want to take a bite and have to pull the cheesy part off that’s how you know the cheese ratio is right and let me tell you, that moment you bite into it, and everything hits your tastebuds and your pulling the cheesy part off is literally heaven!

Google
I love their pizza (I always get the small buffalo chicken) which feeds me for dinner and lunch the next day. Leftovers are just as good as day of, especially when heated up in the oven. my husband loves their Stromboli. I’ve ordered a few appetizers I wasn’t a fan of, which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. But this is my favourite pizza joint in RVA. Highly recommend extra cheese on the pizza, it’s still amazing with regular cheese but the extra cheese feeds my soul.

Yelp
My husband and I frequent Mary Angela's pretty often so I figured I would write about how much we love it! I try something new every time, and I cannot say that I've ever been disappointed with any choice I make. Their portions are large and their prices are very fair for the area. I will say that the deluxe steak sandwich has got to be the best Philly cheesesteak I've ever had. You can tell that they take a lot of pride in making sure the quality is top notch for their customers. The service is always great and the atmosphere is welcoming as soon as you walk in. It's family owned and they in turn treat you like their family. Highly recommend popping in for a quick and satisfying bite or grabbing a pie to go!

Yelp
Was in the area so figured I'd stop for a slice. I did and ended up taking a Sicilian home. The pizza is still so good here. Place was busy! Good stuff. Recommend the Sicilian with pepperoni and extra cheese. It's some good eats!! Also reheats well.

Yelp
Entering Angelo's pizzeria very pleasant very welcoming. The service was good and then came to food. The food was excellent. I gave it a 10 out of 10.

Yelp
Mary Angela's is a small pizzeria in Carytown. I have eaten here multiple times and it's Always a hit! The best pizza everrrr. We order half pepperoni half cheese. Chef kiss

Yelp
I come here often after my nail appointments to get a slice. The pizza is always amazing, and the service is quick and friendly. Tonight, I stopped in before closing with a couple of friends, and Max was THE BEST -- he made us feel like family. There aren't many places left in Carytown that still have that true neighborhood feeling. You've earned my business, and everyone I know, for life! Thanks Max! Go birds :)

Yelp
The best pizza in town (in my opinion). The slices are a traditional New York style slice. Crispy yet still soft enough to fold it in half. I love that the sauce is slightly sweet. Paired with the salty cheese, it's a perfect combo! We also love the grilled chicken salad, it's a simple salad with lots of flavor. Right in the middle of Carytown so it's street parking only but we've never had a problem finding a spot nearby. They have seating inside and if you walk in and order to-go, they are usually pretty quick!

Yelp
Very good pizza. I was honestly surprised bc it's just hard to find very good pizza. The service was great, server was very relational and hospitable. We were seated as soon as we came in (w my little boys). Decent beer menu, small restaurant w a community staple feel. This will a go-to when I'm at U of R studying.

Yelp
No Complaints. Was looking for a great tasting NY style pie. Ordered the special and wasn't disappointed! Gotta try the thin crust next time!

Jeff A.

Yelp
The italian sub is excellent. Every once in a while you find a pizza place that makes really excellent subs--this is that place. The restaurant is small but has plenty of seating.

Bill J.

Yelp
My 4 stars are only because we did not try a pizza. Late night stop in just to try their garlic knots and cheese cake. OK weird combo I get it. But we were coming from a less than spectacular dinner elsewhere and just wanted something to get the taste out of our mouth. The waitress was very attentive and interested in our wishes. Although she did bring us the cheesecake before the garlic knots which in my world is the way to go- dessert before meal. We need more waitresses like that. The garlic knots were very good. The sauce provided with them lacked a lot of flavor, it was very one dimensional. But the oil and garlic on the plate the knots laid in, more than made up for the lack of sauce flavor. I hope to come back soon for a pizza as the couple we were with say they get one from there about every 10 days.. Which for me is lacking as I am on the a pizza every 5 to 7 days. Always looking for the next great pizza place to try and call home. The knots may make me choose this as an option.

Yelp
Vintage feel to this place and even the service (in a good way!). The booths, the decor, the menus - it all brought me home to decades gone by. Made me want to order a personal pan pizza with my Book It button. Pizza was good. I'm told this place is the best in town, and it's easy to see why. Wine paired nicely with our slices - someone put good thought into the selections.

Yelp
One of the best pizza joints in RVA! But they don't just serve pizza, they have hoagies/subs, lasagna, salads, and more! The restaurant is kind of small, galleand can get crowded, and it's not super atmospheric but the food it's worth driving in Carytown; and in Carytown, of course, the parking can be a beast. We've been getting take out here for ages!! Great service and decent prices make this pizzeria a treat! Come and get a slice of life!
google avatar

Patty Y.

Yelp
In NYC you will find pizzerias and get a slice on a paper plate in a few minutes as you bar hop or just hanging out. I was excited to know they have pizzas by the slice. The set up is a bit different here. They had the pies premade and put the toppings on as you order. It makes the toppings more fresh. But to make the pie not too dry, they taste more like a deep dish (and maybe they are) and bit more oily. It really is preference when it comes to pizza. It could be your favorite but not mine. They do look like they run a busy joint.

Ronald M.

Yelp
I've had a lot of BBQ chicken pizzas in my lifetime, but this was the first that tasted like it was built upon an actual cheese pizza, complete with tomato sauce and cheese under a layer of bbq sauce, chicken, and cheese. VERY odd. The chicken was great but the rest of the pizza just seemed...off. Bummer.

Yelp
We've stopped in Mary Angela's a few times, and I just noticed I'd never reviewed them During this recent visit, we grabbed a pizza to go. We were greeted right when we walked in, and someone took our order right away. The time estimate was right on point, too. They have standard NY Italian offerings on their menu -- pizza, calzones, salads, subs, and past dishes. For pizza, they offer by the slice, NY, and Sicilian styles. The pizza is a good ratio of sauce to cheese ( I can't stand I when there is too much sauce and the cheese slides off!) And offerings pizza by the slice is a great option when you don't want a whole pie. The sauce flavoring for their pizza and pastas is a little plain for my preference. The inside is pretty small, and the booths are tight for 4 people. Service has always been good My rating rationale +1 Service +.5 Food~Taste/flavor/quality +1 Presentation +.5 Atmosphere/vibe +1 Value

Yelp
The service is so good and the food was very yummy! our server was the best! treated us very good for our first time.

Yelp
This place is always busy when we walk by on the menu, and when we read the menu to check it out, they had gluten free pizza, so we had to check it out. The restaurant is small and unpretentious, but the food was great! I would certainly visit again.
google avatar

Amanda E.

Yelp
Dined in on a Monday night. The server was friendly and attentive to our needs. Pizza was good with a crispy bottom. Slightly too much cheese IMO but that didn't take away too much from it being just good and solid pizza.

Yelp
For nearly 17 years I've been enjoying this spot. It's still a top favorite. I eat here because the food is consistently delicious, yes.. but also, the service is homegrown and familial -- whether you are new here or not, the pizzeria style is kept perfect, giving the space a sense that they really know what they're doing.. the support staff moves around each other seamlessly, as if they've done this for years... because they have.. and they train newly acquired family with patience and care... The thing is thought: I mainly eat here because the food is made with love and you can feel it when you eat it.... even the next day, properly reheated.. Well done, fam.. well done.

Yelp
Mary Angela's has been an institution in Richmond for 39 years. How does a business last that long in this world of failing restaurants? The answer is simple - quality food, great customer service, and a love for serving Italian food. Because we live somewhat far away, it's not practical to get pizza here all the time. But we get it as often as we can. I'm not sure what the secret is but they have THE best pizza in town, hands down. The sauce is delicious and never bitter. Toppings are generous and they have a wide range from which to choose. We had the special (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, mushrooms). The thin NY style crust makes for good "folding." There is just enough grease to make it authentic but not overdone. The calamari was also quite good. Thank you for all the years of greatness, Mary Angela's! Here's to the next 39!!!

Yelp
I've been coming to Mary Angela's since I was little and let me tell you they never disappoint. Their food is always delicious and super reasonably priced and the best part is all the great familiar faces. I see you when I walk in the door. I really feel like I am treated like family! Their pizzas are huge and delicious and their pasta taste like it was cooked with love! If you're ever in Richmond, Virginia, please try out this little spot. It's family owned and it really does feel like that. Thank you Mary Angelas for all that you have done for our family!

Yelp
I've been going to this restaurant since college and now it is a family favorite. Some of our favorites are steak and cheese, Stromboli with ground beef, steak rolls, and lasagna.

Yelp
Have not been here in a while! Omg! Awesome pizza! I'm a NY'er and this place is the best pizza around! My husband got the sausage peppers and onion sub! Everything was great! On top of the food, the service was impeccable!!

Yelp
Came into cary town to go to a new bakery but i decided i wanted something small to eat before eating dessert. Always heard great things about this being top pizza in Richmond. So why not give it a shot? 10/10 would eat here again. They don't slack on the cheese and the crust was done just right. Perfect texture from dough, flour and crispness. I loved it and you made me put it in my top 3.

C C.

Yelp
Order large pizza w/ 2 toppings for $26.84. The pizza was so salty neither my son nor I could eat more than 2 slices - and we were hungry. I went by the Mary Angela's to tell the people about the salt. Two of the men preparing pizzas shouted at me. That was it. Horrible experience and lousy pizza.

Yelp
I am a born and raised NEW YORKER and I've been in Virginia almost 2 years now and this is the CLOSEST to real NY pizza. Not NY but close and acceptable enough to enjoy pizza. Miss REAL NY FOOD though. Every trip back I grab pizza and bagels to bring home.

Heywood H.

Yelp
Our go-to pizza for take out. Always reliable, always delicious and the staff is super friendly.

Amanda D.

Yelp
Older woman with insane eyeshadow at the register handed me the carry out order after I paid, and as I reached for it she exaggeratedly snatched it back like a crazy person and yelled something like "excuse me! You have to sign the receipt!" Difficult to describe the energy she was bringing but if you're familiar with Professor Megonagal from the Harry Potter series that pretty much sums up the vibes. Why get mad at polite paying customers? Love the pizza though, have been picking up from here for years and have never seen her before. But probably won't be back because this lady was so incredibly, comically off-putting. Whoever she is, unfortunately she truly makes the whole experience not worth it. Save your money

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
My husband and I have been to this restaurant twice and really enjoyed it. On our first venture my honey had a tuna hero and I tried the antipasto. This week we enjoyed Hawaiian pizza which is like eating dessert and lunch at the same time because of the pineapple. The food is fresh and delicious. The service is amazing too. Waitresses in Virginia join in conversation with you without intruding on your conversation with the people you're with and your meal. We got the feeling we were in a warm family atmosphere. My dad was right. He said people in the South especially restaurant workers make people feel welcome. Well thanks Richmond eateries for making us feel wanted.

Alison M.

Yelp
Really good fresh pizza by the slice. My husband loves to try pizza everywhere he goes. Has to be plain cheese and has to be by the slice. We found this while walking Cary Street and came in. The gal behind the counter was friendly, they had plenty of seating inside and the bathrooms were tidy. He ordered two slices of cheese pizza to go and they were warmed and served in about 5 minutes. As he would say - good flop, good sauce to cheese ratio and warm and fresh. Crust was crispy. He gave an 8.2 outta 10. Pretty high for him. A few couples inside who had ordered subs made me want one of those. Would def come back for lunch.

Mel L.

Yelp
Owner is rude. I have ordered food from you for 20 years. Food is great but the owners wife is rude and unpleasant.
google avatar

Pat H.

Yelp
Everything was fabulous. We enjoyed and I forgot to take pictures. So here are pictures of the take home leftovers. All was well made and good. There is a-lot of garlic including he spinach. Very good since I like garlic. Pizza is similar to a good New York pizza.

Yelp
Best meatlovers pizza ive been told by many coworkers. This location is a bit busy, but the food is always great!

Karen D.

Yelp
I have been eating from here for years and always loved the food and service but today I did delivery and the driver rode around with my food until it was cold and management was rude and didn't want to give me a refund,I don't know if my food was delivered to someone else and redelivery to me
google avatar

Danielle G.

Yelp
My review is the Pearson F. Review. Karen on the phone ruined this amazing place and experience for us. If you want ranch don't order online, it's apparently criminal to call after ordering on THEIR website to ask to extra ranch. Or like Karen said "do you have cash to pay the delivery guy for the ranch?" INSANE and sad.

Aiden P.

Yelp
Super authentic place, very friendly environment, Feels like an integral part of the community! Great pizza by the way.

Yelp
Ordered eggplant Parmesan and specialty pizza. Both were okay, staff were very nice and seems like a good place to get a slice of pizza.

Yelp
Food is hot and fresh. It was delicious. Can't wait to go back. Service was awesome! Located in Carytown and I enjoyed looking out window while I ate.

Yelp
Some of the best NY style pizza in Richmond. Sometimes you just need a good hand tossed pie without all the fig, goat cheese, etc...
google avatar

Alek Z.

Yelp
The best pizza I've had in Richmond so far. $25 for a large but it's a good sized large. Their meat lovers is awesome.

Yelp
I cannot tell you how fresh and clean these ingredients are. service excellent. pizza so delicious. terrific all the way around.

Yelp
Mary Angela's is a guilty pleasure when I can stretch a lunch hour just a bit. Their pizzas (which they will sell by the slice!) are NY style and really satisfying. Stay with the basics -- cheese, pepperoni, sausage, etc. If you add for something "bizarre" like jalapenos they cover the pizza to the point of crazyland. But the crust is great, the balance of cheese and sauce and toppings is right on point. Also do not ignore their sandwiches. My dining partner and I are particularly fond of the steak and cheese sub, which comes with lettuce and tomato and mayo (to which I add some of the excess jalapenos I remove from my slice of pizza!) The iced tea is fresh, the services is friendly, and there is not usually a lunchtime wait for a table. Small private parking lot in the rear, but you'd have to get lucky. Street parking is a better bet. Major credit cards accepted.

Lamar J.

Yelp
The pizza here is ALWAYS good! Most recently, I had their white pizza that was perfectly garlicky and so cheesy. It also gives pizza place vibes very cozy inside and a friendly staff.

Page D.

Yelp
Have always enjoyed this spot over the years for their pizzas, pastas and subs. I went back in this week for spaghetti and meatballs, which were really good! The tomato sauce tasted very fresh and the meatballs were better than any other Italian restaurant I've been to lately. The spaghetti and meatballs were served with warm bread that has garlic and butter inside. It was nice to sit by the window and watch the people in Carytown.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
10/10 on everything we've tried from them - pizzas to tiramisus and cannolis. This is our #1 favorite pizza/Italian place in RVA and we've had many other favorites. Service was excellent too!
google avatar

Soongyi C.

Yelp
I've been eyeing Mary Angela's for awhile and I'm upset that I waited this long to try it. Large portions for fair prices, what could be better?? We got the Mary Angela's Special, the slices were huge and they didn't skimp on their ingredients. We also got the the Greek Salad with the homemade vinaigrette which was the perfect size for my boyfriend and I to split AND we still had leftovers. We ordered it for take out which was the easiest process - Place an order online via their website and boom, order is ready for pick up within 20 minutes. There are options for delivery as well but it's obviously a longer wait (website time: 1 hour and 15 min) Parking in Carytown is usually limited but there is a 5 minute loading zone right in front of the restaurant, where you can park and grab your food! If you're craving a delicious pizza with fresh ingredients - This is the spot!!

Yelp
Visiting. Used to live in the fan 15 years ago. Place is the same as before! Which is so special to me. Hits that nostálgico spot right in the kidney. Service was good. Ambiance is vintage

Yelp
Mary Angela's is a no-frills pizza joint in Carytown with standard takeout fare. I stopped in after a hair cut down the street and ordered my typical selection for the eatery style: a small cheese pizza and an Italian hoagie...no tomato, no vinagrette - just mayo. As a Philly area native, it still perplexes me when Italian hoagies ("subs") default to being heated up. Mary Angela's was no exception (and I always forget to request cold) so I stuck the sandwich in my fridge and ate it later on. The pizza was thin, midly greasy, and had a nice chewy texture. All positives. It wasn't my all-time favorite local pie, but it was totally acceptable and I'd order it from them again. The Italian, once sufficiently chilled, was quite good as well. I'd consider branching out on their menu, but I know what I like and I'll probably stick to it. The wait time for takeout wasn't long either -- maybe 15 minutes tops.
