Gallo Center for the Arts

If you don't fall in love with this institution, you can't be pleased. It's internationally renowned for its equipment and acoustics for performing. The volunteers assisting the patrons are a delight. The in-house symphony is magnificent as are the other in-house groups. There's a long list of performing artists visiting for every imaginable kind of performance.

This is a very nice venue. The seats were comfortable and I don't think there was a bad place to sit or view the stage. The staff was very courteous and friendly as well.

Went to see a christmas performance. This venue is beautiful, large enough to accommodate large audience but not so large as to not feel intimate. This is the second time I've been to this theater and it doesn't disappoint. Chairs are comfortable, although I would recommend sitting on a aisle seat if you're a little larger body type. Facilities are nice and clean, there is a little refreshment counter and plenty of room to meet and greet after a performance.

For a birthday gift, I took my husband and his siblings to see "Who's Live Anyway". We had a great time, laughing for 90 minutes. The Gallo is beautiful inside. As soon as we walked in, we were escorted to the designated area, where we needed to be when the doors opened. Scanned our tickets and again escorted to our awesome seats. The only thing I would say is that you don't need to park in the garage on 8th Street as the website reads (we did😕 a long walk for some of my peeps) If you show up early there is parking on the street right next to the Gallo, we'll know better next time 😊.

Have been to the Gallo Center for other performances: George Lopez, Wanda Sykes, Boz Scaggs. Excited to get tickets early for Dave Koz and Friends for Christmas! Their website is easy to navigate, scan able tickets sent way ahead of time. All of the Gallo Center volunteers were wonderful, so friendly and helpful! The show was fantastic, will be checking their book of future performances to attend. Note to complainants: for future reference, check Modesto Downtown parking access BEFORE you get here. That way there are no surprises. The 11th Street Garage was closest, Cash Only is stated on website, with an attendant.

Simply said we are lucky to have this jewel in our community. If we don't support it, who will? They bring in all kinds of artists that cater to everyone's enjoyment. Comedy, drama, country folk, jazz, mariachi... you name it, they have it. The facilities are great. The volunteers who serve as ushers and run the concessions are amazing people. Can't ask for a better place to spend an evening out.

Every seat is a good seat. The volunteers are very helpful and nice. It is a lovely, clean and very accessible venue.

There is no bad seat at the Gallo Center. The volunteers and staff go the extra step to make the patrons feel welcome and enjoy the performances.

This is a beautiful and intimate theater. My sister, cousins, and I loved watching Dogstar perform here last April. Keanu Reeves is the bass guitarist and humbly performed without saying a word. Besides the over-eager fan yelling at Keanu to talk to her for a good thirty minutes straight, the crowd was actually tame. We talked to the guy sitting alone after the yelling fan left. He said he didn't know her, and we all shared a laugh. After that, back to an unusually quiet crowd. The staff was very friendly and personable. Parking is close, and the location feels safe.

Love this place! Wish is was closer to Sac, but I do love it so much, it's with the drive. I've been hear a few times. This last time it was for "Ladies Night", which featured Tiffany, Sheena Easton, and Taylor Dayne. Not only was their performance amazing, seeing them so close in this intimate place made our experience that much better. As soon as you walk in you feel welcomed. Service has always been pleasant here. Just a perfect place to checkout a show.

Lea Salonga's show at Cache Creek was sold out, but her next tour stop in the area was at the Gallo Center for the Arts. My first time to this venue, located in downtown Modesto off of Highway 99. Convenient garage parking within walking distance for $5 (cash only, attended) for Gallo Center events on 12th Street. Maybe it's because it was close to showtime, but tickets weren't scanned upon entry to the venue, but not until you got to the specific level and at the actual entrance to the theater seating area. No bag check, not sure what the policy was. Ushers available to help find seats. Grand Tier Balcony (Balcony Middle) row C was not a bad view at all, comfy seating! This concert was called Stage, Screen, and Everything in Between. Her musicians included two backup vocalists, keyboards, piano, drums, bass and guitar. The show was 90 minutes plus encore performances, there was an early matinee and an evening show too. The program was fun! Broadway tunes, Disney heroines, and movie soundtracks. Didn't avail of any concessions or merch for purch but the women's restroom line was orderly and clean. #teamMulan #teamJasmine #teamEponine #teamKim

We are huge fans of live entertainment, especially musical performances. Over the years, we have been members of the Concord Pavillion, Shoreline Amphitheater, Best of Broadway SF and the Gallo Center. Additionally, we've attended shows at HP Pavillion, Oakland Arena, Hammer Theater, Luther Burbank Theater, Bankhead, Dean Lesher, San Ramon Center for the Arts, Zellerbach Hall, Davies Symphony Hall, War Memorial, Circle Star (reaching way back!), Yoshi's, Blue Note - Napa, and many others that have faded out of our memories. By far, other than Yoshi's and Blue Note - Napa, Gallo is THE BEST when it comes to sightlines and acoustics. The theater is beautiful, the staff is generally friendly, parking is relatively easy. What's there not to like? We drive anywhere between 60 and 90 minutes each way, depending on traffic, to attend each show. By being members, we get some priority on purchasing tickets to shows we want to see. We generally will only sit in Rows AA, BB or in the Box Seats, preferably as close to the middle as possible for the most balanced sound. The pricing is usually quite reasonable too. Our most recent show was Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. Yay! We hope to be able to attend shows here for years to come!

We saw the nutcracker here this past Christmas season and it was so good. I will certainly be back

Nice theater service was good just the right size place where all seats are good we sat in row BB and after arranging and taking our seats we took a look around at the other seats and feel we would have enjoyed the show no matter where we sat Parking lot close by on 12th st.$5 cash only handicap park next to the theater Homeless near the theater were few but didn't bother anyone Small concession stand coffee. Wine and water Ushers let you in 30 minutes before show starts. Restroom was clean many seniors volunteered to assist you with seating and everyone we encountered were pleasant We will definitely go back

The Gallo Center is the best place to see a play or concert in Modesto. I was surprised a small town had such a wonderful place to see events. Parking is on the street or there is a lot about a half block away. The place itself is really pretty and it is kept clean and looks newer than it is. The seating is comfortable. Prices depend on what you are interested in seeing. You do need to get tickets in advance. Most of the seats have a good view. Obviously, the further you go back, the view fades. Try to get in the first 15 rows. The theater is not huge but it does seat about 1,200 people. This is for the main theater. There is another smaller theater called the Foster Family Theater that seats less than 500. I have never been to it. The staff is very nice and will help you find your seats if you need and with any questions you may have. It is really a nice theater.

I drove 2.5 hours to bring my mom to see Paul Anka, and it was worth the trip. What an awesome venue! I don't think there's a bad seat in the house, and the the sound is great. Comfortable seats, lovely space. For concessions they had beer, wine, and some non alcoholic beverages and light snacks. Heads up, in order to keep the venue looking as beautiful as it does, any drink must be served in a spill proof cup with a lid. The cup itself costs 3 bucks, then you pay for your drink in addition to that. I didn't mind and it was kind of nice not worrying about spilling! And you have to appreciate a venue that wants to remain pristine. The staff there, from what I gather, were all volunteers. They were great too, very helpful and nice! I would definitely come back to the venue for another show in the future.

Clay Walker was a INCREDIBLE show. It was like he was living room. Strongest voice I have heard in long time. He was GREAT.

Helpful people who waited on me. Also, good experience at the center for the performance. Sat up in the 3rd floor section and had wonderful acoustics, as well done as San Francisco.

WOW FACTOR? Yes, beautiful venue and good leg room for tall people. HAVE AGAIN: Hot chocolate for $4 is delicious and a great deal.

Came here to see Gloria Magaña perform her comedy act. She was hilarious. Hopefully she can perform here again in the future.

Saw the Cher Show on Tuesday night at Gallo !!! The show was fabulous We all enjoyed it !! Also the staff was very helpful & made the experience easy I look forward to attending again soon !!!

I was surprised to see such a nice venue in Modesto. I'm not originally from the Valley but I wanted to see some shows (theatre, concerts, etc.) and didn't want to drive to the Bay Area or Sacramento area. Gallo was clean, nice, and pretty. I was surprised to say the least and had some low expectations. We saw the Nutcracker in December and enjoyed it! Being able to bring back our Gallo cup for drinks will be a nice perk. There were a lot of area for photo ops and the staff were very friendly and kind to us. Everyone was festive! Can't wait until the next show.

Visited the smaller theater for an afternoon show. Smaller than average seats might be something to consider for some who prefer elbow room. However, the ushers were friendly and very cordial. The facility is maintained well and the prices for concessions were as expected.

Coming from the Bay Area and all it has to offer, I never thought I'd be driving to Modesto for culture. Yet there I was, on a hot Saturday night. Modesto. My first time to this Central Valley city was to see the musical A Chorus Line. What a special treat! Located downtown, the GCFA is an entertainment oasis. It was 90° at 7:30pm and honestly I set expectations low. I was just hoping the AC was operating. I was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful lobby and delighted the AC was at full blast. Yes! The inside is organized with plenty of signage, and staff well-placed to help you find your way and your seat. There are restrooms and a bar on each floor, so you can do your thing before the event begins. Street parking is available but fills up fast. Opt for the parking garage across the street $5 (cash) for the night.

Absolutely great show--- I hope they bring back David Foster and Katherine Mcphee. They both sooooo talented and I sincerely appreciated their way of bantering, teasing, and engaging with each other and the audience. Jan 21, 2024

This is a local treasure. We are lucky to have high-quality culture here. I've volunteered as a docent here in 2005 with a young cousin who needed resume builder, The staff is very professional, with a strict dress code for staff. I do recommend dressing up dressy casual for evening performances in the main theater. Some performances like Indiana Jones were more casual Their presentation very some things are simple theater, productions, and other things are symphonies, concerts or ballets. Recently, my partner purchased tickets for Mother's day for his parents to see the sleeping, beauty, ballet, with costumes and beautiful sets. His parents were super happy and loved it. On May 31, I went with my favorite man to see Indiana Jones in the Temple of doom shown with sound effects and vocals, accompanied by the Modesto Symphony Orchestra. I also have been here to see a stomp type production, a cabaret fiddler on the roof , Nunsense, the odd couple and numerous other performances, concert by Jethro Tull, UB40 and Joan Jett to ne a few. I would like to see some newer acts come through, but I understand there's a limit to who they can get here on a budget. Overall, this is a lovely theater. Their customer service is absolutely excellent and when I called with a question for the June performance of 2025 they were super helpful and made sure that my partner's parents were able to get in even though I had purchased the tickets with my account for him. Overall easy to deal with excellent service and lovely performances easily accessible here in Modesto. They do not serve any kind of hot food but they do have a nice little snack bar that serves wine beer soft drinks, and snacks. Go here! Shows have a wide variety of prices. Major theater productions range from about 45 to 96 a ticket. Smaller productions are significantly less you just have to check and see how much each production cost. I have never been disappointed with anything I have seen here.

All shows are excellent. I have been going to the Gallo Center for the past eight years and have enjoyed all the performances.

TWO YEARS IN WAITING - LEA SALONGA Lea Salonga is a transcendent singer as she not only inspires other Filipinos but also mesmerizes other people through her Broadway roles in "Miss Saigon" and "Les Misérables" and Disney animations as the singing voices of Jasmine in "Aladdin" and Mulan in "Mulan." I always wanted to see Lea Salonga sing live. Around November or December 2019 I went to this theater's website and noticed she was only performing an evening show here on Saturday May 8, which was sold out. Around January 2020 I went to the website again and due to popular demand she would be performing another show in the afternoon on that same day. If I am going to drive all the way from Union City to Modesto to see Lea Salonga I might as well buy a ticket in the orchestra section and not the balcony. I purchased a ticket in the orchestra section about two rows away from the stage for the Saturday afternoon show in May. Then Covid hit. When the concert was moved to October 2020 I was notified by the theater if I want a refund or watch the concert. I choose to watch the concert. When the October 2020 concert was cancelled a representative from the theater notified me if I want to keep the ticket for a future show or receive a refund. I wanted to see the concert because when is the next time I get to see and hear Lea Salonga sing. The concert then was moved to November 2021 however the concert would eventually be cancelled. Then around January of this year I received an email from this theater that Lea Salonga will be performing on Sunday May 15 for two shows - the afternoon and evening show. Around early February I called Gallo Center of the Arts to request if I can exchange my ticket of the afternoon show for the evening show for the orchestra section. A representative informed me there were no available seats in the orchestra section in the evening show. She then advised me to call the theater back around in May. I called the theater in early March and talked to a representative. There was an available seat in the orchestra section so I requested an exchange of the seat of my afternoon show for the evening show. However the seat that was available in the evening show was not as close as my seat in the afternoon show. I didn't mind as long as I get to see Lea Salonga sing live in the orchestra section. On the evening of the concert I found out that my seat was about five rows away from the stage. How was the Lea Salonga concert? I love hip hop and R&B music especially from the 90s. Yet I can be open minded to other music. Listening to Lea Salonga sing is memorable as her tone is crystal clear - not a Filipino trying to sing in a karaoke machine. The first act she was singing contemporary songs from other artists. One of those songs was Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" a song that a Lea Salonga sang as a callback audition for "Miss Saigon" when she was 17 years old. She also sang Britney Spears' "Toxic" but in a blues way. The second act was what made the concert. Hearing her sing the audition song, which was "On My Own" from "Les Misérables", for "Miss Saigon" when she was 17 years old or listening her belt "A Whole New World" from "Aladdin" is watching history live. On her second to last song she sang a medley of songs. Some of those songs included "I'd Give My Life for You" from "Miss Saigon". She ended the show by stating as the month of May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month she sang "How Far I'll Go" from "Moana". Watching this concern reminded of watching Paul McCartney at Candlestick Park in 2013 - the last event ever at that historic stadium. Attending the Lea Salonga concert was an event I'll never forget. My rating is not only based on the Lea Salonga concert but also the staff from the Gallo Center of the Arts of helping me maintain my orchestra seat for the concert. The process was worth two years of waiting.

Wonderful place for a concert, every seat is fantastic. We saw Johnny Mathis and who didn't know his all time Christmas hit "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas"! He holds a special place in my heart. The staff and volunteers are fabulous. Great venue! We will be back!!

My wife and I have attended several performances at this venue, they have a limited concession stand but their staff are polite and professional, it should be noted that the staff we spoke with all stated that they we volunteers. The auditoriums are well decorated and the seating arrangements are excellent, in my opinion there is not a bad seat in the room. We visited Thursday Mar. 20, 2025 to watch The Ballet Folklorico, simply amazing.

First time visit and great venue for the legendary Englebert Humperdinck at age 89! Great performance despite some technical difficulties. Didn't realize he was also a comedian . He made the best of it and more importantly he made it very memorable to all. He was non stop , 90 minutes straight w no breaks. So happy to make the trip from the Bay Area and made it a family affair. Looking forward to future concerts at this cozy beautiful theater.

This was my first time at Gallo. We just saw Belinda Carlisle who was amazing. I loved the intimate setting. Lots of good seating available. I really want to go back and see another act. There is adult beverages and sodas along with some light snacks available. Location is good downtown for a lot of restaurants in the area.

I went to see Patti Labelle here on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. And from the moment I called to purchase tickets for the concert to the actual date, everyone was so dang polite and cordial. It really makes a huge difference when attending venues and everyone's polite and aware. It made my experience so much more fun. Thank you to all the staff and female manager on the night of this event.

Would be negative if I could!!! I honestly don't even know where to start because I could go on and on.... It was a NIGHTMARE trying to buy tickets for my daughter's performance, the website kept crashing, the phone lines were super busy... I had multiple people trying to buy tickets. My friend finally gets through to buy the tickets and they FLAG them... staying because her address is "out of area" she must be reselling them. So she had to call to put them in my name.... I went to willcall THE DAY before the show to which I was told "there are no tickets in her name OR yours. If you'd like to buy tickets there are still some available" all that were "available" were horrible seats, that my daughter's grandparents would struggle to even see her! I told my friend to get the order number.... And OVER THE PHONE she was told "don't worry have her come up to willcall and get a refund by the manager" ..... went to willcall and spoke with the manager.... To which I was told REPEATEDLY "sorry you bought too many tickets, we will not refund you" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! Your staff told me to buy more tickets!!!! I am beyond disappointed and disgusted with this treatment and theater.

They are great, working with you on seating for groups and all. Of course the diversity of shows are fabulous.

Absolutely powerful. The venue is really nice and the performance of Jesus Christ Superstar was outstanding! Bravo. I'll be back as often as possible!!!

My husband and I came here for the first time ever!! I'm so disappointed it's taken us so long to visit. Beautiful little gem for Modesto. Every worker was extremely nice and professional. The place is beautiful and very organized. Definitely making it to more shows here. Btw. We saw George Lopez and he was amazing!!!

Horrible management of this theatre. Caused my wife and I considerable $ by canceling our two tickets at the last minute, and called us "scalpers" because we wouldn't send proof of our travel itinerary when they demanded it. Their "proof"??? We are from Washington state and they couldn't believe we would travel to see a show. Lost of airfare, rental car cancellation fee, hotel cancellation fee. Worst experience EVER.

Love coming here for shows. Very easy to get to, great friendly staff and spacious seating!

I want to thank Kristen, the Gallo staff and the Security staff for taking care good care of me during my medical emergency today during the Nutcracker performance. The quickly responded and took care of the situation. For that, I am very grateful. Bryan

We really enjoyed our trip to the Gallo Center. The people were friendly. The ground floor women's bathroom was big, so hopefully the lines don't get too long, we were on the second floor and during the intermission the was no line when I went to the second floor bathroom. Yay!! The seat we had were pretty comfortable arm chairs. My husband checked out the regular seating and said it would have been uncomfortable for me, so one star off for that. We were a little concerned about the neighborhood because there were lots of bail bonds and cheap lawyers offices, the theater is very close to a courthouse. But we felt safe walking back to our car after the show, no issues at all the crowd was friendly. We are going back next month, so if there is a show you are interested in GO FOR IT. I think you will be pleased.

The staff here at Gallo are so kind and considerate. They do a wonderful job and I have had pleasant experiences with them during both visits to Gallo

Got to see my daughter-in-law the Fiddler in the Roof broadway show. The theater is beautiful!

Beautiful venue. Took my mom to the Shen Yu program. If you're lucky, you may find street parking, if not there is a parking garage, 2 blocks over that they recommend.

We came to see Journey to World Music and felt it was one sided. They should have ended with music from the USA with Hotel California. They took a classic song like Black Magic Woman out. The MC spoke too long which is why they took a few songs out. Then they took us back to Iran? Bésame Mucho and Hotel California should have been played in an upbeat tempo.

Wow. My husband and I purchased tickets as birthday presents to go see two of our favorite jazz performers, Wynton Marsalis and Dan Nimmer. We have wanted to see them in person for a very long time and this was going to be the closest to our location they would be performing together. All was well until yesterday when we were informed that our tickets would be cancelled unless we showed travel documentation because we were suspected of being scalpers. The tone of the email was so very hostile and offensive. There was nothing in the purchase information that required travel papers. Could we provide them? Of course, but it is the principle of the matter. We were treated like some sort of nefarious criminals just because we wanted to see an out of state performance. Our tickets were refunded, but now we lost our opportunity to see our favorite performers. Way to ruin our experience and a trip that was supposed to be truly special.

I loved going to a local theater for the arts instead of traveling to the Bay Area or Sacramento. But...I recently purchased 5 digital tickets online with the Gallo Box Office and was charged $35 in fees. That was expected. The play was cancelled, or as the Gallo rep said..."postponed" until January 2023." I requested a refund and still had to pay the $35 in fees! So wrong! I won't be attending this theater again.

Went to see the Book of Mormon 11/16/2022. The SOUND SYSTEM IS TERRIBLE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! Everything sounded garbled. You could not understand what the actors are saying a lot of the production because is was not clear at all the music over powered a lot of the time. We found ourselves asking each other if they are able to understand what's being said.. Even the people sitting next to us were saying the same thing, they could not understand what was being said or make the words out to what they were singing. I decided to call Gallo Center for the Arts because after spending hundreds on tickets I felt that this should have not happened. (Response from Gallo Center for the Arts) They could do nothing about it! They stated that they are just the venue and the production company is responsible for the everything. I asked if there was a way to contact the production company and they said NO! Gallo Center for the Arts representative that took my call takes no responsibility other than to say that for future shows they suggest bringing in a hearing aid or modification device to hear better!! "NEWS FLASH" GALLO CENTER FOR THE ARTS No hearing device will correct a crappy sound system!!! IF your wanting quality sound/ clarity with your production Gallo Center for the Arts is not for you!

Overall okay place good artist do come there only thing I saw going there for the second time was security was yelling and screaming at some ppl on skate board which was uncalled for they were not bothering any one talk with respect get respect I seen this security guy do this for the second time it's the one with the glasses

A phenomenal venue to see live performances of affordable lifelong favorites!!! shame on me at my age, the best live introduction to the best in every genre of music!!! for personal growth. Greatest performers and beyond helpful ticket agents and volunteers.

Gallo center is a great venue for local dance recitals or to see big-time performers.

We came here to see 3 Doors Down and we had a wonderful time reminiscing! Loved the venue, stage and seating. The staff was accomodating and so sweet. The price of beer was great, like $5 or 6! The quality of beer and wine, was not, unfortunately. The beers are your common cheap domestics, with one or two of decent brews. The wine selections could be of tastier types because $8 is not worth the cab I had, and I got the double at $16. Please scale up on your bar menu, I am sure your mature guests would really appreciate it! That said, it still would be a great venue to see a show again. :D

A cancelled show should entitle customers to a refund of their tickets as well as the fees paid for online booking. A TOTAL refund is only fair since the customer has no control over the show being cancelled. I'm aware there are alternatives to requesting a refund, such as exchanging tickets for another show, but when there is nothing else of interest to me, I should not have to lose out on fees. I didn't purchase these tickets as a gamble on whether or not a show is going to get cancelled.

I always have a great time here from seeing plays to listening to music from different artists and even have seen a couple of comedians here. I like that it's not too big of a place so each seat gives you a good vantage point to experience the event. I will continue to go back because they always have artists and shows I want to see.
