On the Grid : Fountain Street Church

Fountain Street Church is absolutely stunning for wedding ceremonies. The architecture is breathtaking, and the staff is always welcoming and helpful. I love that there’s a balcony, which allows for gorgeous high angle photos during the ceremony. The exterior is equally beautiful and makes for some great photographs exiting the church!

Saw Taylor Tomlinson’s show here. The church is beautiful, staff was helpful. The bathrooms are a little small but were well stocked. I recommend balcony seats versus the outer sections of the main floor, for better viewing of the stage.

Probably won't actually go down want to make her nervous lol. Couch confessions I will definitely like to go to though!

Part of the audience for Taylor Tomlinson's Netflix special. Beautiful church and very cool setting for a show. Bathrooms are my only complaint.. only one available (with one of the 3 stalls broke) that everyone had to use.

What a wonderfully space. Lots of big rooms with great architecture. This is an independent church giving perishaners the freedom to worship as they see fit. If your not religious it is a place to seek tranquility and community. It is a sanctuary for everyone. I am not religious but will return for the peace and vibes.

9/18/25 Young the Giant Concert. Wow...I really was looking forward to this since hearing for decades about my brother seeing U2 here. All I can politely say is this this was not the venue's finest moment. Had to be 90 degrees in the place (you finally opened windows and hour or two into the event??), ran out of bottled water, the lighting was terrible and the sound, even WORSE. Really disappointing. The bands and especially the patrons deserve better.

Went to see Taylor Tomlinson so not exactly church BUT it was a very nice venue. Comfortable seats, cozy feeling all-in-all a great experience

I can’t recommend this enough. We went to one specific for Coldplay and I knew many of their songs would lend well to an orchestra but I was still blown away. Amazing sound and playing, stunning setup and great venue. Can’t wait to go again!

Yelp
*This review is for Fountain St., Church as a venue* Recently, I had the pleasure of seeing Dimitri Martin who was performing at Fountain St., Church as part of laugh fest. I had purchased assigned seating, and we were located in the front right hand section of the audience. Our seats were good, although it should be noted that the balcony does cover part of the seated section here, and depending on the event could be an obstruction at times. Fortunately, it did not interfere with our event. Fountain Street church is a magnificent building. I appreciate it. Beautiful architecture and rich history. Parking can be a bit challenging, but there are plenty of parking garages within walking distance, if you are unable to find street parking.

Yelp
Beautiful church in downtown GR. Saw the Western Michigan Gay Men's Chorus perform - they were excellent and the setting was the perfect background.

Yelp
**This is a review of Fountain Street Church as a venue.** My family attended a performance of Benjamin Britten's "Noah's Flood," put on by Opera Grand Rapids at Fountain Street Church. The building itself is magnificent, with a particularly striking rose window, comfortable, luxury seating, and amazing acoustics. I was quite taken with the masterful staging and performance of this piece at FSC. We sat in the balcony and had an excellent view. Parking, ticketing, and seating were all effortless. We have friends who attend regular services here and after paying the church a visit, we are inspired to come take part in their "usual programming."

Yelp
When I first moved to Grand Rapids in 1984, I was in search of a spiritual home. I was not a particular religious person, but I felt a need to connect to open-minded, liberal thinkers. I fell in love with FSC and everything it stands for. Compassion, social activism, tolerance, music, creativity, free thinking. It's a haven and an asset and so valuable to the tapestry of the Grand Rapids community. In addition, it is a physical work of art and such a joy to see. Beauty is everywhere.

Yelp
One of the most important places in my life. Fountain Street Church is where I learned to think for myself about all things involving belief, faith, religion and spirituality -- and, consequently, about everything else! Thank you, Fountain Street -- especially Duncan Littlefair, Bruce Bode and David Rankin.

Yelp
As a Catholic Church refugee, I was looking for a place where I could be spiritual without having to leave my past at the door. I found that at FSC and so much more. It is a great place and a great community of people. Definitely worth checking out if you are in a similar situation as me.

Yelp
I attended Fountain Street during my childhood with my parents and, later, was married there. I cannot describe how much it has meant to me my entire life. Duncan Littlefair was such a unique and inspiring speaker, dramatic and insightful, never afraid to address relevant issues. Beverly Howerton and Chuck Bertsch were gifted and caring musicians and teachers. There is no more beautiful church in the world, and I have now seen quite a few: glorious stained glass windows, elegant but not pretentious. It has been a beacon of strength and commitment to do what is right every day.
