I've never not tipped at a restaurant before, but the service here was so terrible I had to do it.
My 2 best friends and I went here for dinner and drinks on a Friday afternoon, and sat at the bar. When we arrived there were maybe 1-2 other parties in the building, and at no point in the evening would I have said the restaurant was overly busy. We received service at first, and ordered drinks (and I asked for a water that I never received), but that was the last time the staff ever initiated conversation with us. After that we got chips and salsa only because the owner overheard us asking for them, and we had to flag someone down to order food. The food was okay but not great. Richmond has too good of a food scene to come back for the food itself. We thought about ordering another round of very average drinks, but no one was coming to check on us so we decided against it. Probably 25-30 minutes later my friend had to shout at the bartender to get his attention to get checks. There's an automatic 20% applied, which they obviously hadn't earned since they barely helped us at all, so we asked to have that removed. On top of all that, there was an unnecessarily loud and seemingly drunk group that was ruining the ambiance for everyone dining, especially for a 5pm dinner. And of course the owner and bartender were all over getting that group served and taken care of which seemed slimy and disrespectful of all the other diners.
Again, Richmond has too many top notch restaurants with great service for this mediocre place to exist. If you're considering coming here, skip it and go to Big Chili's, Tres Macho's, Mi Jalisco, or any of the other much better Mexican restaurants in the area!
