Food carts and cocktail bar with heated outdoor seating

"Perhaps most renowned for Matt’s BBQ Tacos, the small Hinterland pod punches above its weight with well-executed fare like Hunker Down’s braised pork cheek and polenta, Third Culture Kitchen’s herbaceous Peruvian lomo, and Matt’s tender brisket tacos. Hinterland’s bar goes beyond the typical six-taps-and-a-wine pod bar, featuring 15 house cocktails with recommended cart pairings and hot sips like Irish coffee and hot toddies on those chilly days. The bar patio is fully sealed in the winter and warmed with powerful heaters." - Nathan Williams

"I also frequented the Hinterland pod, which is home to another set of favorites." - Eater Staff

"New American has been a Northwest staple genre for decades now, but few carts manage to pull off the broad, often-pricy category successfully. Poppyseed — located in the Hinterland carts between Southeast Hawthorne and Division — is a notable exception, offering seasonal treats like oysters on the half-shell, cider-brined pork chops, and a Mediterranean poke to the food cart crowd. Consult with Poppyseed’s team via the website to craft a menu best-suited for your event." - Danielle Centoni, Nathan Williams

"At 2216 SE 50th Avenue I visited the new Hinterland bar and food cart pod, which is the current home of Third Culture Kitchen." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

"After months of delay, I see Hinterland finally opening between Hawthorne and Division on SE 50th as a part-cocktail bar, part-food cart pod with expansive heated and covered outdoor seating, an indoor bar, mounted TVs, and room for five prized carts. Taylor Gehrts has built an extensive cocktail menu that includes a full list of drinks inspired by each cart (for example, a mezcal-Tajín drink for Matt’s BBQ Tacos and a horchata spiked with rum and fernet for La Taquiza Vegana), plus standards like an Old Fashioned, a hot toddy, brunch staples such as mimosas and marys, rotating brews on tap, tall-boys and High Life, and a short wine list featuring Goodfellow pinot noir and Forge riesling. Hinterland will also offer three spirit-free cocktails using ingredients like fennel-apple or marionberry shrubs, horchata, sparkling limeade, and basics like bottled soda and iced tea, and it opens to the public on Saturday, January 22." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden
