New Moon Chinese Restaurant

1/11/2025 Hello, it’s the picky eater again, I just wanted to share a few things in reference to one of my favorite takeout places in Connecticut. I treat myself to wonton soup with five extra wontons and a small house fried rice about once a week. So, after traveling, shopping and visiting family on Sunday, my husband and I decided we didn’t have the energy to cook dinner. Our first choice was Mona Lisa, in Waterbury( we are going to try the Family takeout menu for the first time ) but they were closed for vacation. So we opted to go to New Moon Chinese Resturant . As I have mentioned in some of my previous restaurant reviews, when I come across something that I enjoy , and the restaurant is consistent in how they make the food, and the food has plenty of flavors and choices, I usually frequent the establishment multiple times. My husband and I ordered takeout . This is what we ordered: one large wonton soup with five extra wontons, one large house fried shrimp and chicken rice , one general T’so chicken meal, fried chicken wings, and shrimp egg fu young. $49.00 plus tip. I enjoyed my regular picks Wonton soup( I add a lot of spinach, a boiled egg and rice to my soup )🍲. This was perfect for me. Everyone also has to keep in mind that I am a very finicky eater. But, I do try to go outside the box every now and again to try something different. I ordered the general T’so chicken. I do have to say it looked delicious, but it didn’t make the cut for me. I also don’t like foods that I have to chew for days. The general T’so was too salty for me and the meat was very stringy. I have to give that one a thumbs down. The fried chicken wings were good on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give them an 8. I cannot personally comment on any of the food that my husband ate, but, he did say it was delicious and he had it the next day for lunch. general T’so chicken did not do well with reheating, it was extremely hard and chewy the next day. The house fried rice and the wonton soup 👍🏽 all day long. I also will continue to get my regular large wonton soup with five extra wontons and a small house fried shrimp and chicken rice. (I usually get three meals out of this one order.)😋

Worker tried to tell me chow mein does not have noodles. I ordered shrimp chow mein and they gave me just veggies absolutely disgusting. Worker got aggressive with me over the phone. Very rude! Pictures showed what I received

Rib meat was hard and dry. Shrimp toast totally burnt, and woman on the counter screaming at staff with several customers in the store. The low main was good at least

Ordered a half fried chicken and its had no meat and quite honestly it looked disgusting. Very disappointed with what they served me, the picture does not do it justice because it was way worse.

Good location, easy access, and it has all the traditional Chinese food.

Sauce was bland. I got extra sauce. The ribs were tender and juicy, just wish sauce was a-little better. Pork fried rice was tasty . Egg roll, portion and price was also good!!

I ordered the general tso chicken extra spicy and extra sauce and for the first time it was perfectly made. The meat was crispy and sauced just right and it was steamy hot. Job well done to the chef

Great food, great service from the restaurant and delivery driver! I ordered later than usual and they made sure my food was hot and flavorful. I was too hungry for pics 😂 I ordered again tonight!!!

The egg foo young was solid! I got the shrimp one with the brown sauce on the side. I also enjoyed their crab Rangoon as I like a more sweet crab rangoon.

American Chinese good flavors not tooo sweet and the Chivken Wings are easy lunch. Keto friendly but Rice and egg rolls the way I like them. Greasy goodness and soup. Take out is fast and fresh real food.

Amazing pork with bean sprouts! Wonton soup is awesome as well. Definitely recommend. This is our go to spot

I am so thankful that New Moon is open during this pandemic as many of our Chinese restaurants have closed. Their food is tasty and fresh. They have it ready for you and make sure the process of picking up is pretty painless and with limited contact. We have ordered a couple times since they reopened and it has never been anything but a pleasant experience. If you're local, heck..... even if you're not local you should stop by and pick up some dinner.

Horrible owner gave the wrong order called me and yelled at me. So I drove back @ almost $5.00 a gallon and he yelled more. Worst part he gave the wrong order back out.

I was hoping to like this place but the food isn't to my liking. The brocolli is always hard and the beef is always tough. Also it's a bit pricey for the quality. I don't think I'll be ordering from New Moon anymore.

Awesome Chinese food ...absolutely in love with their food. However the decor leaves a lot to be desired . But if you want good Chinese food , this is the place to order it

My mom which is 93 years old, she loves their Wonton soup I ordered her one yesterday and she did not like it at all. The filling was just gizzards not grinded at all, whole pieces very upset. Don't know if they changed the way they make it.

There is another location down the street called New Moon II. Please be aware that this is NOT a related establishment before leaving a review. I've been coming here since I was a 9 year old with my family. Is it the best looking place? Probably not. Is their food good as hell? Yes! The owners of this establishment are such a pleasure to order from. No matter when in CT I am, I make sure to order from this particular Chinese restaurant. If they are closed on a particular day of the week, I will wait til the next day to eat Chinese takeout. That's how loyal I am to this location, and to their delicious food. I found that no one else can replicate their fresh and tasty menu to my liking. I'm a regular here of course, so they already know me by name, what I'm going to order, and how I'm going to order it - which is a huge plus for me. I usually request to have my food prepared spicy, and without fail it's made with the perfect amount of spice. Never too little, and never too much. They actually devain their shrimp too, which is another plus. Give this location a try! You won't be disappointed.

Food was prepared and cooked well Good portion Delivery driver was pleasant Easy to navigate app for order. Had. Shrimp and. Chicken,, Chow mein extra. Pork roll Prices were better than other locals Odered from. New. Moon. Watertown. Ave ,will again.

How long has it been, almost 20 years? Yes, I have been coming here with my parents back in the day when we were in the mood for Chinese and I still come here whenever I am back in the area. It is just your typical Chinese take out, the food is flavorful and delicious. The fried rice is sometimes greasy, but still very good. I have tried almost everything and my favorites are the sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken and general Tao's. The sesame chicken and general Tao's have the right amount of sauce, if not more, which tastes great when mixed in with the fried rice. Yummmmmm. I usually order take out as opposed to delivery. Nothing wrong with their delivery, I am just used to going there and waiting, which is never very long anyway as my order is usually ready after ten minutes. Also, delivery sometimes takes a bit longer. When I want Chinese food, I'd rather go pick it up, and usually scarf down the appetizer (usually crab Rangoon) before I even get back home. Yes, the food is that good. And still, they are very good with substitutions when it comes to your order. A big plus right there. I'll probably get some New Moon for dinner tomorrow now rereading my review update. I just drooled all over my phone. Literally.

We ordered food last night , and found a fly in our food. Very gross we called and they said want us to send another one m SMH ummm no not ever again .

The food is always great! It's worth waiting for the food to be cooked to order. One time I did an online order and delayed greatly in picking it up. To my welcome surprise when I came in expecting to take an order that was cold, I had to wait for my order because they were making it fresh. Excellent customer service .

Ordered take out, the chicken wings were tasty, crispy, not bad. The vegetable lomein was dry and had only 3 snow peas, 2 pieces of broccoli and very little else in there.

Fast delivery.i like the food no complain about it.i always call for deliver my food.everything taste good.

We ordered takeout for delivery on a Wednesday night. 40 minutes later I called to see how long would it take after they told me 30 min . The guy who answered the phone was so rude . After a hour and 10 minutes later our food came and it was cold. We order from here regularly and never spend less then $40 but there is always a problem this is the last straw.

First time ordering here, and I am extremely impressed. 10 minutes from order to pick up. Food was hot and tasted great. The young lady on the phone was very pleasant and courteous. The young man who rang me up was pleasant and courteous. And I saw the cook and delivery staff actually chatting and enjoying themselves and laughing. I'll definitely be back. Bones's ribs and rice were on point.

Ordered beef pepper and onion dish. Charged me $12,85 and ended up with a bunch of Sautéed veggies with very little beef. Won't order from there again.

It may be my own fault for having unrealistic expectations about something ive never ordered before, but i was under the impression that chow mein was supposed to involve noodles. Instead i got a container of swampy, slimey vegetables over rice. Again this could be my own fault, but what i got was not good. Live and learn i suppose

Food is hit or miss. Some days it's great, otherwise it's dry, or tastes kinda old. They do offer delivery which is what keeps me coming back. Delivery is reliable and punctual. Customer service is average but quick. I believe it's only take out or delivery. Price is average for Chinese food. Most chinese resturants; when placing large orders accommodate appreciation with a free two liter or egg rolls this place does not offer these bonuses. (we have a family of 10 so our orders average between $40 & $100)

Called at for delivery at 6:30 on a rainy night so we expected the wait to be a bit longer than usual. An hour later...no food. Called and was told it was on it's way. Half an hour later...still no food. Called and was told it should be there soon.15 minutes later they called and said they dropped the food on the floor and if we still wanted it. Yes we do. We returned the call and told them we would come pick it up since at this point it had already been almost 2 hours. We get down there and were told that they lost the ticket and that's why we didn't get our food. I reminded them we called multiple times and that it had been 2 hours now since the initial order. The only compensation they offered was a free 2 liter of soda on top of the one we already paid for. What is a free 2 liter of soda going to do for us? I've worked in restaurants most of my life. If this were to happen anywhere else, we would have comped the customers food or at the very least given a gift certificate. Needless to say I reminded them of that and we will no longer be going back. On top of it all my boyfriend took 2 bites of his meal and pulled a long blonde hair out of his mouth. Neither myself or our two girls (who are now eating dinner at 8:30 at night) have blonde hair. But the counter girl does. So now his food is in the garbage. What a waste of time and money. The only reason I gave two stars instead of 1 was because my crab rangoons were good

We placed our order @ 7:45 p.m. We were told 45 minutes. He got to our address @ 9:00. They add $1 if the delivery is 3 miles or more. We were charged even though we are 2.3 miles away. It's only a dollar but it's a damn sneaky thing to do. Check your bill for extra charges. That's the 2nd time it took over an hour. We'll find another place.

Believe it or not it's the best take-out Chinese food I've ever had. Everything tastes fresh. The fried rice is moist and the chicken is tender and juicy. The restaurant is clean and the prices are reasonable.

The food is OK the lady owner has a bad attitude and every time they deliver to my house they forget something The place doesn't look to clean either

Honestly couldn't deliver and I'm only 5 miles away..I can't pick up, I'm busy, that's why I asked for the delivery! You can't be too busy with 2 drivers to not deliver that far..disappointed.

Food is good but nothing great, place is very dirty. Dust everywhere, furnishings are stained, kitchen greasy, dusty, cluttered this place is disgusting

I have used this place for years thinking it was great. I don't know if they have new MGMT or they've just gotten ridiculously greedy, but their prices have gone up ALOT We ask for a couple of extra sweet sauce since we always get large orders (60.00) and up. On Christmas eve we order nearly 200.00 worth for our eve's festivities. The last time we ordered from them, again over 60.00, they charged us for the extra sauce - firs time in 13 years! I've never thought much of the facade of the place and the fact that their kid is always there. The place is not clean, small and crammed. Their food used to be great. But not these last few times. Stinks because we have to find a new place for Christmas eve

Used to order takeout here for years, it was the only place in Waterbury that I would trust for fresh Chinese food. That was until I personally visited today. While waiting for the nice lady to take my order(she was busy finishing up an order on the phone) while waiting, my eyes wanders around the kitchen area where my eye catches a kitchen working cutting up some raw chicken, and throwing it in a bucket(presumably, to cook up later as needed) while doing this, the kitchen worker let out a tremendous wet sneeze into the bucket of chicken, and continued cutting like nothing happened. Gentleman standing next to him saw me, and decided to come take my order ( I think he thought I didn't see what just happened) he asked if he could take my order, I asked of he was the owner. He nodded yes, and asked if there was a problem, to which i replied " I will never order from here again...EVER!

I would leave NO STARS if possible. I used to love this place, I ordered from them all the time when I lived on Madeline Ave. in Waterbury. I moved to Oronoke Rd. in Waterbury and at first they were great as usual. Then they started forgetting stuff or being rude and overbilling. When I questioned I got rude response. I just today placed another order since I haven't in almost a year and now IT"S WORSE! They have someone who doesn't SPEAK ENGLISH answer phone and try to decipher what you are ordering, the GUY is totally STUPID and doesn't know English! Wrong crap, will NEVER ORDER OR TRUST THEM AGAIN!!!!!

We USED to order from there regularly but we will never order from New Moon again! My husband and I are just finishing up with the worst food poisoning!!! It was so bad I thought I was going to have to go yo the hospital. I plan on reporting them to the health dept.
