Hotel Calimala (Florence, Tuscany) 9 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"When it comes to the dramatic, almost reckless combination of old and new, there’s still no one quite like Italy’s boutique hoteliers. In the case of Florence’s Hotel Calimala, they’ve got an ally in British/Israeli designer Alex Meitlis, of Ottolenghi restaurant fame, whose interiors here mix original architectural features like crumbling stone walls with custom-designed modern furniture and lighting. And of course they start with some pretty promising raw material: an ornate and beautifully weathered 19th-century palazzo on Via Calimala, right in the heart of the city’s historic center." - Tablet Hotels

Some good, some improvements needed. Overall great experience and will be back. Stayed in the east building on via Calimala. ||Some nitpicky improvements: 1) there was a foul odor in the elevator (that I forgot to mention to the staff); it may have only been temporary, though, so probably not a big problem. 2) the scent diffusers near the elevator are overpowering, they should have a more delicate odor. 3) when serving drinks at the bar, you should provide a little something to eat, like nuts, olives or potato chips. 4) the boiler providing hot water to the bathrooms is set too low; I would increase by about 7-10 degree C. 5) The toilet tissue, while clearly strong, resembles sandpaper. I suggest changing brands. ||I can't speak for the noise that others mention, because I live in New York, and noise doesn't really bother me. The breakfast buffet is fine, and pretty much like every other breakfast buffet in Italy. I found the room temperature quite comfortable. I would suggest putting sheers on the windows, to allow for privacy, but would let light in. ||On the plus side, the location is perfect - it's the only neighborhood I would stay in in Florence. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The rooms, while on the small side are very nicely decorated and comfortable. I had two windows, and a view of the Signoria. The value for the money is exceptional, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

I stayed at Hotel Calimala for 5 nights, and it was genuinely the best hotel experience I’ve ever had. The rooms are beautiful and the bed is truly high-end — I slept deeply every night. Breakfast is a solid 10/10, and the coffee is a piece of art on its own. But what really makes this place special is the service. The staff and the personal attention they give are simply exceptional. I honestly can’t wait to come back. Highly recommended.

Hotel Calimala exceeded all expectations. The accommodations were outstanding—especially for a tall individual. I highly recommend contacting the hotel in advance to request the Superior Double with a king-size bed, which offered exceptional comfort and space. The included breakfast was absolutely worth the price. The attendants were outstanding—warm, attentive, and truly committed to providing a great start to the day. The hotel’s design, service, and overall experience were phenomenal. I highly recommend Hotel Calimala and fully plan to return. I’m also looking forward to trying their hotel brand in Milano on my next trip.

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Calimala, a true urban gem located right in the heart of Florence. The location couldn’t be more perfect – every charming street, café, and piece of history is just steps away. From the very first moment, the experience was impeccable. We received a complimentary room upgrade, with the balcony I had originally wished for (even though it wasn’t available on Booking) — a thoughtful gesture that speaks volumes about the team’s attention to detail and genuine care for their guests. The design beautifully blends modern style with Italian elegance, and the attention to detail is remarkable: the slippers in both cream and black tones, the soft ambient lighting, and the refined finishes create an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and personal. The bed was extremely comfortable, but what truly stood out were the pillows — soft yet supportive, clearly of premium quality. For me, good pillows are essential for a proper night’s rest, and Hotel Calimala exceeded all expectations. The staff was kind, discreet, and attentive — always present without being intrusive. It’s the kind of place where you feel that everything has been thoughtfully arranged for your comfort, transforming a simple stay into a memorable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Hotel Calimala to anyone seeking authentic elegance, premium comfort, and that rare attention to detail that captures the true spirit of Florence.

Hotel Calimala was a fantastic place to stay in Florence. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city and within easy walking distance of the major sights, shops, and restaurants. The design is stylish and modern while still warm and welcoming. The staff were very helpful and made us feel at home. The rooftop terrace is a real highlight with stunning views over the city and a great place to relax. The rooms are a bit cozy but very comfortable and thoughtfully designed. Overall, a wonderful stay and I would happily return.
