Incredible food! As a Taishanese, this food is not only authentic but so delicious, one of the best meals i’ve had in SF in a while. Yellow eel rice was phenomenal, crispy, well seasoned. Roasted chicken was juicy and moist. Clam taro soup was hearty and clean tasting. Beancurd morning glory was well cooked and tasty. also got the spicy fish in chili oil which was crisp grass carp, surprisingly fresh and good for a non-cantonese dish. Overall I would come back with my taishanese parents. Don’t be fooled by the unassuming atmosphere and un renovated interior, food is dank!

I came here on good reviews and I was not disappointed. I got the hot and sour soup and the beef and chili oil. The wintermint bao buns hit my sweet tooth and my absolute favorite was the siu mai. Bursting with goodness and full of flavor! Will be back. A neighbor for the chicken and it looked phenomenal.

Homestyle cooking of authentic taishan food. My favorite is their salt and pepper ribs and their spicy sliced pork belly. Add a bowl of rice to complete the full meal. Though a bit greasy, it’s what’s needed for the “wok hey” (flavor to come out of the ingredients). I for one would be coming back here to try their other foods. I love that this place is open late night till 3am and service is swift. Lots of indoor seating for small and large parties.

The only good thing about this place is that it’s open late. But honestly, if you’re craving late-night food, you’d be better off getting a bowl of pho or ramen elsewhere. - Food Quality (2/5): The claypot rice was missing the signature crispy bottom layer. The beef bone soup was just plain broth with ginger and lotus root, absolutely not worth $24.95. The “Five Flavor Goose” turned out to be sweet-and-sour goose, which was way too sweet. They should’ve just done a proper Hong Kong-style roast goose. The clams? Way too salty, completely overwhelming. - Service & Pricing (0/5): The worst part? They automatically add tips to your bill without notice, even though tipping is voluntary in California. Not only that, but they included takeout items in the total bill to calculate the tip, which is completely unfair and deceptive! Tipping is meant for service, not takeout. On top of that, they still print suggested tip amounts to squeeze even more money out of customers. - Ambiance (1/5): The place is old and dirty, adding to the disappointment. For the price, the food was disappointing, the service was rude, and the sneaky tipping practice was unethical. Save yourself the frustration, go somewhere else!

We stopped by Taishan Cuisine for a supper and ordered the beef fried noodles and char siu wantan noodles. We were shocked to find both dishes made with instant noodles, not fresh egg noodles like the menu photos showed which was a huge letdown. When I asked, the owner said, “Yes, but we use EGG instant noodles.” For $38+tax for two dishes, that’s really disappointing. The taste was okay, but using instant noodles at that price point feels misleading. Just a heads-up, if you order noodles here, they’re instant, not fresh.

Flys all around, service was quick only good thing. Worst canto Chinese food I've had in years. Chow fun was gooey, Beijing pork was sweet and sour pork and not fried, coconut shrimp was just mayo. The only reason this place exist is because it is open till 3 am. Do not eat here even if it's late it is hilariously bad.

The restaurant is a bit noisy but food is definitely superb! We had the yellow eel rice clay pot and it came in huge portions (prolly could feed 5+ people) and was really delicious. The vege and Chinese broccoli are also very flavorful and freshly made. We totally enjoyed our time here.

So many restaurants to choose from in Chinatown. You can order family style, dim sum, hot pot and variety of foods. We came at 8:30pm and ordered a bunch of dishes before the chef went on a break at 9pm. -Melon soup - hit the spot on this cold night -Beef stir fry noodles - basically instant noodles -Clams - these were huge! -Intestines - love the texture and seasoning -Whole chicken - they are known for this dish and they debone it for you -Chinese sausage rice clay pot - also known for the eel clay pot but we went safe and got Chinese sausage Overall, great dishes. We had to move to a larger table to fit all the dishes.

This is a nice little restaurant in Chinatown, definitely felt cozy and authentic. We shared a couple dishes: -Sichuan chicken was probably my favorite, but it def wasn't the best Sichuan chicken I've had and was a bit heavy on the breading. -sweet & sour soup was a bit too thick and sweet for my liking, definitely wouldn't order again. -Mapo tofu was definitely not spicy enough and was lacking in flavor -pan fried wontons were perfectly made and very tasty -egg tarts were tasty and sweet Overall the food is decent, and reasonably priced. My biggest complaint was the noise levels in the restaurant - the owner appeared to have a young child that enjoyed shaking a giant glass jar of coins, making it nearly impossible to have a conversation at our table for most of our meal. Everyone in the restaurant seemed bothered, but the owners didn't really seem to care. If I come back, I would definitely want to try the clay pot rice. I saw some tables order this and it looked amazing.

Waited 30 minutes for the most bland food I've ever had. I ordered the beef chow fun and had about three pieces of beef in the entire dish. Then ordered a wonton soup that had mini bugs and random hairs in it. Absolutely disgusting. I don't think the vegetables were even washed. Everything was $55 Appalled that the reviews are even so high, but I understand the high prices since there are many drunk people looking for food post night out. Service was slow and no one came over, everytime I had to stand up and ask to order / for cups and utensils. It was extremely loud as well. Wanted to like this place but will never be coming back.

Sunday night around 2 am, we were looking for a Chinese spot to grab some food. Yelp showed two other places open but after driving there, both were closed. Luckily Taishan Cuisine didn't let us down and was actually open (until 3am!) like their page suggested. Want to start off by saying that this is a classic hole in the wall spot run by the cutest family. If you're expecting 10/10 service by American standards, this probably won't be your cup of tea; but if you want a homey, intimate vibe, this is it! No frills, just great food and fun time. We were seated upon entering and given menus. Nice warm tea (using actual tea leaves!) was provided. We ordered pan fried pork baos and beef chow fun. The beef chow fun came out about in about 10 minutes and the buns came maybe 5-10 minutes after that. The beef in the chow fun was extremely tender and yummy, there was a decent amount of meat but would have loved a bit more for the price. Bug portion, personally I would have wanted a bit more sauce on the noodles, but it still tasted good! Pan fried baos were exactly what I was hoping for -- the crisp at the bottom was just 10/10 and the filling was juicy and flavorful. Overall, I would definitely come back (maybe next time not at 2am) when I'm looking for a cozy Chinese spot.

Do not skip the roasted chicken! This whole roasted chicken gets broken down right at your table as the server is hand shredding it for you. The skin is a bit on the chewy side, although the meat is extremely tender all throughout. It's roasted with this rich, sweet and savory marinade that enhances the chicken's flavor. My table also ordered the house special fried rice which has egg and Chinese sausage mixed in, but it also has some shredded lettuce which was different to me but surprisingly refreshing. We enjoyed a nice early lunch here, but this spot is also one the few late night spots in the area that's open until early AM hours!

Late night wonton noodles, this is as good as itl get if you want noodles past midnight in sf

It was late and my friend, Ray, and I were on our way to the Hilton Union Square and starving. I knew that Chinatown has restaurants open for late night dining. Via yelp search, we found Taishan Cuisine that is open until 3 AM every day of the week. We arrived around midnight on Sunday night/early Monday morning of October 13/14, 2024...right before the rush started. The venue does not have a private lot, but we found street parking right in front of the restaurant. Upon arrival, we were seated within two minutes. The place was brightly lit and until more and more customers started arriving, I didn't realize that they have two dining rooms. I didn't look around very much, but the cleanliness level looked to be fair. Though, when I asked Ray how the bathroom was, he said, "You don't want to use it," telling me that it looked clean, but you could tell that "something happened in there." That was enough for me to avoid the restroom, no elaboration needed. Ray observed that most of Taishan Cuisine's patrons were Chinese and this convinced him that the food must be good here. Below are the items that we ordered. House Special chow Mein ($15.95) - The noodles appeared to be made of those found in instant ramen packages, but I actually liked this dish with the Chinese sausage. I couldn't touch the pieces of pork belly. Pan fried pork dumplings (6) ($11.95) - These tasty potstickers were served with a side bowl of a white seasoning. Ray thought it was salt, but it was sugar. I enjoyed these dumplings and the sweet addition added another level of flavour. hot and sour soup ($13.95) - I was not a fan of this. There were some textures that were oddly hard. Ray found it to be a bit too spicy. Shrimp dumplings (4) ($10.95) - Ray really liked Taishan's har gow. They weren't bad, but I have had better at other places. Beef w/chinese Broccoli(cauliflower) ($18) - OK. The meat didn't appeal to me much because it wasn't as lean as I expected. When Ray said that a piece of tendon got stuck in his throat, I ate only the veggies from that point on. This dish is not worth the price. Siu mai (4) ($9.95) - This was Ray's favourite of all the items that we ordered. I found the flavour to be a little off than what I am used to, so I ate only one piece. Service was not bad, but it was a bit challenging to flag someone down to ask for things. We were one of only three tables of customers who did not speak Chinese. Perhaps the language barrier was the reason why we had difficulty figuring out who were staff members. The waitress who served us was the main server and, thankfully, she spoke English. Ray and I were amused by how she busily tended to everyone...with a young infant in tow, fully asleep in a carrier on her back. Interestingly, there was also a young child, no older than four or five years, hanging out and crying at the hostess counter. He was probably tired and ready for bed since it was past midnight. Needless to say, the environment was very interesting, to say the least. After we left and made it to our hotel, Ray realized that he forgot his murse at Taishan. When we called them, they assured us that they had his bag, so we quickly returned and easily picked it up. They definitely earned extra points for this in Ray's book. Would I return? Maybe...if I need to find a late-night eatery in San Francisco and nothing else is open.

Came here for the blue crab which was delicious, fresh, and has the roe. Woulda given this place a 5 for this, but the goose was the worst I've ever had. It was tough and dry, clearly microwaved. I complained to the waitress and she had the nerve to tell me it's supposed to taste this way. Are you kidding me? I've had better at HK airport.

"if i could give this zero stars, i would" ... literally. SERVICE: we walked in with a group of 5, and were seated fairly quickly. BUT no one approached us to take our order for ~20 minutes, didn't even look in our direction. we ended up having to go to the front to tell them that we were ready to order, they said they would come over, and instead we see them addressing other tables who came in *after* us. it took them another 15 minutes and another reminder to come back to us. FOOD: absolutely disgusting. felt like throwing up. we ordered XLBs, shrimp dumplings, and pan fried pork buns. - pork buns: the bread portion was so dry, and the whole bun was falling apart. - shrimp dumplings: skin was too thick but flavor was good - XLB: the worst i've ever had. the skin was very thick, dough was literal GOOP and just stuck to the basket (see pictures).

There's multiple Taishans (and they keep expanding!). Compared to other locations, the Broadway one has the biggest bonus of having the most tables and is my go-to for when I grab a larger party during dinner rush hours. The food is mostly the same across the Taishans; it's comfort food and the price is good. However, the menu is a mix of hits and so-so dishes and I stick to what I know or what my friends recommend when I order. I personally love the baked pork buns and recommend all their clay pot dishes. The clay pot dishes all have great crispy rice and the flavor I look for when I get a clay pot.

Taishan Cuisine offers a pleasant mix of dishes, and my recent visit left me with a few highlights. The eggs with jumbo prawns were a standout, with generous portions and a silky, perfectly seasoned scrambled egg that was simply delightful. The fish fillet was another tasty dish that I'd easily order again. Their carb options and stir-fried veggies were also well-executed, rounding out a satisfying meal. On the flip side, the Taishan five flavor goose, recommended by the staff, fell short. It was overly dry, and it seemed like they tried to revive it with a heavy-handed amount of sauce, which didn't help. One thing I really appreciate is how extensive the menu is, especially for such a small restaurant. They even serve dim sum and clay pot dishes, which I'm eager to try on future visits. The food comes out quickly, and they're the only place I know of in Chinatown that stays open past midnight, making it a great spot for late-night Chinese diner food. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Taishan Cuisine.... I don't want to be mean but then again I got to give my honest review right. So at first glance into this place of establishment I was a bit skeptical, it truly is a hole in the wall type joint. I think it is family ran, the place could use some love though. It was a super busy night and the grandma carrying the baby on her back while she was working tried her best but was not as good as the young daughter. Grandma tried to put in food orders and fulfill to go orders and failed miserably at one point into the night while waiting for our food, I felt like jumping in to help her. She also struggled to take payments and clean up the tables. Two parties had left already and the tables were still a mess. The other party that came before us waited for a long time before their food came out because we got our food before they did. When our food did finally arrived it came fast for us and eh it was OK. Food came in big portions though, but was lack luster in presentation and flavor. Reviews on this place is mixed. Grandpa and auntie cooking in the back did their best to push out the orders. I felt bad for food delivery folks they waited the longest to get their pick up orders. Also there is a cute lil kiddo running around while the young daughter was working. I believe the children were hers they were super cute. Be warned ahead of time check your bill when it comes. This place automatically includes tip in your bill and if you aren't careful enough to look at your bill you will end up accidentally double tipping. This I didn't like and probably knocked down some stats for me. Would I come back next time? No not really but since they are one of the few late night spots open till 3am then maybe if I was super hungry and there is no other options.

Hadn't been to Chinatown in a long time. Streets are not as busy at night but the restaurants are getting a lot of tourist and local love. I was surprised how good their food here was. Porridge was flavorful. Fried pancake was really good, light and flaky. Tasty too. Their Chow Fun was my favorite. Not sure if they make their own noodles but it was delicious. I highly recommend you order. Their dim sum was also delicious and served all day during their business open hours. I highly recommend to dine here when you are in Chinatown. Service was excellent. Love the small family vibe. Cheers!

Small place near around Chinatown that does hotpot, dim sum, and who would have guessed, taishanese cuisine. The Taishan specialty, Yellow Eel Claypot Rice (台山黃鱔飯) is very flavorful. It's a big portion that is probably enough to share between 3-4 people. I think specifically the Yellow Eel Claypot Rice from The Claypot House has more of an eel flavor, but this place is a lot easier to get to. The goose is really tasty too and worth getting.

Came here for dinner while visiting SF after a hiking in Yosemite. My cousins and I were really craving some good, home cooked Chinese food. This place hit the spot! It's definitely my kind of comfort while traveling. My family is from Taishan, so my taste buds were happy! I ordered the fresh chicken coconut soup, and it was so soothing and tasty. The maggi sauce prawns were fresh and delicious! Also love me some good garlic four season green beans. The 5 flavor goose was delicious? But I could still see some hair so I didn't eat the skin! Great cooking and not overly salty!

They put an automatic 16% tip on your bill that you cannot remove. I had a party of two and was unaware of the automatic charge, because it also says "Tips Suggestions" at the bottom. If you're not careful and don't read, you could be tipping them extra!! This is a no frills pretty authentic family owned restaurant. They won't talk to you unless you talk or wave them over, and there was even a little kid throwing a tantrum at around 10pm on a Sunday. This is probably the only dim sum restaurant open until 3am in San Francisco, which is a plus because the food was honestly really good. A bit expensive though. Don't come here if you're expecting great service, speak up or stay hungry in your seat! We ordered steamed wontons, wonton in hot sauce, curried potato rolls, pan fried pork dumpling, sui mai, xiao long bao, custard buns, walnut fried shrimps and taishan fried noodle. Everything was delicious except that the steamed wontons we ordered came out in this extremely bland soup (would not recommend), and the wontons itself were more flavorful in the hot sauce dish we got instead, so get the wontons in hot sauce. Also, I ordered the house special chow mein but they gave me the taishan fried noodle instead, which was essentially instant ramen noodles fried with chinese sausage, a bit of pork belly and onions. I would have preferred the usual chow mein noodles. Regardless everything else was delicious! I would highly recommend getting the walnut fried shrimps, pan fried pork dumpling and sui mai. Make sure to ask for soy sauce and chili oil. Will be returning, not for the kinda high prices but for the fact that they do have yummy food and are open until 3am!!

Solid choice for late night dining. Perfect for the midnight hankering for quality Chinese. You'll pay a touch more, but they are open late in to the witching hour. A much better option than Denny's or IHOP. Authentic flavors here and travels well if you are getting to go, or delivered. We tried the Bao, Braised Beef, Honey Walnut Shrimp and Chow Mein. Portions were gracious, enough for 6 soon to be hung over adults LOL. No pictures to share since we got everything to go, but I'm super happy we found this place.

They pre-charge 16% tip on your bill before you even pay. We were having a good time enjoying their food (food was good) but the night was ruined when we were paying for the bill. I understand if we were a large group and they add gratituty but it was just a group of 4x people and we order 4x dishes which resulted to $100 alone. I like to leave cash tip and was about to leave the 15% tip in cash but completely caught off guard when looking over the bill. I shouldn't be forced like that. Tips are not mandatory. They just drop off the bill and ran off to avoid confrontation. Completely shady and rude. You've been warned.

Nothing tasty here. ALL of the chicken was deep fried, including chicken in the chicken fried rice and Kung pao chicken. Nothing had any spice. Fried rice and won ton soup both lacked flavor and salt. Would not return.

Taishan Cuisine serves up Taishan Chinese Food in San Francisco's Chinatown. We've been to the location on Powell and gotten takeout from the one around the corner, on Broadway. They are open late and are a no frills spot. Folks like the Four Kings Chef like to come here after hours. Stick to Taishan and Cantonese items, don't even think about the Soup dumplings which are from Shanghai area. Safety Pluses - Online menu, Delivery services available, online ordering. Food Review: Spicy Beef with Chili Oil ($25) is expensive but a large portion. Not super spicy, roughly 4/10. Not bad but really more of a Hunan dish. 7/10 Veg fried rice noodle ($14.95) is plain but perfect for vegans. 7.5/10 Yellow eel steamed rice ($48 for large) is huge, enough for 8 people to share. Nice crisp crust although they could have cooked it longer. 8/10 This is much better than the spare rib claypot. Taishan Roasted Chicken ($29) is a signature dish and brings you a nicely cooked, juicy whole bird. Tender meat. 8.5/10 Sesame balls ($10.95) have purple potato filling and are freshly fried. Just expensive. 8.5/10 Taishan Beef Bone soup ($16.95 for medium) is their soup of the day. Lots of flavor plus meats, and veggies. 8.5/10 Stir Fried Pea shoots with garlic ($18) is done right, not overcooked or too greasy. 8.5/10 Salt and pepper tofu ($13.95) is also done just right. Highly recommened. 9/10 Overall - Very Good Food - Very Good Decor - Fair Service - Fair Value - Very Good Would we come back - Yes

Late night eats after RM212 and Lion Den in Chinatown. This place open really late after 2am and service is good and fast. Food is pretty good for late night eats. Definitely recommend this place and the workers are very hard working. Even carrying around her baby on her back while taking orders and bringing food out. That is a supermom and her son is so good. Sleep through everything.

I came here with my fam after a Pink Sweats concert and I can't believe how delicious everything we got was! How in the world did they make their clay pot rice so delicious?! We also got the scallion pancakes and soup dumplings. Every single thing we had was an absolute banger. They open until 3AM! That's crazy! Clay pot rice- I've only eaten at one other place where the clay pot rice has rivaled this one, and my gosh this one blew me away. I got the kohlrabi clay pot rice and it was as if the pearly gates of taste buds just blew wide open. Everything from the toppings to the rice texture to the crispy rice bottom was perfect. It's rare to have crispy rice that would come off the bottom of the pot intact so easily but this place has perfected it. The juices from the meats and the oil on the rice was too die for! Soup Dumpling- The soup was delicious and the skin was super thin! I don't know how the skin was able to keep everything together so well. It blew my mind. Filling was nice and juicy and skin was thin but tasted delicious. I can't stop thinking about them! Scallion Pancakes- Oh so crispy and flaky. If I could eat 10 of these, I would. Super oily but that somehow added to the flavor. The flakiness was nice and crispy at the same time. Flavor I can't even describe but it tasted like a crispy, flat biscuit.

I had never gone into this spot before, but I was very pleasantly surprised! The inside is very cozy and enjoyable vibes, and the food was flavorful. Plus it's open super late till 3am! Definitely on the saltier side, but prefer that over no flavor. Portion sizes are decently large, and they include tip in your bill. You can definitely comfortably feed 4 people with $80! My only 1 star ding is that there was a pebble in my food. I'm glad I didn't bite down on it, but it was pretty sizable!

Whenever I come to SF, I always have to make a stop at Taishan Cuisine. This is one of my top restaurants in SF period. Service is good and the food is spectacular. From the soups to the clay pot rice, everything is delicious. Highly recommend getting their stir-fried clams and their veggie dishes - so much wok hei! Interior is clean and spacious, good for big group dinners.

Had the fried beef fried noodle. The meat was extremely tender and flavorful. The sauce was perfectly seasoned in the noodles. The only weakness is the noodle. It looked like instant noodles and honestly it felt like I was eating instant noodles. It's only a complaint if you don't like instant noodles texture or feel like youre overpaying. I'd come back for the food. Waitresses were overwhelmed with being the only restaurant open after 2am but we're nice and damn efficient.

A complete hole in the wall, mom pop sort of place. It seems the people here come knowing exactly what to order. We didn't but still enjoyed our time! The good: - I liked the smiley, friendly no rush service. Our tea pot was always full to share - green beans were amazing - pan fried bun was good, wish the bottom was a bit crispier but it reminded me of my favorite banh bao The meh: - the lamb stew was a dud for us. We even asked the waitress beforehand if the lamb would be soft and tender. They were sort of just hard chewy pieces along the bone. There was hardly any stew, which was just salty af

The food was pretty good but not sure if it was cause it was good or we were just starving. From the time we ordered to when we got our food it was I Ly about 10 min. But from the time you get seated to when they give you the menu and put you silverware and plates on the table was 15 min when they actually take your order was at least 35 min. Paying was fine cause I literally just walked up to the counter. There were countless times where we just wanted to leave with out ordering and just go home. It was quite pricy for a Chinese restaurant it was $20 per dish. But despite all this they are the only restaurants that open late so I will be back for sure.

This is the worst dim sum/Chinese food I ever had. It was doughy, and it was like they were frozen and they reheated it too long on the steamer so it was mushy. Be sure to check the bill too, they tip themselves on a part of 4! I accidentally tipped twice, this really ticked me off since the service wasn't all that, and that's sneaky. This prompted me to give the bad review and let the world know how bad the food is.

Great Cantonese food and good environment! I particularly liked the clay pot rice with pork belly and sausage which both tasted and smelled so good. Also really enjoyed the whole roasted chicken which was super juicy and tender. The string beans were also solid! My one gripe was the dim sum here, it wasn't very good, especially the XLB which almost tasted like it had been frozen. Would recommend this spot for all the dishes except the dim sum!

Great late night spot with lots of delicious authentic food! One of my go to places for Chinese

I came with a couple of friends while in town for a conference. We tried the tofu clay pot and vegetable fried noodle; overall, the food was tasty and delicious! I was initially skeptical of the instant noodle looking noodles on the plate, but they were well seasoned and tasty. The noodles worked surprisingly well for this dish. To be honest, I wasn't even very hungry, but I found myself going back for more. The portions are also generous. This causal spot has definitely earned its positive reviews. I would definitely come back if I'm in the area!

Food is authentic as they come. We love to come here everytime we are in the city and want a hearty family style meal, as they have enough to take home for next day!

The food tasted good but it wasn't our favourite Chinese restaurant in the area. Portions are large but don't order the dim sum it's super over priced. This place is good for large groups, they have a bunch of big tables in the back! This place is also always filled with people so lots of good foot traffic.

Very good authentic Chinese food with some language barriers. We had dim sung and it was very delicious!

This place is open late night till 3am. They also deliver via uber eats & door dash. Must order the Scallop Vermicelli- full of scallops and chunks of garlic bits. So good! The Honey Walnut Prawns is delightful as well. Chicken is delicious, plenty of things to chow down on after a night of drinking!

We were sat right away, and served super quickly! The food was fresh and delicious! Super sweet and friendly service in a great community. Definitely visiting again.

Several servers bringing dishes and clearing tables, but the hostess expertly managed the entire dining room/experience. Came for dinner on a Saturday night to a busy restaurant and a small wait. Bustling atmosphere. Lots of families. Huge portions. Lamb stew - bean curds were the standout in this dish. The texture and flavor of the bean curds complimented the savory stew well. Lamb is bone-in, skin on (very interesting!), and meaty. Pork with preserved egg congee - classic and comforting. Lots of pork and century egg pieces Chiu chow dumplings - perfectly steamed skin Definitely want to try their roasted chicken. It seemed like every table ordered it. They bring the whole roasted chicken and break it down at your table.

Awesome spot for late night eats! They open until 3AM!! I think we probably came around 2:30AM or so. The place was packed with folks eating inside. We ordered the century egg porridge, house special fried rice, and string beans. Portions are large. Each dish is on the higher end, but in my opinion, I think the value is still there. Brought the food back to the hotel and ate, and it was still piping hot. Definitely appreciate hot food on a cold night! Street parking only. This spot is definitely good for your Chinese food eats! If you've never tried taishanese cuisine 台山饭菜, this is a decent spot to try it. I grew up eating the dishes and learned how to make them. Seeing a restaurant in the US serving this was the reason I made a stop here. The servers speak Taishanese, Cantonese, Mandarin and English. The server we had was nice. When I went it was during lunch time and it wasn't too busy. The food came out pretty quick. Originally wanted to try the eel claypot rice but didn't have enough people. It's enough for 4 people. This claypot rice is definitely popular, throughout the time I was eating here lots of people were ordering it for to go. We ordered a braised pig feet and the 1/2 chicken claypot. The dishes do have the taishan flavor, but it was a bit too salty for my liking. There is no direct parking here but there is a parking lot nearby. This is located in SF Chinatown.

FOOD: - Beef Fried Noodles: Both me and my boyfriend's favorite dish! Loved the flavor and the beef was tender. There was a small portion at the bottom where the noodles weren't mixed in all the way--basically unseasoned, so that was unfortunate. We also wished there were more beef pieces since it was mainly noodle. 5/5 for taste, but 4/5 overall. - Pan Fried Pork Dumpling: My boyfriend's other favorite dish! More doughy/thick than most dumplings I've had, but still really good and crispy. 4.5/5. - Xiao Long Bao: Pretty disappointing. The bottom was near raw with the dough being very squishy. The dough was also thicker than most XLBs I've had. 0/5. - Custard Buns: The custard was decent, but not super flavorful. The bun to filling ratio was okay, but I wished it had more filling. 3/5. - Deep Fried Pork Puffs: My other favorite dish! It wasn't too oily and had a good amount of chewiness. I wish it had more filling since it was more dough than meat. 4/5. SERVICE: Most of the workers spoke Chinese, but they tried their best to communicate with us. They didn't come to our table except to take our order or drop off food, so we did have to go up to them a few times to ask for water and the check. Still, they were very sweet people! INSIDE: The restaurant was bigger than I expected since they have more tables in the back. It was decently clean too. They also have 2 gender neutral bathrooms in the back that were average in cleanliness.

There is a lack of consistency with taste quality throughout the menu but if you order the right dishes it is delicious! I highly recommend the yellow eel clay pot rice or any of the clay pot rice dishes. Also had the chicken and pork intestine soup which was very pepper flavorful and savory, though the protein itself was tender but did not have much taste. Lastly we had the taishan chicken, which is a hit or miss since parts of the chicken can be dry, though when it's fresh out of the oven it's very good. The a-choy was okay, nothing too stand out. Portions are pretty big and can definitely feed more than one person. Prices are a little on the higher end and price justification depends on the dish. There is only one waitress so it is best to patient! Service was fine and place was a little rundown but adequately clean.

I would like to start this out by saying if I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would. This is going to be a long one because of absolutely terrible service I've experienced from a restaurant before. My sister and I went there for a late dinner around 11pm tonight 5/28/24 and they close at 3am. So I want to specify it wasn't a situation where we were going in right around closing time. When we first went inside no one greeted us or if they were busy (which there was only one other table eating inside at the time) one of the many employees just stared at us for a moment then carried on with what they were doing. We say hello again which now some of the women just asks table for 2? We respond yes and my sister asked if she may use to restroom first before sitting down. The woman's attitude changed then got offended, told us no she can't use it, it's for customers only. She didn't think we actually wanted a table to sit and eat at, just use their restroom which was odd. After convincing her yes, we wanted to sit down she rudely rolled her eyes and pointed at a table to sit at. Does not bring menus and when my sister was finished in the restroom we were still without menus or anything. Employees were even just casually sitting around at random dinning room tables which were where guest would be sat if there were more people there. We were still ignored for a bit. Finally get our menus after about 10 minutes of sitting and we ordered soup which we asked to come out first as a a starter which they said yes too. Everything else comes out and of course the hot and sour soup comes out last. I never send back food but I'm not sure what we were served but it was the strangest looking and tasting soup we've had. Took one sip and set it to the side because it just wasn't hot and sour soup this was just very strange and poorly tasting. The rest of the food we ordered was okay.. soup dumpling had no juice or soup base in them just meat alone no mixed green onions or other vegetable mixed in which is what we're told how they were prepared. Ordered beef fried noodles and the noodles were just top ramen packet noodles but besides that over all taste as okay. Ordered fried dumpling which were the only thing that was kind of okay. The rudest part of everything is after finally taking our order they never returned. They didn't check in to see how the food was or if we needed anything. Completely ignored us for the rest of the time. Even when politely trying to get someone's attention to ask for more water, the server stared at me then walked away. Eventually we were just over the absolute terrible service in this now empty restaurant besides the several workers who would just either wander around or sitting at guest tables. When it's time to pay she had to ask for the check multiple times before she brings it to us and just throws it on the table then walks away. They automatically adds a tip to the which I will attach a photo of. No where on the menu or inside did it state that they add automatic tips. I understand some places do for larger parties but this was for 2 people. It even states on the check guest 2 people. I know some places add automatic tips for large groups but it was just 2 of us. Even on the check asks for even more suggested tips on top of it. Absolutely the worst service I've received to disgusting soup and the rest for mediocre food.

This is a good place to come with a large group. The larger the group the better because portions are big and it's fun to try more items! The food is not cheap for Chinese food but is pretty normal for San Francisco. The eel claypot rice has a lot of perfectly crispy rice at the bottom and is not overly flavorful, so it's a good dish to pair with other items. I recommend pairing it with a side of meat and vegetable for a nice balance of flavors. Can't wait to come again!

We can't stop coming back! We came to Taishan Cuisine for the first time after the SF Lunar New Year parade; there was a long waitlist and line out the door, so we knew it had to be good. We ordered the yellow eel clay pot rice, pea sprouts, and pork tripe with chicken soup. We've now been back 3-4 times in the last few months, bringing my mom and friends to try.. they love it as much as we do! - yellow eel clay pot rice: a speciality that we get every time. Huge portion and the crispy rice stuck to be pot is perfection - pork tripe with chicken soup: also a speciality that we're obsessed with. It's super peppery and leaves a delicious lingering spice in your throat, reminds me of bak kut teh - pea sprouts & preserved pork stir fried cauliflower: both great veggies we'd recommend.. such great "wok hay" (wok energy) that enhances the flavor - spicy beef in chili oil: tried it for the first time this past weekend. Flavor was good, but I wish the beef pieces weren't so large Service is what you'd expect from an old school Chinese place that's packed.. not attentive but you get what you need. Docked a star for cleanliness (the back room you sit in serves also as storage for diapers and other household goods, which is a bit jarring), but the food keeps bringing us back. Also open super late which is a plus if I'm ever going out (ha! prob not..)

We ordered some of their chefs choice: eel fried rice, string beans, oxtail and chicken. I thought everything tasted pretty good, however a bit on the salty side. Apparently this is the type of food served in toisan. This restaurant closes at 3am and looks like they serve some yummy finger food later in the evening after dinner. The food came out quickly and service was good.
