House of Pizza

*don’t trust the 5 star reviews!* probably the best thing about our experience was the waitress. she was so nice and friendly. she seemed to really enjoy her job. however, the rest of our experience was the opposite of positive. we order spinach dip and a cheese pizza. - for the spinach dip, it was okay. nothing special about it. there is the option of getting chips with it. i assumed that they were homemade chips but no. they were lays ruffles that you can pick up at any grocery store. odd choice but alright. the pita chips that came with it were deep fried and had a decent taste to them…just very greasy. -for the pizza, i can’t think of a time when i’ve had worse. first off, the pizza didn’t really have a “crust”. you could tell that they flattened the dough and then folded over, at the edge, to make the crust. the taste was interesting. i kept comparing it to the rectangle pizza you get at school growing up but worse. the cheese was sliding off of each piece leaving the sauce behind. i don’t think the sauce was fresh. the inside of the restaurant has seen better days. almost all of the chairs had cracks in the seats. the tables were “sticky” because they had not been properly cleaned. they needed to replace a lot of items. for a place that’s called “house of pizza”, i wasn’t expecting a whole side of the menu to be about their subs/sandwiches. the pizza section was maybe 1/4 of the menu. i hate leaving negative reviews but i had to let people know to temper their expectations.

I’ve been going there for years and realized I never posted a review. Delicious food with super friendly staff. Everyone is kind and welcoming. My favorite is the Philly chicken sub. Also you must try their greek salad with feta it’s always fresh and delicious. And last but not least their homemade ranch is amazing, I always order a few extras to take home. I highly recommend this place.

House of pizza has been in the top 3 pizza places for my family for the last 10 years. The last two times we have been it seems to have now become more like dominos than the great pizza we have come to expect. I don't know if there has been a change in ownership, ingredients or cost cutting but the flavor is gone the crust is different. What ever the cause I highly recommend to the owners to go back to what made you good. It's sad to see this pizza place drop in serious quality.

It was such a Wonderful Dining experience. I am so THANKFUL that one of Charlotte's premier classic restaurants is still up and running in supreme operation. 3rd generation. The decor is cozy and fun, the food was so piping hot and fresh, and the servers were really friendly. The House pizza and garlic cheese bread is Always so GOOD. I smiled the whole time... I highly recommend eating here!!!

Have eaten here for over 30 years. I absolutely love their hot oven Italiano sub add mustard and mayo. Their house special pizza is another favorite of mine. I've never had a bad meal here.

Best cheese steak in town. Can’t lie. Love the cheese steaks. Price is great and a good portion of food. Changing stars from 5 to 4. They no longer come with chips. Just the sub. Not sure why. Chips are only like 50cents

I don’t like pizza that much but this place has some good delicious pizza, but mainly I came here for the raviolis and the past Alfredo. The Dessert was really good, my family and I were very pleased and we enjoy it a lot. We will definitely come back again to try more. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Me, and my 2 granddaughters went to House of Pizza for lunch. We ordered a medium cheese and pepperoni pizza. We, of course, had to wait about 20 minutes for the pizza to get done. When the young lady brought the medium pizza, it only had 5 pepperoni's sticking out of the top, it was basically a cheese pizza. She told us that the pepperoni was under the cheese and that we should have asked for pepperoni on top. We checked and there was no other pepperoni except the 5 that were on top. She said she would remake the pizza and took it away, we sat there 40 minutes waiting for her to remake the pizza as she said she would only to have a different waitress come to our table and tell us that the other waitress had changed her mind and decided not to remake the pizza that she initially made wrong. It was plain to see that she had made a cheese pizza and afterward decided to stick 5 pepperoni slices on it and call it a pepperoni pizza. Needless to say, me or my family will not be back. It was a really bad experience. The worst waitress I've ever encountered. Don't offer to do something when you know you don't want to do it or aren't going to do it.

House of Pizza is an old school no frills pizza and sub joint located a little outside of plaza midwood on Central Ave. I appreciate these kinds of places so when I heard about them, I knew that one day I would have to venture over that way. Recently I had the chance to do just that when leaving the office early, so I called ahead and placed an order for pick up. As a side note they have two separate entrances, one for the main dining room where people sit and eat, and the other leads to a separate room where you pick up or place your to go orders. With their name being House of Pizza you would think it would be a no-brainer that you should order a pizza. What I was most intrigued in however was their Philly cheese steaks as I had heard good things, and a lot of times pizza joints can make excellent subs. Being that I was very hungry though, I ordered a small cheese pizza as well, since it was very reasonably priced. Now the cheesesteak was great and unfortunately I scarfed it down before I was able to grab a picture, but in the future I will definitely be ordering more subs from this place! The pizza was pretty good too, although I prefer a thinner crispier crust than what they used. Just my personal preference. When a restaurant has been around for years like they have you know they must be doing something right, and House of Pizza seems to be doing a lot of things right to attract the cult following it has over the years. I look forward to returning and hopefully on my next visit I will have more time so I can sit and enjoy my meal there.

Yet again, I have come back to House of Pizza and it still stands the test of time. Surviving through COVID along with a renovation, the food is still legit. Last time I visited, Helen was still there running things. Service was still top notch, and the ambiance for an afternoon is still that family feeling. I hope this place will stay around the neighborhood as it's a staple for the city and community.

We waited over 45 minutes for a salad and cheese dip with chips. We also ordered a lemonade and a water. We watched our server, bring out drinks to her friends and to go cups, and they sat at a dirty table, and their order was put in immediately our server about to go orders to her other table she cashed out peoples tables never been connected take our order. She only got our salad in appetizer . before we were even sat a nine top walked in behind me and my husband and they were asked first how many people they had as if we were not standing there we enjoyed our first experience, but now we will not be coming back.

I ordered a cheesesteak and ziti with a salad to go. I couldn't believe the portion of ziti that was in the container for $15. Shame on them, what a ripoff and pasta is so cheap to purchase. I won't ever get their ziti dish again. The steak was very good and a decent size. I will ONLY go there for a steak sandwich.

The food is consistently good here for decades. The cheese steak is delicious the vegetable lasagna is delicious made with different veggie (peas and carrots) the other sandwiches were said to be good. The pepperoni pizza was a huge hit too

I love it!!!! I liked the old booths and decor better.It's too bright inside now. Meat ravioli is my favorite.Dinner salad and thousand island is the best in the city.I miss the draft beer.

Went with my best friend and her husband who have been going to this place since middle school! The lasagna was really good and definitely homemade! The service is very friendly and gets your order correct immediately. This place has quaint charm and certainly looks like it's been there for a long time, but the food and service are definitely worth going!

Went to House of Pizza with a couple colleagues. The staff is always so friendly, and the food comes out piping hot. I almost always get the $10 baked ziti lunch special, but the subs are also fantastic. (I've had the meatball and the italian). Baked ziti usually also comes with ricotta. Their version is only mozzarella, but has meat sauce, for additional protein. Can't wait to go back again!

The quality of the pizza has gone way down. This is not the pizza that I fell in love with years ago. It's like they are just throwing the food together now with the same prices. I paid for extra cheese and that's not there. They used to have amazing cheesy pizza that you couldn't get anywhere else. Now it's just a greasy mess. The visit before this they have us an empty box with no pizza. We drove back 25 minutes to get the pizza and they had the same pizza they left out and it was cold and not worth the drive. I'm not happy.

My husband and I came to House of Pizza dinner tonight, and we were so pleased with our experience. The staff are very friendly, and you can tell most of the customers are regulars - always a sign of a neighborhood gem :) We each got the Charlotte FC NoDa Pilsner to drink ($4.50 per pint - you never see beer prices that good anymore!), then we shared a 16" pie - half pepperoni & mushroom, half Chicken Philly, with hot marinara sauce on the side for dipping. SO good. Very cheesy and definitely deep-dish style. We were too full to finish our pizza, let alone eat dessert, but I did get a big piece of homemade baklava to take home for tomorrow (was a tough choice between their many homemade desserts). They also had lots of pasta, sub and salad options on the menu that looked great too - we are so excited to come back again soon. If you're looking for a nostalgic, hole-in-the-wall eastside spot for classic Italian-American fare, House of Pizza will not disappoint!

Yummy Philly sub, pizza was ok not NY style. Crust was fluffy. Service was great! Ambiance is low key

Even though this is a pizza place. My family and I love a great salad. And, that's exactly what we go. The Greek Salad either grilled chicken and house dressing is so delicious. Must try it!

Love this place! Don't go often, but whenever I do it's always large portions, great service, and good food. The ambience is family friendly.

We ordered from here last night, after a recommendation for their Philly Cheesesteak. We were told the steak meat was just like how we had always eaten it as a kid. So we tried it.... as well as the chicken (because I no longer eat beef). My sister was happy with their original philly but I wasn't impressed with the chicken one. I also thought it was a bit pricey for what we got. Two large chicken phillys was around $28 and only came with a bag of ruffles and a pickle. Them not serving fries was a major let down! I will say, we had a large order with lots of specifications and the place did well with getting the order right. Overall for the chicken philly I wouldn't return, but my sister is thrilled with their steak one.

Great food at a great price and the staff is very friendly! This reminds me of how restaurants used to be.

The steak and cheese sub at HOP is my favorite! I get it with no peppers, just grilled onions, mushrooms, steak, cheese and mayo!!!

Food is very good..Service is excellent and the Ambiance is pleasant... They have been in the same spot since 1979..

This place has some incredible subs! I personally like the Italiano and Philly Cheesesteak subs! If you want a quick bite then grab it to go! Sitting usually take awhile. Hidden gem for food!

Went there for lunch the first time since 1993. Got the cheese steak all the way and toasted. It was exactly like I remembered it being...absolutely great!! The place look like it had be renovated and was clean. The young lady that took our order was really sweet and attentive. Personally, I think this is the best cheese steak in Charlotte and will be back when I get a craving. Hopefully it will be sooner than 30 years...

This is a well known classic spot in the east side! It's local and it's good! They are known for being a small time capsule when you walk in, it's like going into a small restaurant in Italy. Very old school vibes. Pizza is good. But more importantly to note is their Philly cheesesteak sandwich! It's so good, and big. Comes with mushrooms and peppers but you can get without. Side of chips and pickle, and so well priced. Also top 6 philly in Charlotte, based on a recent article. You have to try it! Very friendly staff, local spot! You can do call in and pick up. Which is all on a separate side of the restaurant with a separate door. Def have safety measures in place for covid which is reassuring.

These people are awful. They are so rude.The restaurant is dirty, and I could barely eat the food because of the environment. What I did eat was mediocre, and I couldn't stop thinking that certain things weren't kept very clean. I recommend closing this place for good.

Tried a bunch of places and this is the best Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich in Charlotte! Even when you take it to go and eat it 30 min later it tastes great.

This place was recommended to me by a friend for some good wings but I was craving pizza and ordered one. For delivery through grub hub the service was fast and my pizza was still piping hot upon arrival. I ordered the house special and boy was it good. I could only eat two slices as it's so many ingredients that's fills you up very quickly. I can't wait to try the wings next.

Food is great Service is great Constant flow of customers Plus, the takeout is very convenient

Just ordered some food today 10-15-2023 around 3:45 and the lady who is working in the front is amazing. I know the food will always be hood but the customer service is above and beyond. Keep up the Great Work

I was able to try three types of subs here: mushroom steak, roast beef, and meatball. Out of the three, the best one is the mushroom steak, and then the meatball. I wasn't a big fan of the roast beef as the meat was a too dry for me. They are very generous with the meat and cheeses, and everything is well seasoned. Some places will have a sweeter tomato sauce for the meatball sub, but this isn't the case here. I would recommend eating the meatball at the restaurant and not take it out since there is a good bit of sauce which can make the bread soggy if you don't get to eat it immediately.

This place is amazing, definitely you get more than expected. The pizza has a nice crunch and they have a wide variety.

After a day of shopping I was in the market for some good fast, not so fast food so my friend recommended House of Pizza. We headed up the side towards the take-out window where we were greeted by Reilly the happy-go-lucky young man stationed at the to-go counter. He passed us some menus but it was hard to decide because everything on the menu sounded scrumptious so we asked Reilly for a few suggestions; he raved about the pizzas, but also told us about the award winning steak sub. He bragged on how If was covered in mushrooms, onions and peppers. He made the steak sub sound so good we decided to order it. 10 minutes later is was ready and let me just say we were not disappointed! This steak sandwich was accompanied by a pickle slice and chips, and boy was it oozing with goodness; it had so much meat and provolone cheese that it spilled out of the hero bread onto the plate (I'm so glad I had a fork handy because I didn't want to waste a drop)! This famous steak sandwich is in the top two best I've ever had and FYI #1 was in Philly! House of Pizza is not just pizza, and it should be on "that" list of must try places.

This is a consistently awesome place to eat! My family has ate here all my life. Some of our consistent favorites are the cheese steak sandwiches, spaghetti, Greek salad, and of course one of the best pizzas in Charlotte!

Ordered a small "meat" pizza, tasted pretty good. The pizza could use more marinara for flavor but it was good. Also ordered hot wings, which was also good. Would def. try again.

The food is excellent. Went there for dinner last evening and it was about a 10 min wait to get seated and well worth the wait. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and once we were seated the beverages were served right away, our salad were quickly served with the entrees being on our table in a short amount of time. The food is really good and it's a big family size serving for the money. It's a kind of like a family setting, I noticed a lot of customers seemed to know each other and know the staff. Like being in a big old open kitchen having a bite to eat. The waitress really took good care of us; refilling our drinks, making sure everything was served at the right temperature. We enjoyed ourselves and looking forward to returning. I love the Italian style atmosphere and service of this restaurant. We had dessert and it was delicious - the cheese cake with the cherries on top is to die for, absolutely.

From my son: Best pizza place I've ever been to we were just on the road and then we saw this and we were like well better try it and it was just the best I ever had.

I've been eating here for over 35 years. Always consistent. Always good. Can't beat subs and pizza. The pasta dishes are excellent as well. A few "hick-ups" when ordering delivery, but I solved that by dining in (again, since Covid) and picking up my takeout and checking my order before I leave. A true CLT staple and gem. Still the same meat sauce and blue cheese dressing after all these years. God love "the sisters" at House of Pizza.

Small yet mighty. We ordered a medium meat pizza, wings and salads. The pizza was great. It was very meaty with pepperoni, ground beef, ham and my personal favorite, Italian sausage. The pie was cheesy and delicious. The wings were crispy, well sauced and tasty. The salad was basic and fresh. It's the house dressing which makes it special. Next time I will try the Philly Cheese Steak everyone raves about. Several people were eating them and they looked yummy.

Good food, great portions for a respectable price. Don't let the name fool you, their pastas are the main show!!

Great local spot with great subs and their own delicious style of pizza. Lots of vegetarian options as well. Nice to see a long-time locally-owned restaurant continue to thrive.

I am sorry I have to write this review! I ordered a large cheesesteak with extra meat & cheese. I live in Huntersville this restaurant is in Charlotte on Central Ave. It's a great distance especially in 5pm Friday traffic! I got the sandwich home, and there was absolutely no seasoning on the meat! Bland beef, it was absolutely disgusting! I tried to add seasoning to this $25 sandwich & of course it did not help. When I called to speak to the manager she was not helpful only stating she would ask the cook "what happened "? I explained I never had an issue with anything there. I have been a patron since 2001 when I moved to Charlotte. The manager also said I could bring it back tomorrow when the owner is there! The lease she could have done was offer a new sandwich. So I was so excited to come here while this used to be my favorite place to get lasagne. All summer and last year they were closed for renovations so when my mother informed me they are back open I was stoked and ready to head on over only to be a little disappointed. I always ordered the lasagne dinner which came with a house salad and garlic bread I swear none of it tasted as good as I remember before the closing and renovations. I'm not sure how I feel about house of pizza now because before I held them to such a high standard .

I've been here twice . First time for pizza and it was good. The second time Was last night after an AllStar party . The service was really slow so we were waiting a long time to order even though it wasn't super packed at first . Our waitress wasn't very attentive. She bought out two regular lasagnas instead of a veggie one that I ordered . The lasagna however was pretty good. I can do away with the garlic bread. I thought the price (11.25) was decent for your entree , a salad and garlic bread plus a dollar for cheese on my salad. I'll go back, I just don't expect great service .

This a great family owned vibe restaurant with great food. We ordered a Philly cheesesteak and a supreme pizza which had great flavor. The portions are generous and the dough was very tasty. Our server was very friendly and attentive to our every needs. I would only add that the dining room decor felt dated and no music or ambience. However everything apart I will be back since the food was awesome!

YaYa MeeMaw loves this place. They're pretty consistent. We have a house special pizza, cheese steak and onion, kid's chicken tenders, and their house made greek italian, ranch, and blue cheese dressings. Yumminess.
