Hello,
I would like to start by saying that I truly appreciate your store. For over 15 years, it has been my go-to place for tea. The prices and the quality have consistently been excellent, and I have been a frequent customer because of that.
However, I’ve recently been feeling uncomfortable during some of my visits. On one occasion near closing time, I was assisted by Alex. When I returned about a month later, he again helped me, but this time he asked for my contact information and where I live. I felt this was unnecessary and it made me uncomfortable. During my first interaction, I brushed off my instincts and assumed he was just being friendly to ensure I had a good experience, but the second encounter crossed a line for me.
More recently, I’ve been helped by Lars a few times, and my experiences have felt similar. I come into the store simply to purchase tea and occasionally chat about tea. Being addressed as “Honey” and hearing comments like “I’ve been waiting for you” or “See you next time, Honey” makes me uncomfortable. During my first interaction with him, he also gave me a 50g sample of Premium Milk Oolong, which surprised me given that 100g costs nearly $40. While I appreciate generosity, the overall tone of the interaction did not feel appropriate to me.
I’m not sure whether other customers have had similar experiences or if this reflects a new approach to customer service. However, I feel uneasy and concerned about visiting the store under these circumstances. I would like to continue shopping there and would appreciate knowing when these individuals are not working so I can feel comfortable during my visits.
Since I live close by. I typically visit Granville island biweekly or monthly to keep my tea and other produce supply fresh. In the past, customer service has consistently exceeded my expectations. Staff members such as Newton, Selah, Scott, Victoria, Meth, Gigi, Yuta, and Minu have always been professional and helpful. Even Stu, despite some hearing difficulties, provided great service.
I do feel that some of the newer staff lack tea knowledge and customer service etiquette.
For personal reasons and safety, I would prefer to remain anonymous.
Thank you for your time and supplying great tea to us at a great price.
