Pittsburgh Has a 3-day Pickle Festival—and You Can Ride a Mechanical Pickle, Eat Pickled Cannoli, and Enter a Pickle Juice Drinking Contest

"An annual, city-center pickle festival launched in 2015 to activate downtown that has grown into a major, playful celebration drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors; its tenth anniversary expanded across downtown and onto two Sister Bridges. The event leans into the city's Heinz heritage and Eastern European roots, offering tongue-in-cheek contests (pickle brine drinking, eating, bobbing), novelty attractions like a mechanical pickle ride, a large vendor and food-truck scene, and a generally goofy, high-energy vibe that attendees—many traveling from out of town—embrace." - Angela Lian Angela Lian Angela Lian was the editorial intern at Travel + Leisure. From the moment you enter the square you are bound to be transported to a different dimension and place, the architecture around is mind blowing, you just feel to just sit and soak in the serenity of this place and quietly enjoy the view

Came to visit at night time just cause, oh my it was something else! We have never seen a building let along a whole block of it. Mesmerizing and spectacular these buildings are with a little ice rink right in the middle!

Great place to relax and watch the fountain. On hot days it is very hot, in September there are a lot of Lantern Flys, in the winter they have a very large and unique ice skating rink. Only one I know of with a large Christmas tree in the middle.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the rink and picked a great night to go. Despite the 50 degree weather, it was not too crowded and we were able to maneuver around the crowds fairly well. Very quick process getting skated up and returning and the atmosphere was very festive due to the holiday decorations all around. Great venue for families. Even better before the holidays when the holiday shops are all set up in the Square.

This place is awesome for kids, adults and all ages! The surrounding buildings add such a nice backdrop, the fountains are cool and it’s a nice place to visit.

The Water Feature is the best! Getting to spend time down here with my 5 year old and seeing how much fun he has is the best! So many kids just get running through the water, squealing and giggling with delight! With all of the pools and spray parks around the county closed after Labor Day, there's really nowhere else to go with a kid when it is 80°+ out on the weekend. This is actually almost better than spray parks with overbearing, hyperactive parents that gotta hover over their kids and ruin it for the rest 😂 come visit the fountain for some fun!

A modern open space in the middle of the concrete jungle of Pittsburgh’s business central. The draw is the dancing fountain, which, for kids and the brave adult, provides a cooling respite from the Pittsburgh sun. Unless there are restrictions, tables/chairs surround the fountain.

Lovely square in downtown Pittsburgh surrounded by modern gleaming buildings that are eye candies in their own right. A great place to while away time and people-watch. We arrived by car and parked in nearby Market Square.
