Before we moved to the City, we would make the trek to the Royale for the three things they do best: food, drinks and vibes. And more specifically, the patio vibes! Dog friendly, too, which is a plus. Now that we live closer, it's definitely a go to in our rotation. We love the fish and brisket tacos, and the Subcontinental is one of our favorite drinks - they have a great cocktail and draft beer list! Plus they regularly have DJs playing music. Great place for a chill hang!

We arrived in town really late on a Saturday night and we were really excited to try the food here. We had missed on the website were it says they only serve food until 10pm, which it totally says on there, we just missed it. Heather was so welcoming that we decided to stay for a drink. She suggested the Goat Chips with Curry Dipping Sauce as a snack option available at that time of night. She also gave us a number of other recommendations in the area where we may be able to grab some food that late. She was so fantastic at mixing drinks and had such a an awesome personality, that we ended up just staying there and having several drinks and a few baskets of Chips with the fancy Curry Sauce. That sauce is magic. The next day we decided that it was such a great time the night before and the menu was so intriguing that we would go for lunch. Heather was there again showing her amazing skills at drink mixing. We ordered the Beet Reuben, Jack Fruit Tacos, and Spinach Mushroom Pakoras, along with many more drinks. Everything was amazing. The Pakoras are on the Specials menu and I really hope they move them to the regular menu as they were absolutely delightful. I giggled with joy with every bite. So we clearly had to order more of those too. The atmosphere was fun, inviting, and creatively stimulating. With the great music playing, awesome artwork on the walls by Dana Smith, delicious food and drinks, and overall awesomeness of the place, I am happy to say we have a new favorite place in St. Louis. We have also named Heather our favorite Bartender in St. Louis!

Google
Royale is best enjoyed when patio weather allows you to have the fantastic and unique cocktails under the moonlight. But it's great even when hot or with half a foot of snow on the ground too. There's just a very obvious peak Royale experience. And that experience is having dirty martinis or a Hemingway Daiquiri while eating jack fruit tacos

Visited the Royale for the debate that aired on Tuesday. This place has been on my list for a bit so it was nice to finally go! Knowing they were busy, they still did a great job getting us ordered and our food and drinks to us by a realistic / reasonable time. The hummus plate was great and my partner really liked the ceviche and gyro wrap. I sipped on the violet mango CBD seltzer which was a great way to vibe out. The interior was cute and the patio was great! I will go back to enjoy their patio, for sure.

Google
Best spot in town. Get the fish tacos and enjoy vinyls spinning while you pick grapes and sip drinks on the patio.

Google
Greatly enjoyed our dinner and drink here. The food and service were outstanding. The fire pits outside were wonderful. Nice landscaping. A few issues that could be better: parking is street parking on a side street and accessibility. While there is a ramp to the front door, there are no tables in the inside dining room that can accommodate a person in a wheelchair. Also the higher chairs and tables are a challenge to those with balance issues and those who use other mobility devices such as a cane or walker. The prices seemed about $2-$3 higher for items that are at other similar establishments. I think we will return, but we will need to plan and gauge our finances accordingly.

Google
Small neighborhood bar with glass brick windows that provide great light and a cozy feel. Warm wood interior, good drink selection, very pleasant wait staff, and a small yet ambitious menu. The back patio is great in the Spring time! I tried the jackfruit tacos -- flavorful and spicy without being too hot. And the breaded catfish taco is tops. Nice place!

Yelp
This is my second time eating here. The fish tacos here and fritters are really good. The were worth the price they are soldat.. The smash burger however though was absolutely horrible. It's was one of the worst tasting burgers that I have ever had. They may need to try making these with fresh ground beef instead of frozen patties that taste freezer burnt. The drinks here are wonderful as well. The Vodak Lemonaide was really good.

Yelp
We visited for the first time on an unusual evening; it was for a presidential debate party. The place was packed and we sat outside on the lovely patio. Despite the crowd, service was attentive and the drinks and food were great. As a health conscious person and non drinker, I was thrilled with the food and drink options (an oasis amongst St. Louis bars). The Brussels sprouts salad came out looking like a well-styled dessert and was crunchy and delish. The bill was reasonable for the quality too. We can't wait to return for a full meal!
google avatar

Yelp
Quite an array of cocktails to choose from and even daily drink and food specials. Their menu is loaded with vegan, vegetarian and gf offerings, especially on small plates. Can order gf tacos from regular menu. Sitting outside in their patio is special. All around a treat. Let's throw in accommodating service as well!!

Yelp
This was my first time to this establishment. I met a few friends after work on the patio. Absolutely love this place. Friendly staff. The patio is so welcoming with tables under a canopy of grapevines. Heaters for cooler weather. I had a couple of beers and ordered the vegan nachos. I was so happy to see so many plant-based options on the menu. The nachos were so delicious. I'm picky about vegan cheese and their homemade cashew/sunflower seed cheese made this appetizer amazing. I had to take 1/2 home it was so satisfying. Overall experience was relaxing and fun. I will definitely be back and can't wait to try more menus items and meet up friends on the patio.

Yelp
Very good dinner. Many vegan and vegetarian options on their short menu. Service was great. Bar with tables, but classy. Outside seating available, Nice landscaping. Parking is unfortunately street only on the side street. Entry is wheel chair accessible but there is no inside dining at the proper height for a wheelchair. The own mentioned that a table could be brought in from outside, however. The outside area was spectacular. Wonderful fire pits were burning when we visited.

Yelp
I had a fantastic experience at The Royale in Tower Grove, St. Louis, MO. This cozy neighborhood bar truly lives up to its reputation of serving great drinks/cocktails. How did I not know about this spot? While it may not be the largest establishment, it's the perfect spot to meet up with friends and locals. What stood out to me the most was the beautiful courtyard. In good weather, it's a delightful escape for table service, providing a pleasant atmosphere for a meal or drinks. Even during the winter, the addition of fire pits allows you to enjoy the fresh air year-round. This combination of indoor and outdoor spaces makes The Royale a versatile and welcoming place to unwind and connect with others. The drink options were impressive, and I particularly enjoyed the Manhattan. The staff was friendly and attentive, enhancing the overall dining experience. I highly recommend The Royale for anyone looking for a cozy, neighborhood bar with a charming outdoor space.

Yelp
I loved the neighborhood feel of this place, from the cozy interior to the lovely patio in the back. The service was a little slow (it took forever to get my second drink, to the point I tried canceling it and it was only then it was magically being made), but the food and drinks made up for it. The River des Peres is a dirty martini, but a delicious one at that. There are a lot of options for veg and gluten free diners. The beet reuben, which can be made vegan or vegetarian, is bomb. The jackfruit tacos were also legit. This is definitely a place I would come back to.
google avatar

Mac R. M.

Yelp
Great place for diner with vegetarian friends. Food was delicious but heavy on the vegetables. I wouldn't mind so much typically but if you have a craving for meat, this is not the best place for selection. Be prepared to be cleansed after vegie heavy meal. Ambience is nice especially with the patio (in the fall). Service was excellent. All in all, 1 for the food, 3 for the show, 5 for the service.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is always good. They have good drinks but cocktails are pricy due to the fact that they are fancy. Service is always great. The staff is nice and always willing to give recommendations. They have a really cute patio area and inside the bar is small but comfortable.
google avatar

Dejah M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, lots of outdoor seating, and it's real chill here. The BLT and chips hit the spot. Staff was very attentive to me. Outdoors is the best but there was a bee flying around and landed on my cup haha but if you don't care about bees then the outside is perfect and unique.
google avatar

Yelp
Late night hang out spot for decent cocktails with an artsy outdoor garden space to chill. I don't recommend the food but nice for a summer night hangout after hours.

Yelp
(Full disclosure: no longer live in St Lou but started this review when there -positive memories here) Ordered Arnold Palmer. Fresh made lemonade and tea. Best AP I've had. Locally sourced foods. Ordered fish tacos (catfish tacos)-Tasty! Great service and ambiance. Sat outside.

Ursa C.

Yelp
We sat on the patio. It's adorable and the atmosphere is great. They had a live DJ playing 70s music . Our server was excellent and made great recommendations. We ordered the watermelon salad and flatbread for appetizers. They were delicious. I had brisket tacos for my entrée and my partner had a BLT. They have tons of vegan/vegetarian options. The chef was behind the bar on our way out and we got to give him our compliments! Great experience overall.
google avatar

Selena S.

Yelp
The patio was a cute quiet area to sit in, the drinks were very good! Strong yet wonderful flavors. We loved all the food. The amount of food provided left us with leftovers to take home. Definitely recommend the spinach and artichoke dip. Everything was homemade and fresh. Our server was efficient and respectful.

Yelp
Visited this evening to attend the Annual Derby Party as a guest and really enjoyed this experience. Mint juleps were great, made with Four Roses, which is a great Bourbon. Ordered some side shots of Bourbon to add to the potency. Great crowd, all decked out in Kentucky Derby garb and having a great time. Live Band, Soulard Blues Band, awesome tunes the whole time. Me and my BF tried the Fish Tacos, Brisket Tacos and he had the Burger. Tacos are amazing! The Brisket ones slightly edge out the Fish only because of the juiciness and flavor in the Brisket. Both are great to have. The burger is 2 Patties and definitely alot of meatiness going one. I wish they offered fries... the chips were great, but need fries. The outside courtyard is a great space, very inviting and relaxing while offering up sophisticated vibes. Overall a great experience!

Yelp
I visited STL from California and found this on Yelp. This place is a world-class neighborhood gathering place that serves high-quality eclectic food in a welcoming atmosphere. I was grateful for the many vegan options in an otherwise meat and potatoes town. I enjoyed speaking with owner Pat Smith about the history of the restaurant and neighborhood. Any global citizen visiting STL should stop here and feel like a local for a day. If this restaurant were in San Francisco it would have 4.5 to 5 stars for its average ratings. The negative reviews I read on here were small-minded -- probably from people who have never left STL before.

Yelp
All good HERE! Got me a tasty cocktail. Ordered fish tacos and my friend ordered brisket tacos. Only two per order, but they're good sized. Ummmm, and MESSY! Anyways, we traded one, so we each got to try them both. And they were GREAT! The piece of fish was hefty, and all the extras made for a tasty and well textured taco. The brisket almost seemed more like pot roast to me? But HEY, that's not a bad thing! Same as the fish taco: tasty and well textured. Service was good. Prices were normal for now-a-days... We ate outdoors and I absolutely LOVE how they've decorated that patio up! Would definitely come back here!!!

Yelp
The Royale has been around for a while. It has a great patio and someone who works there is a good gardener as the outside has some impressive plaint on the parkway. The back patio is really nice too. I like this place for offering a lot of vegetarian options. I am not a vegetarian but like trying plant based things and The Royale does not disappoint in this area. They use Hungry Planet which is a local plant based company. We got the nachos and they were yummy. They had a plant based chorizo and I seriously could not tell the difference. Really good salads-a spring salad with strawberries, goat cheese and balsamic was outstanding. They do have meat options-fish/brisket tacos and a griddle burger. Great drinks here too!
google avatar

Yelp
I hadn't been to The Royale in at least five years. I was looking to accommodate a couple of meat eaters as well as a vegan having dinner together. After reading The Royale's menu I felt it would satisfy everyone. We arrived and chose to sit on the patio. It was lovely out there until it started pouring on us. We shared the Hummus (House made, topped w/ mint relish. Served with pita, bell peppers, cucumbers, radishes) and the Brussels Sprouts (Chopped Brussels sprouts with apples, shallots, pecans, Parmesan, and a balsamic glaze) for appetizers. They were both good particularly the Brussels sprouts. For dinner we got Veggie Chili, a Tempeh BLT, and I got the Bacon Goat Cheese Flatbread. We were all pretty happy and the service was decent. I'm sure we'll be back!

Griffin S.

Yelp
Came in on a Fri night for dinner and drinks with our dog and it was great. The patio is dog friendly and is a cozy, warm and inviting vibe. There's a large projector screen for movies and music and multiple fires to sit around while you enjoy one of their seasonal cocktails. The Kaldi's cold brew martini was incredible, made with Haya Cold Brew blend beans. They brought our dog a water bowl and treat as well and remembered her name. Great neighborhood spot, highly recommend.

Stacy C.

Yelp
We love this back patio area! Food is always good and dog friendly. They make some of the best drinks. Pricey drinks but very good variety of cocktails. Love the staff and food is always well prepared and presented. Parking is sometimes hard but I would recommend!

Yelp
I've never had "a bar," but if I had to select a place that has always felt like homebase, it would be The Royale Food & Spirits. From the moment I moved to St. Louis, it felt familiar. The classic hipster bar vibe mixed with the vast patio space for post kickball hangs, The Royale Food & Spirits has long served as one of my favorite venues to catch some casual vibes with friends. The nail in the coffin for me is the fact that The Royale Food & Spirits is as obsessed with Halloween as I am! They transformed their massive outdoor seating area into a vintage horror hangout. It really got me in the spirit of the spooky szn even though the day I went it was 90 degrees. St. Louis weather... amirite?! I have eaten pretty much every food item that has ever been put onto the menu at The Royale Food & Spirits and have yet to be disappointed. Even though I'm not vegetarian/vegan I really dig that The Royale Food & Spirits goes out of their way to present tons of options for EVERYONE. Recently we went and gnoshed on some amazing pasta salad, pork tacos and fried fish tacos. Each dish was super flavorful and the portions were more than enough to share. But the true standout has always been the vegan chili. Talk about a hefty meal. It's packed with beans and even more flavor. I loved the grape habanero homemade hot sauce they paired the chili with! It really spiced up my already incredible chili. Finally, the beer menu is always superb. A friend said that the only reason I like The Royale Food & Spirits is because they basically always have Abraxas from Perennial on draught (and that I account for 1/3 of Abraxas consumption in St. Louis.) They weren't wrong. But they always have a thoughtfully selected beer menu that is constantly rotating. There are beers that are familiar and new ones to try. I applaud their dedication to a solid craft beer tap list.

Yelp
Had a super great experience here! The staff were friendly and were willing to accommodate our group of 7 out for a birthday. We all enjoyed our food, and the drinks were great. I definitely want to come back when it's not so cold to check out the patio!
google avatar

Yelp
Fabulous cocktails & delicious food. Smaller place but worth the wait. Very pretty outdoor patio.
google avatar

Molly M.

Yelp
Went to this place for dimmer with my girlfriend while we were staying overnight in St. Louis. We loved the vibes of this place, everyone was super friendly and kind. Kind of a pub-like atmosphere with many people laughing and enjoying themselves. We forwent drinks but they had many options that looked delicious. We ordered the Brussels and the vegan nachos. The Brussels had good flavor overall, though not as crispy as I'm accustomed to. The vegan nachos were good but could have used more sauce, which we remedied by asking for additional salsa. Overall, would def come back if we're ever in town agai

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally got the chance. I ended up having the old fashioned, which was good, but not my favorite I've ever had. There was almost a slight aftertaste of what seemed like fireball, and that wasn't really what I was going after. The beet salad however was probably one of the best salads I've ever had. The taste profile was hella on point. I can't speak for the hamburger, but my friend seemed to enjoy it as he finished the whole thing. We also had the charcuterie board which was pretty solid - a good amount for two people. Inside there was plenty of seating and the booths all have tons of privacy. There was a patio area I didn't get to check out because of how hot it's been, but photos looked dope. The food service was super quick, but the drinks took a hot minute when we first arrived - I think it's because there was only one bartender at the time. Plenty of street parking on Juniata.

Yelp
I love The Royale. The decor is great, especially around Halloween. The people are great. The music is great. The food is great, and I love how late they serve it. The drinks are thoughtful and delicious. I especially love how they require vaccinations to eat indoors--it's nice to not have to stress when I go there. Thank you for being wonderful, Royale!
google avatar

Yelp
Always love this place, especially an evening on the patio. Drinks are tasty, food is good, and the events they have are super cool, inviting, fun, all that!

Yelp
Excellent food and unique cocktails. They seem to give their staff routine time off, which seems rare and I'd like to support businesses that do this.

Yelp
The Royale was such a pleasant surprise! On our way to Cincinnati from Oklahoma, we made St. Louis our pit stop and I am so thankful we did. Nestled right off the interstate, The Royale presented a cozy atmosphere with a pub dingy vibe that was perfect for an afternoon. The wooden tables and church pew type booths were the perfect break from a road trip. The brisket tacos were perfectly seasoned and the tangy sauce was amazing. The brussels sprouts were seasoned well and satisfied even our pickiest of eaters. I opted for the griddle burger and subbed the billy goat chips for sweet potato chips- absolutely wonderful!! The fresh veggies to add to the burger were so crisp and the meat was cooked absolutely perfect. Next time I'm in St. Louis, The Royale will definitely be on the list.
google avatar

Fernanda C.

Yelp
Amazing drinks! The bartender and staff are simply great! Food wise it's simple menu items. Definitely a hangout not a gorge location. Hangout spot for a wonderful time

Yale S.

Yelp
There was definitely a time when The Royale was easily a 5-star bar, but over the past few years some changes have been made that I'm personally not crazy about. The menu has changed, while good, is less than it used to be. The patio has been redesigned and feels much more cramped than before, and no longer allows smoking. The service remains good, and the drinks remain stellar. This used to be my default go-to spot, and unfortunately some of the changes have left me searching elsewhere. By no means is it a place to be avoided, though.
google avatar

Grace M.

Yelp
Three of us went here on a Sunday and it was the perfect lunch spot. I wish I took more pictures, but the inside is fun and eclectic and there's a beautifully-lit and green outdoor patio area. The service was wonderful and they have a great drink menu with fresh ingredients for their cocktails. Options for everyone - meat, seafood, vegetarian, vegan - without being boring or bland. Would love to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of my very favorite bars/restaurants in St. Louis! They have beautiful gardens, a fabulous large patio out back with fire pits and delicious food & drinks! Along with friendly staff and great service. They offer tons of Vegetarian & vegan food options as well. My two very favorite items are the (food) brisket tacos and (cocktail) pomegranate punch!

Tommy N.

Yelp
Good food, good drinks, good vibes! We love spending time in the patio where you are surrounded with art, plants and grapes growing overhead. It's such a special place!

Yelp
Best damn chili around town Can't wait to go back and try more Things on the Menu Cold brew martini was delicious and the staff were extra friendly

Yelp
Cool little spot! It's right off Kingshighway but feels tucked out of the way. Easy side street parking. Met a couple friends for evening drinks. Service was nice and friendly. Very cozy inside. It was a cold evening so no patio experience. Take a sec and walk around and look at all the different portraits on the walls. It was fun to see all the pictures you could identify. It's a very interesting place and I will definitely venture back.

James B.

Yelp
The Royale has great food, drinks and has a really nice patio with fire pits . I love coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
AMAZING little place with a great vibe! Service was incredible and the food was wonderful. We had the Hungry Planet burger (vegan) and Catfish Ceviche - both were prepared well and presentation was spot in. Side bonus - homemade chips with the burger were addictive! Highly recommend this place for any time it's open - you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Bar that is a hidden gem, with a small menu and a bunch of creative cocktails. Inside there is seating at both tables and at the bar, but they also have a ton of seating outside. The seating outside is divided into 2 sections, only one of which you can sit at if you order food. They also have a fire pit outside as well. When I came I got a 2 different drinks and they were both delicious. I also tried the mac&cheese, but it was only ok. I didn't really enjoy the apples that were included in it, and I thought it would have been better if it were just noodles. The staff were very friendly however, and I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Laur E.

Yelp
Love the vibe, the food, the service, the music playing, and of course, the cocktails. Nice place to hang in the afternoon.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
They have a wonderful outdoor space and a great drink menu. I came here with two other people and we grabbed a spot by one of the fire pit tables. My friends enjoyed their hot toddies, and I tolerated a rather weak gin and tonic. But The Royale made up for it with a pretty good Corpse Reviver #2. This is a great spot to chill, here a DJ, and have some drinks!

Yelp
My friends and I decided to meet up here on a Friday night. Since the weather was nice and both the Cardinals and Blues were playing it was pretty hopping at the Royale. We decided to wait at the bar until a patio table opened up. Only a few minutes upon sitting down at the bar, the hostess came and let us know a table was available outside so we could go out. The Royale has a cute little patio that is fenced off, decorated with hanging lights and is divided into two sections: the left is for patrons who will be eating, and the right is only for patrons who will be drinking. After giving the menu a good look, we placed our drink orders. The drinks came out not too much later. I ordered a tasty Blueberry soda, which looked like bright blue Kool-Aid but had a lovely light and crisp blueberry flavor. One of my friends ordered a gin cocktail that was amazing. Light, tart and crisp with a hint of sweetness. They also had a whole section of ginger beer cocktails, which was a nice surprise! Huge fan of ginger beer. When it came to food orders, I tried to order their newer Impossible Burger, however they said they were all out. Tarter sauce! So we all went for three different types of tacos instead: Shrimp, pork, and beef. The food took a bit longer to arrive, as expected with how busy it was. Our waitress, however, was great and kept on top of drink orders and checked in to make sure everything was well. When the food finally came out we were all ready to demolish the trays before us. While the presentation wasn't particularly fantastic, we weren't there to look at pretty food so it didn't matter much. The tacos were well-seasoned and still warm. I can't say they were the best I've had, but they hit the spot that evening. I wasn't a fan of the chips that came as a side, so I just offered those up to my friends. Their sweet potato chips you can order as a side though were amazing! Overall, I'd like to come back to explore more of the Royale's drink menu and try their Impossible Burger when it comes back in stock. Thanks, Royale!

Yelp
I had the fish tacos. Fish was cooked excellently (nice and crispy), but I wish there was a bit more depth and contrast of flavor. The salsa added a bit of depth. I also added some hot sauce to try to add some heat, but still felt it was missing a bit of complexity. It was a bit simple but very well-cooked. It is a bit more on the spendy side. I'd like to try their brisket tacos soon. They did have a nice selection of specialty cocktails and a decent food menu as well. Staff was fun and friendly!

Yelp
Overall really good experience. We had cocktails with the fruit shrub that day and I can't emphasize enough how good they were. We shared the vegan nachos and a vegan hungry planet burger, both excellent. Only odd part of the experience was when I asked to make sure the cheese and bun for the burger was vegan because my husband is one of the many who can't digest dairy very well. Looked more like a regular bun (not ciabatta as I'm familiar with it) and the cheese was so realistic. Server had no issues at all with double-checking but I guess the cook did? I felt so bad about causing a stir and then it was even more awkward when the cook came out offering to remake our food and just overall making us uncomfortable for asking. At that point we had been assured already that it was vegan and had finished eating so we weren't sure what to say other than sorry we were just making sure. I apologized to the server again and tipped well. Might not go back right away just because I'm afraid the cook will recognize us LOL but we will be back.

Yelp
The Royale is one of my favorite local city spots. They have a large selection of beer,, wine, and spirits, and my personal favorite is their cocktails. What I love most is the affordability of the drinks. In my opinion, their cocktails are nearly on par with Planter's House, but their price is $3-$4 cheaper. Their food is also good, two steps up from bar food in my opinion. My personal favorite is the spinach dip, but there are a lot of good options. The ambiance is warm and cozy, and is a mix of booths, tables, and bar seating. They also have a nice outside patio that allows dogs. If you have a big group, you want to go early to get seating, especially inside, because their aren't too many tables that accommodate large parties that want to sit together. The service is always good, and I will be back!

Yelp
We had a great experience here on a Sunday evening. For a little unassuming bar they have great offerings. Their cocktails are fun and creative (although I wish more vodka drinks). The food menu isn't large but it appears they focus on doing a bang up job on what is served. The beet salad served over green pea purée with goat cheese was awesome. We split the griddle burger and the spinach, apple and bacon flatbread. Both were fantastic. The bacon was tempeh bacon and my husband the bacon lover couldn't tell the difference. A sandwich of it might be another story. Our service was good. We sat inside but the outdoor patio is kinda nice on days when it is not 96 degrees out.
