My experience at Sumac was nothing short of exceptional. From start to finish, the hospitality and food were on another level.
I first met Donna, the manager, the day before our reservation. She graciously helped me push our reservation back to the exact time I requested without hesitation. She also shared information about their sister restaurant, ÓX, which has an incredible speakeasy-style bar you absolutely don’t want to miss. Even though Donna wasn’t working on Valentine’s Day, she made sure the manager on duty would take great care of us and she absolutely delivered.
Ottny, the manager the evening of our reservation, welcomed us with a warm smile and seated us immediately. The transition was seamless, and you could tell the team truly communicates and cares about the guest experience.
Now let’s talk about our server, Elham —phenomenal doesn’t even begin to describe her. She went above and beyond in every way, guiding us through the menu and recommending dishes that truly made Sumac stand out from any other restaurant in Reykjavik.

Fried Halloumi ( So good )
Braised Goat Hummus
Duck Cigars
Baba Ganoush
Carrots ( Different and must order!)
Grill Plate for Two as our main
Every single dish was packed with flavor, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully executed. The carrots alone are worth coming back for.
Sumac is already on the Michelin Guide, but in my opinion, it truly deserves a star .. it feels like it’s only a matter of time.
Whenever I come back to Reykjavik, this will be an absolute MUST revisit for me.
Shoutout to the entire team .. there was one more person who was so kind however I did forget her name , I hope she gets recognized as well!
