A forward-looking, independently run museum devoted to postwar and contemporary Italian art, often praised by design and culture publications. Free-ranging donkeys, a serene campus, and well-edited shows make it feel personal.

"On the route back to the city down the East Side of the Hudson, Magazzino is recommended as an idyllic stop to eat and take in Italian art and the surrounding landscape; if you go, make absolutely sure to visit Cafe Silvia to enjoy the wonderfully inspired cuisine by chef Luca Galli." - Coolstuff Team

Spectacular setting for thought provoking modern Italian Art. As we were trying to figure out where the door was, we heard the braying of donkeys. Sure enough, signage pointed us to the donkeys. However, we opted to see the art first and save the donkeys for last. There are no labels on the displayed art and instead you can look up the art in a little guide you receive upon entrance. I liked that approach as it encourages engaging with the art and forming your own thoughts first. The design of the galleries is great - the art is not crowded and there are huge windows highlighting the beautiful setting. We also looked at the galleries in the adjacent building. The grand finale was the adorable Sardinian donkeys. We visited on a Saturday at 4:00 and did not buy tickets online. It was not crowded.

We were looking for something to do on the way to the apple farm and found this place. Wow! We had an amazing time at the Magazzino Italian Art gallery. Architecture was simply stunning and minimalist design, nature surrounding made us feel like we came to Italy. The farm, donkey, backdrop of landscape with colorful trees- that’s an experience I highly recommend to anyone who appreciates nature and art. Admission is $20 per adult. We checked out the cafe but didn’t get to eat, so definitely we are making a plan to go back and eat at the cafe.

I can only describe my experience at the Café as spectacular. We sat inside & the service was wonderful.. Everything explained perfectly in case you don't understand the incredible menu by Chef Luca. Bella was incredible & gave us the best recommendations for lunch. I had the chilled tomato soup with Rock Shrimp drizzled with amazing olive oil from Italy. Then had the Crispy Risotto with wild mushrooms and creamy Parmesan sauce. 'Absolute Heaven" & a must have.. My son had the Spinach Ravioli. Of course I had one of his. This place is very unique with herbs +veggies grown on the property. The view is outstanding but the best to top off lunch was the their incredible Tiramisu I've ever had in the world. I've not been a fan of it until coming here last weekend. I absolutely recommend what we had but really everything on the menu is specifically crafted by the Chef. If I could I honestly would have had one of everything. Also the Pasta is fresh made to order so 100% yes to any pasta they have. It's that good. ❤️🤍💚 Ty Bella and everyone for making our day so lovely & memorable. I cannot wait to come back here.

The museum isn’t cheap—$20 per person—but it offers a unique experience. Contemporary art reflects the reality we live in today, and it’s surprising. It may seem too simple at first glance, but as you look closer, you start to notice the depth and meaning behind each piece. The space itself is well-designed, creating a peaceful and thought-provoking atmosphere that enhances the experience.

Google
Great museum and architecture, both the building itself and the outdoor grounds are thoughtfully designed. That said, I strongly do not recommend visiting with children under 10. We were extremely uncomfortable during our visit. The staff was constantly on us because we had kids, which created a very stressful atmosphere rather than an enjoyable one. Instead of feeling welcomed, we felt watched and judged, which completely took away from the experience. If you are going with kids, I would skip this museum and go to Dia Beacon instead.

One of our favorite go-to upstate museums. Amazing collection of Italian artists and amazing space!

From a museum professional, I have been in many top museums in the world and currently working for Glenstone Museum, this is my experience with Maggazino after this weekend visit: Extremely rude and u helpful staff, entering the place after long drive with my partner only being greeted with hostility and judgement that we were having hard time navigating the space (which is poorly layout) The institution really needs to reconsider training the staff properly because this is unprofessional on so many levels. This is an art museum not some charity facility where we have to begged people to be nice to us. With all the resources and wealth you guys got and this is how you treating your visitors? Do better.

The restaurant was indeed a gem! The food was delicious. The Staff gracious and professional. The collection educational and interesting. I was unsettled by the puny Christmas tree placed beside the colossal menorah—it felt like a clear message.

Yelp
I love this museum. It is worth visiting for the architecture alone. The beautiful light filled spaces are the perfect backdrop to any artwork that they choose to exhibit. Also right up the hill from the museum, you can visit a collection of donkeys. Don't miss this Hudson Valley gem.

Yelp
It is a nice well maintained minimalist art museum. All of the art in the museum are by Italian artists. The art itself somehow similar to Dia Beacon where it doesn't make sense until you read the explanation. To maintain the minimalist aesthetics there are no descriptions next to the art and you have to download their mobile guide. They have several galleries and if you walk around the premises you will find some cute donkeys. It is a bit random though seeing them. They have clean restroom inside the museum and outside near parking lot. We like the outside restroom where it is quiet, cool and you can sit before deciding where to go next. It is pay as you wish and fully air conditioned, a good choice to spend time and learn during one hot summer day.

Yelp
A delightful place to spend an afternoon and seem like you're super in the know, Magazzino is a tucked-away museum of modern Italian treasures tucked away on a nondescript road in the Hudson Valley. Though I probably wouldn't come up to Magazzino from NYC for a day trip on its own, it's great as part of a day's itinerary in the Hudson Valley, perhaps combined with a stop at Storm King or Dia:Beacon (you'll do a lot of driving). Currently, admission is free, and donations at the ticket desk will go to a charity; I made timed reservations ahead of time on their website and checking in was a breeze. Also, the bathrooms are extremely chic and roomy, and much of the museum seems to be wheelchair-accessible besides a few outdoor gravel areas. It was easy to find parking in their lot, and on a chillier fall day there were still plenty of people wandering the galleries. If you're into Italian modern/post-modern art, this is your jam. If not, you'll probably be kind of bored, and in that case, I'd recommend strolling the grounds outside and making your way up the path that goes up a hill to visit THE DONKEYS! There's a pack of sweet donkeys that live in a barn on the museum grounds, and they seem to enjoy a truly idyllic little commune (there's also another interesting art piece in their pen). They are extremely soft, and though the sign warns of possibly vicious behavior, I did not witness any of them attempt to kick anything!

Yelp
I drove down from the city to visit this place, It was great! I love that it isn't overwhelming like other museums in the city. The staff is friendly here.. it's so nice to walk around outside nearby the seating area. Clean and crisp air lol

Yelp
Great place to visit for some cool art exhibits. No admission fee, but donations go towards childrens hospitals in need. Going from left to right clockwise, you will see some really cool art and some weird ones, but theres something for everyone no matter what kind of tastes or style you like. The gallery is very clean and modern, yet sophisticated and chic. The place is well designed, even the bathroom looks so neat and modern (had to take a pic). There is parking if you are driving, but there is also a free shuttle bus from the train station.

Yelp
A gem of a museum in the Hudson valley. The exhibits capture a turbulent time in modern Italian history and there's a nice range of mediums from sculptures and neon installations to paintings and photographs. The surrounding nature frames the space so well and the glimpses of the trees and skies as you make your way through the museum are incredible. They have a special system for Covid times - you come at a pre-reserved time, get a temperature check, and a proximity sensor you wear which will beep if you come to close to someone else not in your party. Admission is free but donations are welcomed. There are bathrooms inside, but at the start, so you can't return to them after you pass. However, there are also bathrooms outside available for access.

Yelp
A marvelous place. Between a gallery and a museum. A petting zoo and a zen garden... a must go to !!!

Yelp
Magazzino is one of the truest gems of the Hudson Valley. I didn't know what I was walking into, and ended up spending the day learning from the marvelous, knowledgeable staff. Each gallery contained such interesting works that I feel so privileged to have seen. Not only are the pieces an honor to behold, but the architecture of Magazzino is astonishing. My visit was made complete by a lovely walk along the grounds and a visit to the Sardinian donkeys on site! I plan to visit regularly. Thank you, Magazzino Italian Art!
