Me and my girlfriend stayed at Royal Sonesta Chicago River North over the Christmas time. It was not up to what a 4 star hotel would be, it is more like a 2 and a half star hotel. The hot water and heat was very inconsistent. The phone connect to guest service never worked. I have to keep going down to ask for slippers and other amenities. Which they delivered very quickly.
The hot water and heat, it is not what a 4 star hotel would be. I would have one minute of hot water and suddenly went to cold water again. The heat was very inconsistent, we have set it to 26 degree celcius and the room felt like a sauna, and once we put it back down to 22 which would be normal temperature, the room would became ice cold. There's one night, the thermometer decides to drop the temperature to 18 degree celcius and I got sick right after that night.
Spoke to the concierge about the problems, the phone was never fixed, kept saying they will send technicians but doesn't seem like anyone was there to fix the phone, not sure what the communication issue is between there. About the heat and hot water, they have addressed it's a an ongoing issue.... but does it mean I have to tank it while i paid to stay there?
On Boxing Day, me and my girlfriend finished lunch and returned to hotel to pick up my Apple Watch and a couple things before we head to do some Boxing Day shopping. The housekeeping lady was cleaning the room, and we were just packing a couple things, and took a quick rest. Told us, we can not be in the room why she is cleaning the room... it's the first time I ever heard of that, and told us to come back in 5 to 10 mins... not sure why... is it because she is charging her phone at the bathroom?
Overall, the front desk staff were very friendly and the other 2 house keeping lady was very friendly and helpful. The location is very convenient, but the hotel itself... it's very disappointing. If it wasn't for the staffs, I would have gave it a one star.
P.S the hot tub that we had in the room kept flowing mould out when we fill up the tub, which was very disturbing.
