Hipopótamo

We had been recommended this place as a retro bar/restaurant and are glad we went. After walking through La Boca we headed this direction, it has a nice park just opposite it. We were only having drinks but the fernet con colas were great and we loved the decor in the place. The waiter was lovely and brought peanuts to enjoy with our drinks. A true gem of a place.

We loved the decor and memorabilia. The place is very classy and cosy. A very cool vibe. When we arrived, no one greeted us and we had to wait a couple of minutes, then we were asked to change tables, and it was all quite confusing. It also took long to get a menu, and we decided only to have drinks, as we understood that it would take very long to get any hot food. Unfortunately, only 2 draft beers, and it took about 10 minutes to get served. Overall, the experience was a bit frustrating. The house vermut is amazing.

The best food /cost relation we had in 3 weeks in argentina. Awesome meet , cider and Vermouth from barrel. And easy , no flashy amazingly good experience

It's a nice little spot and definitely locking down those historic vibes. You get a feel of walking into the remnants of the past in this place. Old advertisements adorn the walls, old school setup which feels unchanged in generations. The food is a bit ordinary though. Ordered a couple of things, classic Argentine dishes were thought they would nail in an old school venue. But, unfortunately not. All a bit 'meh', to be honest. Yes, the menus are in Spanish but that adds to the vibe. Still, service is attentive and the buzz is a lovely feel. Worth a visit if only for nostalgia's sake 👍

AMAZING!! This was one of the best foods we had during our trip in Argentina! Food is amazing and not pretty touristic, so is better 😄

Traditional cafe, with a huge menu in Spanish (only) I know what cheese and ham is in Spanish, so that was exactly what I got. The place is charming, dated from 1909. But for me, it's a "one-timer"

Brazil and Defense, little corner of the mythical Buenos Aires, where 116 years of history with flavors concur. A milanga with fries, what still, after hours, I taste. In short, unforgettable and, by the way, repeatable culinary experience.

A nice place to have lunch. It had a traditional feel inside and the food was lovely.

Love this place for its coffee and quintessential interior design--old world charm with a splash of Argentine commercial hipness.
