Valentine’s Day Dinner Review – Extremely Disappointing Experience
My partner and I were excited to try Sycamore Inn for the first time on Valentine’s Day, hoping for a special and memorable evening. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below expectations, especially given the restaurant’s reputation and pricing.
When we arrived, we were greeted politely and seated immediately, which we appreciated. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with dim lighting and an elegant atmosphere that initially gave us high hopes for the evening.
However, the service quickly began to decline. We sat for approximately 10 minutes before anyone offered us drinks. The staff appeared overwhelmed and disorganized. We were informed that there was only a pre-selected Valentine’s Day menu, which offered very limited options. While I understand special menus are common on holidays, the lack of variety was disappointing.
When the waiter asked if we wanted an appetizer, I politely declined. His response was a blunt “OK,” delivered in a rude tone, before abruptly walking away. This interaction immediately made us feel unwelcome.
We were served water that had an unpleasant taste, similar to unfiltered tap water, which was surprising for a restaurant of this caliber.
We ordered the New York steak, priced at $65 per person, and requested it cooked medium. When the food arrived, the presentation was unappealing, and the steaks were extremely dry and overcooked. For that price point, we expected a high-quality cut of meat prepared properly, but the steak was disappointing both in appearance and taste.
We also ordered a salad, which unfortunately was equally unpleasant and lacked freshness.
What made matters worse was the behavior of the staff. When our food was delivered, the individual assisting the waiter tossed the butter container across the table instead of placing it properly. We were shocked by the lack of professionalism and care. It felt disrespectful and careless, especially during what was supposed to be a special occasion.
Overall, the food quality was poor, the service was unprofessional, and the experience did not justify the extremely high price. Valentine’s Day is meant to be a memorable and enjoyable evening, but instead, it was frustrating and disappointing.
Sadly, based on this experience, I will not be returning to Sycamore Inn, nor would I recommend it to others expecting quality food and professional service.
