"Why we love it: A beacon of luxury in Beijing’s famous Wangfujing shopping district The Highlights: - Spacious suites with private movie theaters - Cutting-edge technology and design - Activities like the contemporary art tour at Peninsula Academy The Review: Situated in the heart of the Wangfujing shopping district, The Peninsula opened in 1989 as Beijing’s first luxury hotel. After an extensive modernization in 2017, the property now features 230 lavishly appointed guest rooms, including nearly 20 Beijing Suites that top out at 1,776 square feet and include private movie theaters with 80-inch screens and surround sound. Also included with every stay are high-end perks like tablet technology, deluxe marble bathrooms with walk-in showers, and bedside panels with lighting and temperature controls. Guests even have the chance to learn more about Beijing culture at the Peninsula Academy, which offers activities like tours of the Great Wall, rickshaw rides through Hutong, dumpling-making classes, and more. When hunger strikes, take your pick of four dining and drinking outlets, including Huang Ting, a modern Cantonese restaurant with dim sum favorites like barbecued pork buns, sticky rice chicken, and braised congee with scallops. While there, keep an eye out for decor incorporating the phoenix—a sign of good fortune in China for more than 8,000 years that features prominently in the hotel’s design (there’s even a hand-carved version adorning the lobby’s onyx Spirit Wall). Come time to relax, head to the tranquil Peninsula Spa for a Chinese-, Ayurvedic-, or European-inspired treatment; work up a sweat in the state-of-the-art fitness center; or take a dip in the indoor swimming pool, which is heated to 64 degrees year round for optimal comfort."

The Peninsula Beijing

"Give us an establishing shot of the hotel, and let us know why it caught your attention. It would be too easy to say this hotel—fresh off a $123 million refurbishment—has been restored to its former glory. Instead, it's readied itself for the next generation of loyal fans. You'll still be wowed by the traditional Chinese facade, and the Rolls Royces that deliver the hotel's tony guests to their plush accommodations. You'll also love the investment it's made in technology to smooth out and enhance each guest's stay, eschewing traditional check-in desks for staffers with tablets who can do it all, from getting you into your room to booking spa appointments and restaurant reservations. Imagine that other travelers at the hotel are part of a tribe. Who else do you see here?Peninsula attracts a moneyed clientele; this location, especially on the heels of its facelift, has its fair share of jet-setting millennials. Almost every nook in the place is made for Instagram, from the iconic exterior to the clean, white lobby with grand columns, to the pool and the art collection selected with Michael Suh, executive director at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Beijing. The stylish guests who breeze through here are taking selfies un-self-consciously, and you'll be joining them. Tell us all about your room.In its renovation, the hotel cut its number of guest rooms from 525 to 230; now, all of them are suites. They're also the biggest in Beijing. Decor was inspired by luxury private yachts, so expect lots of light and airiness, furniture that kind of blends into the mix, and muted gray tones with aquamarine accents. Chinese motifs and artwork keep it rooted in its location. Beds are oversized and cloud-like, with comforters and pillows that look impossibly puffy and guarantee you sleep uninterrupted. Now for the small stuff. What are the in-room amenities you'd tell your friends about? If you're staying at here, you know that amenities come with the program. But the amenities tend to delight in softer ways—and that's a compliment. It's a grand hotel, but not over-the-top. Rooms are customizable: there are bedside and desk tablets that can be preset in 11 languages to control all room functions, as well as access room service menus. Bathrooms have large soaking tubs and rain showers; Wi-Fi is complimentary, and rooms have printer-scanners and a portable VoIP phone that offers free international calls. The hotel is anticipating its guests' needs and providing them before you even have to ask. What about room service? Why not get room service? There's plenty of space to enjoy it! It's accessed electronically, available 24 hours, and features Cantonese, Italian, Continental, Asian, and vegetarian options. A children's menu is also available. If you had to award a trophy to a member of the staff, who would be the winner, and why?Don't make me choose just one. The entire staff is a delight. What else is special about this hotel?First, the location. It's on Goldfish Lane (Jinyu Hutong) in Beijing's historic Wangfujing district, minutes away from the likes of Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, and the National Theatre. The spa is also famous for a reason. Choose from Chinese, Ayurvedic, or European therapies, and don't skip the thermal bathing facilities, or a snack in the Oriental Tea Lounge. Finally, the hotel's programming worth noting: The Peninsula Academy offers custom experiences such as helicopter tours of the Great Wall, rickshaw Hutong tours, tea ceremonies, martial arts, and more. Bottom line: Why or why wasn't this hotel worth the money, time, and effort it would take an average person to book it?People pay top dollar to stay at the Peninsula Beijing, but they know it's not a gamble. It's a cosseting experience from start to finish, and a fine way to ensure your entire trip is seamless." - Corina Quinn

The Peninsula Beijing (Beijing, China) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The Peninsula Beijing is more or less exactly what one expects from a Peninsula hotel in the Far East. This should not be taken to mean that a stay is a predictable experience, in the way that the average chain hotel experience is canned and uninspiring; rather that a visitor here may rightly expect to encounter the extremely high standard of service for which the Peninsula hotels have become known. A foolish consistency may be, as Emerson said, the hobgoblin of little minds; but the brand of consistency practiced by the Peninsula is anything but foolish." - Tablet Hotels

Peninsula Beijing | Best places to stay in Beijing

"Upgraded to an all-suite hotel in 2016, the long-established Peninsula offers a near-perfect blend of upscale comfort and centrality. All that space, superior service and amenities don’t come cheap, but if the price is within your range this is one of Beijing’s safest hotel bets. The prime Wangfujing location, close to the major central sights, is perfect if you’re coming for sightseeing. Among the hotel’s standout features are a rooftop bar (summer only) and Huang Ting Cantonese restaurant, designed to replicate an ancient Beijing courtyard home. " - Thomas O’Malley

Initially I gave the hotel 4 stars. They changed the level of service at the restaurant so I’m changing the review to 5 stars. Excellent. First, it’s been a very long time since I stayed at a Peninsula hotel. I have such fond memories of the Peninsula Hong Kong so when I was booking a 4 night stay and saw that there was a Peninsula hotel in the tourist areas of Beijing, I booked it. The stay started off great as I arranged for airport pickup. The service at the airport and reception at the hotel was excellent! The rooms are extremely comfortable and very well maintained.

As all Península Hotels, the location is a must. Our stay was comfortable with a spacious room with all amenities. A nice resting area and spacious bathroom. The buffet for breakfast very complete with delicious international and local dishes but the service slow and impersonal. We tried to use the SPA services and they open until 10am very limited if you have tours planned or other early activities. This hotel has a nice shopping and gastronomy offer inside the venue. The rooftop bar has a nice view at night. I recommend it for a nice and calm stay un Beijing.

From the very first moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. We were welcomed with such warmth and tact — no waiting — and that set the tone for an absolutely perfect stay.||We stayed in a suite that exceeded every expectation: spacious, beautifully lit, and elegantly designed — modern yet comfortable. The bedroom and living room were both filled with natural light. We had a large closet, a dressing area with endless high-quality amenities, and everything was spotlessly clean. The linens, towels, bathrobes — everything was impeccable and plentiful.||On our first day, we had lunch at the lobby bar, where we tried a delicious club sandwich with french fries and a salad served with a wonderful basket of freshly baked breads. Everything was excellent, and the service was attentive and kind.||Breakfast was absolutely superb — varied, generous, and beautifully presented. On one of the mornings we had to leave very early, and the team prepared a breakfast box so we could take part of our meal with us for our excursion — such a thoughtful touch.||The concierge team went above and beyond throughout our stay. Since we didn’t have WeChat, they kindly helped us make restaurant reservations, book activities, and even suggested beautiful walking routes through the city. They also arranged a private tour to the Great Wall, with an amazing guide named Jenny, who spoke excellent English.|During that tour we visited a jade factory (we didn’t buy anything, but it was interesting to learn about the different grades and meanings), enjoyed the Great Wall under perfect weather, and later stopped for a traditional tea ceremony, where we bought several teas — a wonderful cultural experience (just make sure to bargain a little, as prices can be inflated).||The building itself is stunning — elegant, spotless, and surrounded by luxury boutiques and jewelry stores. In the evenings, live music filled the lobby — trumpet and piano creating a charming atmosphere. The summer lounge terrace upstairs is beautiful too: relaxing music, soft lighting, lovely views — a perfect spot to unwind after a day in Beijing.||I would like to make special mention of Mr. Leo Guan, Assistant Front Office Manager, who was exceptionally attentive throughout our stay and kindly offered us a thoughtful farewell gift upon our departure.||In summary, everything — the service, the comfort, the food, the attention to detail — was simply exceptional. The value for money is unbeatable, and we will definitely return.|The Peninsula Beijing truly made our stay unforgettable.

We stayed in the Grand Premiere Suite and had an amazing experience from the moment we landed. A hotel representative met us right as we got off the plane and personally guided us through the airport—such a smooth and stress-free arrival. Even check-in was a breeze; we were taken straight to our room without stopping at the front desk.|The hotel itself is gorgeous—modern, clean, and beautifully maintained. The spa was fantastic too. They offer Biologique Recherche and Margy’s Monte Carlo products, which was a nice surprise and perfect for stocking up while I was in China.|But what really made this stay unforgettable was the customer service.|I especially want to thank the concierge who was working on July 17, 2025. A few hours after arriving, we realized my child had left his beloved bunny on the plane to Beijing. For anyone who's been there—you know it’s not just a toy, it’s the toy. The kind you can't just replace or buy new. |I asked the concierge if there was any chance, they could help, and they jumped right in. Within an hour, they called to say the bunny had been found and a driver was already on the way to pick it up. A couple of hours later, my child had his bunny back. And just like that – everything felt peaceful again. |In all the emotion, I didn’t even get the concierge’s name, but I hope he sees this message. Your kindness meant the world to us. Thank you so much.|I hope the hotel management sees this review and recognizes this outstanding service.|Overall, the service here goes way beyond expectations. We felt truly cared for—and that makes all the difference. Can’t recommend this place enough!

We booked the biggest and most expensive room at the Peninsula hotel- The Beijing suite. ||It was a lovely room overall and lots of space. ||However, on the first night my daughter was too scared to sleep in the spare room so I had to sleep on the sofa bed in the spare room. Its not a real bed and folds out. The mattress was in a V shape and I could feel the metal under the mattress. ||I think its unacceptable for a hotel of this quality to have a fold out sofa bed in the most expensive room of this 5 star hotel. ||Breakfast was outstanding. Concierge was outstanding. But I think management need to take a look at removing that cheap sofa bed and putting a real bed in that spare room.

A Luxurious Stay with Exceptional Service at The Peninsula BeijingMy recent stay at The Peninsula Beijing was an absolute delight, marked by the kind of top-tier service and amenities you expect from a world-class hotel. From the moment I arrived, the staff's professionalism and attention to detail were evident, making for a truly welcoming experience. The breakfast was a particular highlight. It was not only delicious but also offered a wide variety of high-quality options, a perfect way to start each day. The hotel also offers excellent amenities that added to the luxurious feel of the stay. I was also very grateful for the thoughtful upgrade to a higher category room. While I truly appreciate the generosity of the upgrade, my specific room, a two-story suite, presented a minor inconvenience. Having to go up and down the stairs was a slight hassle, and I personally would have preferred the convenience of a single-floor room. This is a small personal preference, and in no way diminishes the wonderful experience provided by the hotel and its dedicated staff.Overall, I highly recommend The Peninsula Beijing for its exceptional service, outstanding breakfast, and luxurious amenities. It’s a hotel that truly understands hospitality, and I would not hesitate to stay there again.

His kindness and dedication made a real difference.Overall, a very comfortable and welcoming hotel that I would highly recommend. I will definitely return on my next trip.

Amazing experience. Amazing hotel and facilities but what really stands out are the staff. All are great but need to name check a few for going above and beyond in keeping us so happy. Firstly Leo- assistant manager, front office- spent a long time one evening finding a piece of art that the hotel had used in a photo shoot that day that my husband fell in love with and I wanted to purchase it for him for his birthday. Not only did Leo get agreement from the Peninsula to sell the piece but he had to find it as it had been packed away in storage but he found it. What a superstar! The concierge desk is outstanding, Kurt was great and the King of concierge’s is Mr Ferguson. Great restaurant recommendations and then organised for us to borrow some bikes from the hotel. This seems to be a new offer from the Peninsula as the bikes needed all sorts of nuts and bolts tightening up to make them suitable for us. All of which Fergus and his team took in their stride and achieved with no fuss but plenty of use of spanners! What a great service and we had a great bike ride with so many admiring looks at the bikes. Do use this facility. Absolutely outstanding stay. Thank you good people of the Peninsula Beijing.
