I was really looking forward to ordering a Fujifilm GFX 100S II from Downtown Camera and paying extra for overnight shipping. I placed the order through PayPal early in the afternoon and paid the separate invoice they sent for the shipping surcharge immediately. After that, nothing happened.
The payment sat as “authorization in progress” for almost a full day. There was no email, no phone call and no explanation from their side. I eventually had to text and email them myself just to find out whether my order even existed, which is not what you expect when you have just spent over seven thousand dollars and paid for overnight service.
Only after I followed up did I get a reply saying their internal security system had flagged and denied the transaction, and that they would void both the camera payment and the shipping invoice. They apologised and said the denial only appeared in their portal around noon, but from the customer side it felt like the order was simply ignored until I chased them.
I completely understand the need for fraud protection. What I do not understand is taking payment for an order with expedited shipping, having it sit in limbo, and leaving it to the customer to discover that it has been effectively cancelled. Better communication and faster follow up would have gone a long way here.
Based on this experience I will be taking my business elsewhere.
