New Kosher Special is one of those places that just hits the spot when you’re hungry and you need something kosher, fresh, and geshmak — without making a whole production out of it.
First of all, it’s takeout-focused, which is honestly perfect. You walk in, you order, you grab, you go — no shtick, no fuss. It’s the kind of place you stop by when you’re “just getting something quick”… and then somehow you leave with a bag that could feed a small yeshiva. (Don’t ask me how it happens, it just does.)
The food is solid and consistent. Everything tastes fresh, the portions are generous, and it’s the type of menu where you can find something for everyone — whether you’re in the mood for chicken, beef, Chinese-style, or classic takeout comfort food. Their General Tso chicken is a real fan favorite for a reason: crispy, flavorful, and actually has that good balance of sweet/spicy without being drowning in sauce. You take one bite and suddenly you’re like, “Nu… I should’ve ordered two.”
Service is also good — they move pretty efficiently, and even when they’re busy, they keep things rolling. The staff is helpful, normal, and you feel like they know what they’re doing. Plus, they pack everything well, so you’re not dealing with “soup in the bag” tragedies on the ride home (Baruch Hashem).
Prices are reasonable for kosher takeout, and you feel like you’re getting good value — especially considering the portion sizes and how filling it is. This is a great stop if you’re in Elizabeth, passing through, or need something quick for dinner that feels like a treat.
Bottom line: New Kosher Special is a reliable, tasty, heimish takeout spot that does the job and does it well. Highly recommended — just come hungry, because willpower doesn’t stand a chance here.
