I visited the Wieliczka Salt Mine today with my husband and while the mine itself is breathtaking and our official tour guide was professional, polite, smiley and full of humor, the experience ended on a very sour note due to an unacceptable incident during our exit.
After our tour ended, we were guided toward the exit routes. We were walking as individuals, following the path towards the elevator. At one point, we stopped for a few seconds to take a couple of photos of an impressive hole and a statue. Within moments, another group (a school group) approached us. One of the mine's tour guide, accompanied by a Polish-Greek speaking lady, started shouting at us aggressively, demanding to know where our group was and accusing us of being out of place.
We were shocked by their behavior. Instead of helping us or politely directing us, they were essentially bullying and insulting us—even speaking disparagingly in Polish. It was deeply upsetting to be treated this way by "professionals" in front of students, simply because we took a moment for a photo.
We were forced to follow this specific group to the elevator while they continued to make us feel unwelcome and policed our every move.
It is a shame that such a world-class attraction lacks clear signage or a more organized, respectful way to manage individual visitors heading to the exit. I sincerely hope the management looks into the behavior of these specific guides. The incident happened on 09/03/26 at 18:06. No visitor should ever be shouted at or insulted for a minor misunderstanding in navigation.
5 stars are my sincere review for the mine and the wonderful tour we had.
