Butchers of Distinction

Ive been going to this butcher for 6 plus years, after my last visit it may be my last unfortunately. They have alot of positives but it’s over shadowed by the awful attitude most of the staff have. Their boneless/skinless chicken breast is great. But as of recently, I’ve noticed the chicken is poorly cut with lots of cartilage on the meat and for the price, that shouldnt happen. The only staff that is super helpful is Randall. He is great, polite and knows about the meats. Give that guy a raise. The attitude by the other butchers(besides Randall), has been awful, they always seem upset or unwilling to answer questions and it comes with attitude when you ask simple things like is the meat grass fed or grain. I’m not asking to be best friends but the people working there should have at the very least a friendly attitude. I have to single out Ben, I see him everytime I am there and no matter how long the lines are he is unwilling to help out or answer questions about the meats. The last time I was in I asked if they had any chicken bones that were in the price range of $5-9 as they only had $20 and up in the freezer. The kid serving me, said that was all they had. When asking Ben he just said whatever he said is what we have but then upon realizing I was asking about bones he was like oh yeah we’ve got some that I can give you.

Brilliant butchers, great product. However, their Irish breakfast sausage is unfortunately not what you're hoping for. Its too high quality and it has no rusk. You are better off getting the frozen stuff if you're looking for authentic flavour. Id love them to rise to the challenge to lovingly recreate the Supequinn OGs with a butchers twist.

Best butcher in the city! Love the variety of local farms that they get their meat from. They also stock some amazing local vegetables, eggs and cheese. The staff here always greet you with a smile and are willing to go above and beyond. Highly recommend.

The store is very nice! They have a lot of products and they look fresh and good. The price is affordable from time to time. I bought a beef tenderloin for Christmas and it was amazing! So tender and smooth!

Fantastic butcher's, great quality produce, order online for easy pick up. Pay online and any difference in price while packing is refunded. Irish black pudding and breakfast sausage are very good. Updated; stopped by again and the black pudding and sausages are still fantastic. Great to get a taste of Ireland. Please make some white pudding

I am done with this butcher. I've been going to this butcher for 4 years and they've gotten worse and worse. The service is lousy, they are consistently out of product and the attitude is ridiculous. I have only continued to go because they are the only butcher my neighborhood, but I'd rather plan in advance and order meat elsewhere. Here are a few examples of what I have experienced -Consistently overcharged. They weight meat at a price higher than the listed price. This has happened to me and my partner multiple times. Check your bill if you shop here Attitude -The attitude is ridiculous. When I correctly showed them they overcharged, they had no idea what to do. I had to offer solutions like maybe a refund or a free bulb of garlic - I asked for 1 pound of chicken thighs to have the skin removed, and the older man huffed and puffed and said "fine I guess". I asked if there was a problem and he said "well you came in 5 minutes before closing. We packed up". I acknowledge I came in 5 minutes before closing, but if you can't do it, just be polite and say "I apologize but we only can offer services up to 6:30pm." Or, "I am happy to do it, but if you would like services next time, please time to come in a bit earlier." There is a way to communicate to customers. General incompetence - I asked for a whole chicken to be cut into its individual piece, for it to de-skined, and for the larger pieces, like the breast, to be cut into thirds for a curry and for the thigh and drum to be separated. I asked this well in advance of closing. When I tell you the commotion this caused. "This is a lot of work" "This is too difficult" "This is not possible". I don't understand what was so difficult about my request. You're supposed to be a full service butcher. They finally did it though, but not without a heavy dose of attitude on top of the incompetence. If you're going to be a premium butcher, then provide a premium service. Personally after years of buying meat here, I'm done. I'd rather go vegetarian than deal with then again

Looks like a pretty good selection and the prices are decent. Too bad they did not have any cowboy steaks when I last visited.

The steaks and chorizo I got from here were really delicious. The sausage was flavourful and the steaks were perfect, tender but with a bite. I tried to ask for some info/ recommendations about different cuts but wasn't given much help. Might go back to try their other meats.

The boutique hotel of butcher shops. A wonderful addition to the neighbouhood. Beautifully designed. Expertly curated. Friendly, knowledgable staff that help you find the proper creature to fill your blood lust. Experts in both the butchery and the kitchen. Always ready with culinary suggestions ranging from the simple to the spectacular. People who truly love what they do. Complete transparency. A window to the back of the shop. A sanitized glimpse into the circle of life which you probably want to know as little as possible about. Remember, you are what you eat.

Absolutely awful. I don't normally do this, but the meat was so bad that I felt compelled to write a review. For the money they charge, you'd expect the best steak you've ever had, but not only were the steaks no good, they were bad. The striploin was either aged too long, or had begun to turn. Very dry, tough and the fat tasted gamey. In fairness, I have purchased from them three times, and the fist time was excellent. However the last two times major disappointment.

Really good. Not as expensive as you think it's going to be. I find their fancy sign and lighting almost intimidating but the folks are nice and the product is good. I wish they carried a few more non-meat items. Like some burger buns, etc...

My go to butcher in Leslieville. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Quality of meat is excellent and I feel good about supporting our local farmers along with consuming meat and produce that is antibiotic, hormone and pesticide free. The most amazing selection of sausages. The best I have tasted and not too salty like most sausages. The prices are reasonable and competitive.

This is literally the first review I've ever written in my life, but I had such a great experience at Butchers of Distinction I needed the world to know. The service was friendly and lovely. The food was absolutely beyond incredible. We were lucky enough to pop in when the Saturday lunch special was rosemary and fennel crusted pork belly with goat's cheese polenta, and I swear my mouth has never been happier. It was outrageously good. We literally kept giggling after every bite. And for $9.95! Are you kidding? Heaven. We also picked up a chicken, bacon and mushroom pie along with their beef bourguignon pie and both were totally scrumptious. So happy to have discovered such a gem in the neighbourhood.

The staff here are always very pleasant and knowledgeable. I love their lamb merguez sausages and their ground poultry. The duck fat is also fresh and reasonably priced. The meat is high quality, tender, and delicious. It has very little fat leftover after cooking.

Best pot roast, hamburger and now bacon I've ever had. I used to think beef was beef, but believe me when I say, the right butcher can take your favourite dish and make it better. The staff are friendly, patient and knowledgeable. Don't be shy - if you're a novice, they'll put you at ease. Fair warning - once you've tried BoD, it's hard to go back. The quality is worth the extra you'll pay.

A farmer-to-customer operation, with an excellent selection of superb quality meats, prepared food, and take-home meals in a self-serve freezer. No deli meats here, as everything they serve is made on the premises, including a good selection of sausages, my favourite being the all-beef chorizo. The staff are awesome, friendly, knowledgable, and accomodating. The decor is warm and inviting and the place is spotless. This is my butcher in the hood.

Finally - a real butcher shop in the 'hood. Unlike the Meat Dept, Rowe Farms, and other meat retailers who claim to be butcher shops, the Butchers of Distinction actually butcher animals on site. The quality and variety of meat is exceptional -- by far some of the best beef (standing rib and steaks) I have bought in recent years. And unlike some of the other "higher" end meat stores in Toronto, the meat here is almost all naturally raised or organic, bought fresh from local farmers. The quality shows in the taste and texture of the meat. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and because they cut onsite, they are a great option for custom orders. Also, some great prepared food options when you want to round out your meal or shorten your dinner party to do list ;)

This is a beautiful shop. Bought some bacon from here the other day and it is delish!!! The prices are a bit high, but not out of line for the quality. In a neighbourhood in flux,I hope this shop can ride the turmoil and stays put!

A fantastic neighbourhood butcher shop, focused on the meat. They do have some secondary products, some frozen pies and soups, a few ready-to-cook kabobs and salads. But the main event is the meat, and this is where they really shine. All of their stuff that we've tried -- pork chops and shoulders, beef ribeyes and striploins, prime rib, duck breast, bacon, whole chickens, lamb chops, burgers -- has been top notch. The staff are very friendly, and knowledgeable about the product of course, but also its origins: they can tell you all about their farm partners. They're also quick to offer cooking guidelines or recipe ideas if you need it. The prices will probably feel a bit high if you're used to shopping for meat at a supermarket, but that's just what good meat costs. It's well worth the premium. BoD very quickly became a staple for us. They're a great addition to the area.

I don't eat a lot of meat but when I do, i like to know where it comes from, who butchered it and how it was raised and fed. This store nails it. Unlike others in the hood, this one really delivers on quality and service. Sometimes I just stop in to look, this place is so impressive and a very welcomed addition to the area.

I love these guys and won't buy my meat from anywhere else. The prices are a bit higher, but it is so worth it. You're getting fresh meat from local Ontario farms. I never knew how much better meat tasted just by being fresh (never frozen, not old). Everyone (and I mean everyone) raves about our cooking when we buy from BOD. The staff are so friendly and provide great cooking suggestions. They are also happy to take special orders. A rave review from me. I'm okay letting the secret out -- I want this business to thrive and stay in the neighbourhood. Thanks BOD!

Awesome neighbourhood butcher. The store looks clean and modern, and the staff are all friendly. The meat is pricier than others but it is really good quality.

Excellent butcher shop! Top quality meats. Ask for extra thick double smoked bacon!
